The purpose of this study is to develop a control algorithm for outdoor air cooling based on the prediction of cooling load, and to evaluate the building energy saving using outdoor air cooling. Outdoor air conditions such as temperature, humidity, and solar insolation are predicted using forecasted information provided by the meteorological agency, and the building cooling load is predicted from the obtained outdoor air conditions and building characteristics. The air flow rate induced by outdoor air is determined by considering the predicted cooling loads. To evaluate the energy saving, the benchmark building is modeled and simulated using the TRNSYS program. Energy saving by outdoor air cooling using load prediction is found to be around 10% of the total cooling coil load in all locations of Korea. As the allowable minimum indoor temperature is decreased, the total energy saving is increased and approaches close to that of the conventional enthalpy control.

This paper proposes a method to predict maximum traction for unmanned robots on rough terrain in order to improve traversability. For a traction prediction, we use a friction-slip model based on modified Brixius model derived empirically in terramechanics which is a function of mobility number $B_n$ and slip ratio S. A friction-slip model includes characteristics of various rough terrains where robots are operated such as soil, sandy soil and grass-covered soil. Using a friction-slip model, we build a prediction model for terrain parameters on which we can know maximum static friction and optimal slip with respect to mobility number $B_n$. In this paper, Mobility number $B_n$ is estimated by modified Willoughby Sinkage model which is a function of sinkage z and slip ratio S. Therefore, if sinkage z and slip ratio are measured once by sensors such as a laser sensor and a velocity sensor, then mobility number $B_n$ is estimated and maximum traction is predicted through a prediction model for terrain parameters. Estimation results for maximum traction are shown on simulation using MATLAB. Prediction Performance for maximum traction of various terrains is evaluated as high accuracy by analyzing estimation errors.

Grid computing is widely applicable to various fields of industry including process control and manufacturing, military command and control, transportation management, and so on. In a viewpoint of application area, grid computing can be classified to three aspects that are computational grid, data grid and access grid. This paper focuses on computational grid which handles complex and large-scale computing problems. Computational grid is characterized by system dynamics which handles a variety of processors and jobs on continuous time. To solve problems of system complexity and reliability due to complex system dynamics, computational grid needs scheduling policies that allocate various jobs to proper processors and decide processing orders of allocated jobs. This paper proposes the service prediction-based job scheduling model and present its algorithm that is applicable for computational grid. The service prediction-based job scheduling model can minimize overall system execution time since the model predicts a processing time of each processing component and distributes a job to processing component with minimum processing time. This paper implements the job scheduling model on the DEVSJAVA modeling and simulation environment and simulates with a case study to evaluate its efficiency and reliability Empirical results, which are compared to the conventional scheduling policies such as the random scheduling and the round-robin scheduling, show the usefulness of service prediction-based job scheduling.
In this study, we first briefly introduce the effect of circulating current control on the modulation signal of a modular multilevel converter (MMC). The maximum modulation index is also theoretically derived. According to the optimal modulation index analysis and the model in the continuous domain, different DC-side output impedance equivalent models of MMC with/without compensating component are derived. The DC-side impedance of MMC inverter station can be regarded as a series xR + yL + zC branch in both cases. The compensating component of the maximum modulation index is also related to the DC equivalent impedance with circulating current control. The frequency characteristic of impedance for MMC, which is observed from its DC side, is analyzed. Finally, this study investigates the prediction of the DC voltage ripple transfer between two-terminal MMC high-voltage direct current systems under unbalanced conditions. The rationality and accuracy of the impedance model are verified through MATLAB/Simulink simulations and experimental results.

