  • The era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is increasingly demanding mathematical competencies for virtual reality (VR), artificial intelligence (AI) and the like. In this context, this study intended to identify the basic mathematical competency levels of university freshman students in radiology department and to provide basic data thereon. For this, the diagnostic assessment of basic learning competencies for the domain of mathematics was conducted from June 17, 2019 to June 28, 2019 among 78 freshman students of radiology department at S university and D university. As a result, the university students' overall basic mathematical competency levels were diagnosed to be excellent. However, their levels in the sectors of the geometry and vector and the probability and statistics were diagnosed to be moderate, with the mean scores of 2.61 points and 2.64 points, respectively, which were found to be lower than those of the other sections. As for basic mathematical competency levels according to genders, the levels of male students and female students were diagnosed to be excellent, with the mean scores of 17.48 points and 16.29 points, respectively, showing no statistically significant difference (p>0.05). Given the small number of subjects and regional restriction, there might be some limitations in the generalization of the findings of the present study to all university freshman students and all departments. The above results suggest that it is necessary to implement various programs such as student level-based special lectures for enhancing basic mathematical competencies relating to major in order to improve the basic mathematical competencies of freshman students in radiology department, and that it is necessary to increase the students' mathematical competencies by offering major math courses in the curriculum and applying teaching-learning methods matching students' levels.

  • Today, the United States, Europe and other advanced organizations are utilizing the concept of competency-based HR management. Recently, many organizations in Korea are also managing workforces by introducing the concept of job competencies in personnel management. However, in spite of the current trend, domestic human resources management methods for construction managers continues to operate by asking about work experience, licensing, education level, etc. This is a seniority system and it functions separately from an assessment of practical job competencies for the business. Moreover, construction management work has been very fragmented in terms of expertise and capacity depending on the type of management work and project progress. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a competencies management system for each business segment to effectively manage job competencies that reflect the the characteristics of a construction manager' s work. As such, the aim of this study is to analyze human resources management methods pertaining to domestic construction managers and present challenges and limitations in current practices. In particular, factors affecting the job competencies of construction managers are analyzed statistically. The results of this study will be used as the basis for future research into development of a construction manager competency management system.

  • This study analyzes the status of the NCS (National Competency Standards) based curriculum in which the apprenticeship program of vocational education and training high schools (VET high schools) participating in the apprenticeship system is included to present suggestions for organizing and evaluating the apprenticeship curriculum. For this, data on the status of curricula of 141 courses (75.8%) in 116 VET high schools participating in the apprenticeship system were analyzed. The results of the study are as follows. First, the average time assigned for the apprenticeship program was 1,054.2 hours and the apprenticeship program was organized in 12.4 courses in the school curriculum. The degree of evaluation per NCS competency unit of courses was found to be 95.4% for evaluation per competency unit and 5.6% for evaluation regardless of competency unit. Second, the average number of courses including apprenticeship programs in time assigned for the courses in school curriculum (when appropriate) was 11.5 (93.1%) and the average number of courses including apprenticeship programs in the contents of the school curriculum courses (when appropriate) was 10.6 (85.5%). Third, it was found that courses organized only for 'common competency units' were 8.5 (68.5%) and the number of courses in which 'student option competency units' were included was found to be 3.9 (31.5%). In addition to these study results, policy suggestions such as applying suspension on the approval period for change of curriculum by metropolitan and provincial offices of education, inspection on curriculum and enhanced consulting by metropolitan and provincial offices of education, providing plans to evaluate 'student option competency units', newly establishing 'subjects specialized for companies' or 'student option subjects' in national level curriculum are proposed.

  • Recent changes in landscape architectural field, such as keen attention on central and local government, checks of other related fields, circumstances both inside and outside the construction industry, assume hostile attitude towards qualification system in landscape architecture. By securing the original function of qualification meets the environmental changes and accords to the technical development, practicality and serviceability of qualification as well as credit rating and professional status can be enforced. Framework redesign on landscape architecture National Technical Qualifications(NTQ) is required in order to meet the demand in the industrial fields and to reflect the technical changes. National Competency Standards(NCS) was selected as a precedent study to enhance the practicality and serviceability of NTQ as well as to avoid duplication on qualified requirements. It would provide a model to redesign the framework of landscape architecture NTQ. In this study, questions in NCS and in landscape architecture certification are compared and analyzed to review the suitability of the present landscape architecture certification items. In conclusion, the creation of master landscape architect under the present system, and the subdivision of the technician's license level to planting technician and the facility are recommended. The ability units to be qualified for each level, which would be used for future NTQ standards and university curriculums in relevant fields, are also suggested in this study.

  • The present study aims to demonstrate that it is possible to objectively evaluate the competency (referred to as graduate attributes or program outcomes) of graduates of engineering education programs. To strengthen the link between engineering education accreditation and the qualification/certification system of engineering professionals, referred to as K-Engineering Professional (K-EP), individually assuring the quality of accredited graduates using multiple-choice test as main assessment tool is proposed. Test questions related to the basic vocational skills of NCS are developed for seven of the 10 program outcomes of the ABEEK KEC2015. The three program outcomes, PO1, PO3, and PO5, which need to fully accommodate the characteristics of each disciplinary field, are excluded. A pilot test involving graduates of eight accredited programs is conducted. Applying on Rasch model based on Item Response Theory (IRT), the item difficulty, fit and discrimination of multiple choice test are demonstrated. The pilot study strongly suggests that individual competency evaluation is possible at a certain level for seven program outcomes tested. For PO1, PO3, and PO5, however, questions that address the characteristics of each disciplinary field need to be devised. If a suitable pool of questions is built, it can be used as a program outcomes assessment tool by the accredited programs.
