  • Some companies are trying to develop the microfiltration membranes because most of them used as a prefilter is imported in Korea. However, they are faced with much difficulty such as characterization of membrane and controlling of pore size on development. In this study, a microfiltration membrane developed by a company was evaluated for applicability to use as a prefilter before reverse osmosis membrane process in production of ultra pure water. The optimum feed pressure for the raw water was obtained at 0.2 to 0.4 atm. At that time, turbidity of the treated water was 0.4 NTU and flux was 6,000 to $9,000L/m^2/hr$. In case of the conventionally treated water, it showed the very stable flux and turbidity at 90% of recovery rate. The chemical cleaning was helpful to reduce the TMP for treated water. The turbidity was improved from 0.3 NTU to 0.1 NTU after chemical cleaning.

  • A new dust cleaning vehicle is needed to remove fine and ultra-fine particulate matter in subway tunnels. Therefore, the recently developed tunnel cleaning vehicle is equipped with an efficient suction system and cyclone-based prefilter to handle ultra-fine particles. To treat various sizes of particulate matter with an underbody suction system, this paper proposes a cyclone-based prefilter in the suction system and validates the dust removal efficiency through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis using ANSYS FLUENT. Using the created surface and volume mesh, various particle sizes, materials, and fan flow rates, the particles were tracked in the flow with a discrete phase model. As a result, the dust cleaning vehicle at a normal operational speed of 5km/h requires at least a fan flow rate of $1500m^3/min$ and 100mm of suction inlet height from the tunnel track floor. Those suction modules and cyclone-based prefilters in the dust cleaning vehicle reduces the dust accumulation load of the electric precipitator and helps remove the accumulated fine and ultra-fine dust in the subway tunnel.

  • Fuzzy inference which combines numerical data and linguistic data has been used to design adaptive filter algorithms. In adaptive IIR filter design, the fuzzy prefilter is taken account, and applied to both direct and lattice structure. As for the fuzzy inference of the fuzzy filter, the Sugeno's method is employed. As membership functions and inference rules are recursively generated through neural network, the accuracy can be improved. The proposed adaptive algorithm, adaptive IIR filter with fuzzy prefilter, has been applied to adaptive system identification for the purposed of performance test. The evaluations have been carried out with viewpoints of convergence property and tracking properties of the parameter estimation. As a result, the faster convergence and the better coefficients tracking performance than those of the conventional algorithm are shown in case of direct structures.

  • In this paper, we present a robust Two Degree of Freedom (TDF) $H_{\infty}$ controllers for a missile system. The feedback controller is designed to meet robust stability and disturbance rejection specifications while the prefilter is used to improve the robust model matching properties of the closed loop system. As the perturbed model, we use the normalized coprim factor perturbations. These controllers are designed using $H_{\infty}$ optimization procedures, and applied to a missile model via simulation.

  • In this paper, a Two-Degree-of-Freedom-Controller(TDFC) for DC motors based on inverse dynamics and the fuzzy technique is presented. The proposed controller includes the inverse dynamic model of a DC motor system, a prefilter and a fuzzy compensator. The model of the system is characterized by a nonlinear equation with coulomb friction. The prefilter eliminates high frequency effects occurring when the inverse dynamic model is implemented. The fuzzy compensator is designed for tracking the change of the reference input and simultaneously regulating the error between the reference input and the system output which can be caused by disturbances. The optimal parameters of both the model and the compensator are identified by a real-coded genetic algorithm. An experimental work on a DC motor system is carried out to verify the performance of the proposed controller.

  • The adaptive line enhancer (ALE) is widely used for enhancing narrowband signals corrupted by broadband noise. In this paper, we propose novel ALE methods to improve the enhancing capability. The proposed methods are motivated by the fact that the output of the ALE is a fine estimate of the desired narrowband signal with the broadband noise component suppressed. The proposed methods preprocess the input signal using ALE filter to regenerate a finer input signal. Thus the proposed ALE is driven by the input signal with higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The analysis and simulation results are presented to demonstrate that the proposed ALE has better performance than conventional ALE´s.

  • This paper considers enhancing the robustness of a MIMO(Multi-Input Multi-Output) predictive control system. The characteristic polynomial matrix of the closed-loop is shown to consist of two factors $P_c$ and T, where $P_c$ is determined by the tuning knobs of the predictive controller and T is an observer or prefilter polynomial matrix. The robust stability condition is derived in terms of $P_c$ and T. A guideline on the selection of T is then presented for open-loop stable processes.

  • The method of designing robust two degree of freedom(2 DOF) controllers for linear systems with parameter uncertainties and unmodeled dynamics is presented in this paper. Robust performance condition that accounts for robust model matching of closed loop system and disturbance rejection is derived. Using the robust performance condition, the feedback controller is designed to meet robust stability and disturbance rejection specifications, while prefilter is used to improve the robust model matching properties. The $H^{\infty}$ and $\mu$ controller for six degree of freedom vehicle with parameter variations are designed and compared. Simulations for hydrodynamic parameter variations and disturbance are presented to demonstrate the achievement of good robust performance.

  • In This Paper, Linearization problem is discussed to reduce distortion of a nonlinear system based on Schetzen's pth-orfer inverse theorem. We propose a nonlinear adaptive prefiltering algorithm which can reduse nonlinear distortion up to pth order by tandemly connecting a pth-order Volterra filter before the nonlinear system under the consideration and by adjusting the filter coefficients adaptively. The feasibility of applying the proposed algorithm to a nonlinear system is conformed via computer simulation by observing significant reduction of total nonlinear distortion for the case of random input and sinusoidal input excitation.
