Illegal and unethical behaviors of the construction industry affect people's lives and health more than the same problems of the other industries. Among these behaviors, the construction industry is mostly criticized for bribery scandals. According to the survey of the Ministry of Justice in Taiwan over the past years, bribery cases involving public engineering projects and governmental procurements account for a rather large portion of the indicted corruption cases. Transparency International's "Bribe Payer Index" indicates people in construction-related industries are the most likely to pay bribes. Poor construction quality directly and indirectly caused by bribery poses a great threat to public safety, organizational reputation and economic development. However, there is a limited number of existing research on the bribery problem of the construction industry. This study is an empirical attempt to explore bribery intention and its affecting factors among the construction organizations in Taiwan by conducting a questionnaire survey. The theory of planned behavior was used in this study to build its research model (covering elements of attitude, subjective norm, perceived behavior control, and intention). Totally 431 valid samples were returned. To explore the factors affecting bribery intention, this study adopted Pearson's correlation analysis to discuss about the connections among the questionnaire respondents' attitudes to bribery, subjective norms, perceived behavior control, and bribery intention. A multi-regression analysis was then conducted to test if the planned behavior theory can effectively predict bribery intention. The research found (1) according to the results of Pearson's correlation analysis, the respondents' bribery intention, attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavior control are positively correlated with one another; (2) according to the results of the multi-regression analysis, bribery intention can be explained through attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavior control with an adjusted R2 value of 0.591, meaning 59.1% of the bribery intention's variances can be explained through the three dimensions. In addition, each of the three dimensions has a significant influence on the respondents' behavior intentions.
As the number of Internet users has increased, the uses of social networking sites (SNSs) and online games have become universal activities across gender and ages. The extensive distribution and the usage of the Internet are beneficial to our society, but its adverse effects, such as Internet addiction, which refers to uncontrollable excessive Internet use, are becoming prevalent. Relevant social costs are also becoming troublesome. SNS and gaming addictions have negative effects on one's life, causing significant social problems. To illustrate different facets of these addictions, Problem Behavior Theory is adopted in the study. How self-esteem and perceived family environment affect SNS addiction and gaming addiction is addressed. The main subjects are Korean university students in their 20s who use SNS and play online games. The relationship between SNS addiction and gaming addiction is also addressed.

In this study, an enhanced first-order shear deformation theory is proposed to efficiently and accurately predict the thermo-mechanical-viscoelastic coupled behavior of laminated composite structures. To this end, transverse shearstress and displacement fields are independently assumed, and the strain-energy relationship between these fields issystematically established using the mixed variational theorem (MVT). In MVT, the transverse shear stress fields are obtained from the third-order zigzag model, whereas the displacement fields of the conventional first-order model are considered to amplify the benefits of numerical efficiency. Additionally, a transverse displacement field with a smooth parabolic distribution is introduced to accurately predict the thermal behavior of composite structures. Furthermore, the concept of Laplace transformation is newly employed to simplify the viscoelastic problem, similar to the linear-elastic problem. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed theory, the numerical results obtained herein were compared with those available in the literature.
In recent years, for the purpose of solving the problem regarding environment protection and resource saving, certain measures and policies have been promoted to establish a reverse supply chains (RSCs) with material flows from collection of used products to reuse the recycled parts in production of products. It is necessary to analyze behaviors of RSC members to determine the optimal operation. This paper discusses a RSC with a retailer and a manufacturer and verifies the behavior strategies of RSC members which may change over time in response to changes parameters related to the recycling promotion activity in RSC. A retailer takes two behaviors: cooperation/non-cooperation in recycling promotion activity. A manufacturer takes two behaviors: monitoring/non-monitoring of behaviors of the retailer. Evolutionary game theory combining the evolutionary theory of Darwin with game theory is adopted to clarify analytically evolutionary outcomes driven by a change in each behavior of RSC members over time. The evolutionary stable strategies (ESSs) for RSC members' behaviors are derived by using the replicator dynamics. The analysis numerically demonstrates how parameters of the recycling promotion activity: (i) sale promotion cost, (ii) monitoring cost, (iii) compensation and (iv) penalty cost affect the judgment of ESSs of behaviors of RSC members.
