  • This paper considers the problem of determining the optimum proccss mean value of the quality characteristic of interest, and the screening limit for two correlated variables under single-stage screening. In the single-stage screening, inspection is performed on two correlated variables which are correlated with the quality characteristic of interest. Model is constructed which involves selling price, production, inspection, and penalty costs. Method for finding the optimum process mean and screening limit are presented when the quality characteristic of interest and the correlated variables are assumed to be jointly normally distributed. A numerical example is presented and numerical analysis is performed to compare the proposed screening based on two screening variables with screening based on one screening variable.

  • The problem of jointly determining the optimum process mean and screening limits for each market is considered in situations where there are several markets with different price/cost structures. The quality characteristic is assumed to be a normal distribution with unknown mean and known variance. A quadratic loss function is utilized for developing the economic model. Methods of finding the optimum process mean and screening limits are presented and a numerical example is given.

  • Nowadays the concern about development and diffusion strategies of new & renewable energy (NRE) and its technologies are getting higher globally as Kyoto Protocol has taken effect this year and oil has been rising in price tremendously. Developed countries have already commenced the study and research for this problem and are looking for various solutions. In this paper, the support Priority of NRE technologies are determined by horizontal comparison analyses.

  • This paper empirically examined the relationships between the characteristics of purchasing items and the effective e-procurement strategies. We found that the importance of items has influence on the effective e-procurement, while the complexity of purchasing process has little influence. This fact exhibits the automation of transactional process has little influence on carrying out e-procurement. We also found, companies prefer the horizontal e-marketplace to the vertical e-marketplace. In addition, companies want to purchase through the e-bidding or reverse auction for lower prices.

  • Vendor-managed inventory(VMI) is a supply chain strategy to improve the inventory turnover and customer service in supply chain management. Unfortunately, many VMI programs fail because they simply transfer the transactional aspects of placing replenishment orders from customer to vendor. In fact, such VMI programs often degrade supply chain performance because vendors lack capability to plan the VMI operations effectively in an integrated way under the dynamic, complex, and stochastic VMI supply chain environment. This paper presents a decision support system, termed DSSV, for VMI in the retail supply chain. DSSV supports the market forecasting, vendor's production planning, retailer's inventory replenishment planning, vehicle routing, determination of the system operating parameter values, retailer's purchase price decision, and what-if analysis. The potential benefits of DSSV include the provision of guidance, solution, and simulation environment for enterprises to reduce risks for their VMI supply chain operations.

  • This paper considers the problem of determining the optimal process mean and screening specification limits of a surrogate variable associated with product quality under two-stage screening procedure. In two-stage screening, the surrogate variable is inspected first to decide whether an item should be accepted, rejected or additional observations should be taken. If additional observations are required, the performance variable of interest is then observed to classify the undecided items. Assuming that the performance variable and the surrogate variable are jointly normally distributed, the optimal process mean and the screening limits are obtained by maximizing the expected profit which includes selling price, production, reprocessing, inspection and penalty costs. A numerical example is presented and numerical studies are performed to compare the proposed two-stage screening procedure with single-stage screening procedures.

  • The problem of jointly determining the optimum process mem and screening limits for each market is considered in situations where there are several markets with different price/cost structures. Two inspection procedures are considered; an inspection based on the quality characteristic of interest, and an inspection based on a surrogate variable which is highly correlated with the quality characteristic. The quality characteristic is assumed to be a normal distribution with unknown mean and known variance. A Taguchi's quadratic loss function is utilized for developing the economic model for determining the optimum process mean and screening limits. A numerical example is given.

  • Construction industry is the biggest employer as a single sector, however, that needs better job quality and working conditions due to problems such as lack of job stability, aging worker, late disbursement of wages, and so on. In order to deal with fundamental issues of construction skilled worker's wages, this paper performs comparing the wage system of the construction industry in South Korea and the United States, and analyzes the characteristics about wage structure and determination. As a result of this study about U.S. case, it requires all stakeholder's exertions through technical competitiveness and management ability, not price war by reducing laborer's wages.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine related variables to goods purchase by consumers using the home shopping of cable TV. For the purpose accomplishment, this study analyzed the variables which influence on the purchase by demographic variables, consumers'shopping propensity, perceived risk and benefit. The major findings are as follows; In the purchase of convenience goods, the variables which influence positively are sex, job(housewife), instantly impulse purchasing propensity, and diversity of goods information. On the other hand, the variables which influence negatively are risk of delivery & returned goods, and risk of quality. In the purchase of shopping goods, the variables which influence positively are state of marriage, job(nonspecialist), and diversity of goods information. On the other hand, the variables which influence negatively are pleasure of shopping-oriented, risk of delivery & returned goods, and risk of quality. In the purchase of specialty goods, the variables which influence positively are sex, income, convenience of time, and convenience of approach. On the other hand, the variables which influence negatively are pleasure of shopping-oriented, and risk of price & information restriction.

  • This paper deals with the difficulties involved in analyzing and designing a management system to reduce the risks and improve the productivity of new product development. In this paper, a method is described to analyze user information and determine product specifications based on a stimulus-response model, the conjoint measurement of users needs, and product characteristics deployment. The proposed method can analyze the effect of a partial price on the contribution ratio based on the order of preference of product profiles through a smaller number of product profiles. The strengths and weaknesses of this method are examined as the method is applied to the case study of a mobile computer intended for personal use.