Martensite volume fraction significantly affects the mechanical properties of alloy steels. Martensite start temperature (Ms), transformation temperature for martensite 50 vol.% (M50), and transformation temperature for martensite 90 vol.% (M90) are important transformation temperatures to control the martensite phase fraction. Several researchers proposed empirical equations and machine learning models to predict the Ms temperature. These numerical approaches can easily predict the Ms temperature without additional experiment and cost. However, to control martensite phase fraction more precisely, we need to reduce prediction error of the Ms model and propose prediction models for other martensite transformation temperatures (M50, M90). In the present study, machine learning model was applied to suggest the predictive model for the Ms, M50, M90 temperatures. To explain prediction mechanisms and suggest feature importance on martensite transformation temperature of machine learning models, the explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) is employed. Random forest regression (RFR) showed the best performance for predicting the Ms, M50, M90 temperatures using different machine learning models. The feature importance was proposed and the prediction mechanisms were discussed by XAI.
In this paper, an improved predictive functional control (PFC) scheme for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) control system is proposed, on account of the standard PFC method cannot provides a satisfying disturbance rejection performance in the case of strong disturbances. The PFC-based method is first introduced in the control design of speed loop, since the good tracking and robustness properties of the PFC heavily depend on the accuracy of the internal model of the plant. However, in orthodox design of prediction model based control method, disturbances are not considered in the prediction model as well as the control design. A minimum-order observer (MOO) is introduced to estimate the disturbances, which structure is simple and can be realized at a low computational load. This paper adopted the MOO to observe the load torque, and the observations are then fed back into PFC model to rebuild it when considering the influence of perturbation. Therefore, an improved PFC strategy with torque compensation, called the PFC+MOO method, is presented. The validity of the proposed method was tested via simulation and experiments. Excellent results were obtained with respect to the speed trajectory tracking, stability, and disturbance rejection.

This paper describes the Flight Dynamics Automation (FDA) system for COMS Flight Dynamics System (FDS) and its test result in terms of the performance of the automation jobs. FDA controls the flight dynamics functions such as orbit determination, orbit prediction, event prediction, and fuel accounting. The designed FDA is independent from the specific characteristics which are defined by spacecraft manufacturer or specific satellite missions. Therefore, FDA could easily links its autonomous job control functions to any satellite mission control system with some interface modification. By adding autonomous system along with flight dynamics system, it decreases the operator's tedious and repeated jobs but increase the usability and reliability of the system. Therefore, FDA is used to improve the completeness of whole mission control system's quality. The FDA is applied to the real flight dynamics system of a geostationary satellite, COMS and the experimental test is performed. The experimental result shows the stability and reliability of the mission control operations through the automatic job control.

Most hot water heating valves for apartments are constant-flow types, which limit the flow rate through an individual household for even distribution of heating water to other households. The constant-flow type is implemented by an on-off control. As a result, heating water is supplied intermittently and hence, indoor air temperature also fluctuates. Returning water temperature is also high, which reduces energy efficiency. To implement continuous feedback control, the indoor temperature dynamics was simulated to fit a measured temperature history by a state-of-the-art physical model. From the model, it was found that the most important disturbance is outdoor temperature and its effect on indoor temperature lasts about an hour. To cope with the slow response and the significant disturbance, a prediction control with proportional feedback is proposed. The control was found to be successful in implementing continuous heating water flow and improved indoor temperature control.

Building prediction and control theory have been drawing the attention of many scientists over the past few years because design and control efficiency consumes the most financial and energy. In the literature, many methods have been proposed to achieve this goal by trying different control theorems, but all of these methods face some problems in correctly solving the problem. The Evolutionary Bat (EB) Algorithm is one of the recently introduced optimization methods and providing researchers to solve different types of optimization problems. This paper applies EB to the optimization of building control design. The optimized parameter is the input to the fuzzy controller, which gives the status response as an output, which in turn changes the state of the associated actuator. The novel control criterion for guarantee of the stability of the system is also derived for the demonstration in the analysis. This systematic and simplified controller design approach is the contribution for solving complex dynamic engineering system subjected to external disturbances. The experimental results show that the method achieves effective results in the design of closed-loop system. Therefore, by establishing the stability of the closed-loop system, the behavior of the closed-loop building system can be precisely predicted and stabilized.
For higher component density per chip, it is necessary to identify and control the semiconductor manufacturing process more stringently. Recently, neural networks have been identified as one of the most promising techniques for modeling and control of complicated processes such as plasma etching process. Since wafer states after each run using identical recipe may differ from each other, conventional neural network models utilizing input factors only cannot represent the actual state of process and equipment. In this paper, in addition to the input factors of the recipe, real-time tool data are utilized for modeling of 64M DRAM s-poly plasma etching process to reflect the actual state of process and equipment. For real-time tool data, we collect optical emission spectroscopy (OES) data. Through principal component analysis (PCA), we extract principal components from entire OES data. And then these principal components are included to input parameters of neural network model. Finally neural network model is trained using feed forward error back propagation (FFEBP) algorithm. As a results, simulation results exhibit good wafer state prediction capability after plasma etching process.