PURPOSES : Traffic accidents and damage due to speeding should be recognized as a problem which harms society and the economy as well as the parties to the accidents. It is time to seek more detailed and concrete customized alternatives than the existing policies for the prevention of traffic accidents. METHODS: In this study, we identified the characteristics driver behavior and psychological factors that lead to speeding, and a study was carried out to verify the causality models developed from the factors we identified. RESULTS : Driving behavior variables have a significant effect on speeding behaviors in order of Lapse, Violation, and Mistake. And the violation which is defined as intentional violation showed the result which supports the research hypothesis as it has the significant effect on speeding intention and behaviors. CONCLUSIONS: The result of this study can be utilized to develop educational problems concerning speeding and previous response with the main objective of eliminating speeding driver behavior.
The buckling of two elastic layers bonded to a semi-infinite substrate under a transverse compressive plane strain is investigated. Incremental deformation theory is employed to describe the buckling behavior of both two isotropic layers and the semi-infinite substrate. The problem is converted to an eigenvalue-eigenvector case, from which the critical buckling strain and the wavelength of the buckled shape are obtained. The results are presented on the effects of the layer geometries and material properties on the buckling behavior.
In order to cope with the ill-defined problem of human behavior being immanent uncertainty, several methodologies have been studied in game theoretic, social psychological and political science frameworks. As methods to arrange system elements systematically and draw out the consenting structural model concretively, ISM, FSM and DEMATEL based on graph theory etc. have been proposed. In this paper, we propose a modified structural modeling method to recognize the nature of problem. We introduce the statistical method to adjust the establishment levels in group decision situation. From this, it will become possible to obtain effectively and smoothly the structural model of group members in comparison with the traditional methods. Further we propose a procedure for achieving the consenting structural model of group members based on the structural modeling method. By applying the method to recognize the nature of ill-defined problems, it will be possible to solve the given problem effectively and rationally. In order to inspect the effectiveness of the method, we conduct a practical problem as an empirical study: "Behavior analysis of passengers for the Joban line of East Japan Railway Company after new railway service of Tsukuba Express opened".

The purpose of this study is to verify the feasibility of a model, based on the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), that predicts the intention of a problem gambler to abstain from gambling. In order to investigate attitudes toward gambling abstinence, subjective norms, perceived behavior control, and intentions to abstain from gambling, we surveyed 100 problem gamblers who used community-based service centers. Furthermore, we analyzed by the structural equation model whether attitude toward gambling abstinence, subjective norms, and perceived behavior control can influence the intention to abstain from gambling. The analysis of the study model revealed that the most powerful predictor of the gambling abstinence intention is perceived behavior control, followed by a positive attitude toward gambling abstinence. In contrast, subjective norms did not show a significant influence on intentions for gambling abstinence. Based on these results, we propose cognitive-behavioral interventions to improve attitudes and self-efficacy toward gambling abstinence in order to help problem gamblers recover. In other words, continuous support and coping-skills training are needed to reinforce the belief that people can recover from a gambling problem, and information and education on problem gambling to improve positive attitudes can also be helpful. Therefore, it is possible to consider not only the treatment of gambling problems, but also to provide preventive interventions centering on the addiction management institution.
We give a theorem for the existence of at least three solutions for the fourth order elliptic boundary value problem with the square growth variable coefficient nonlinear term. We use the variational reduction method and the critical point theory for the associated functional on the finite dimensional subspace to prove our main result. We investigate the shape of the graph of the associated functional on the finite dimensional subspace, (P.S.) condition and the behavior of the associated functional in the neighborhood of the origin on the finite dimensional reduction subspace.
Smart structures are those structure that could adopt some behavior to prevent instability in their responses. The recognition of stability deterioration has been performed through rigid mathematical formulations in control theory and unpredicted results could not be addressed in control systems since they are able to only work under their predefined condition. On the other hand, incorporating all affecting parameters could result in high computational cost and delay time in the response of the systems. Artificial intelligence (AI) method has shown to be a promising methodology not only in the computer science by at everyday life and in engineering problems. In the present study, we exploit the capabilities of artificial intelligence method to obtain frequency response of a smart structure. In this regard, a comprehensive development of equations is presented using Hamilton' principle and first order shear deformation theory. The equations were solved by numerical methods and the results are used to train an artificial neural network (ANN). It is demonstrated that ANN modeling could provide accurate results in comparison to the numerical solutions and it take less time than numerical solution.
