The grain size control of A356 alloy by electromagnetic stirring (전자교반을 이용한 A356 합금의 결정립제어)

  • In this study, the morphology of the change of primary Al phase in A356 alloy by two kinds of electromagnetic stirrers(vertical and horizontal) were investigated to obtain the globular structure. The effects of the stirring current, the stirring time and the pouring temperature were determined. The greater stirring current and longer stirring time were to get the finer the Al phase. However, over a certain stirring current and stirring time, the primary Al was merged together and was increased. The reason is the degree of breakdown of initial dendrites has been decreased by the collision and coalescence of particles with increasing stirring current and stirring time. The optimum conditions and difference of the two kinds of electromagnetic stirrers have been investigated for rheology forming with controlled solid fraction.

Ultrasonic Pattern Recognition of Welding Defects Using the Chaotic Feature Extraction (카오스 특징 추출에 의한 용접 결함의 초음파 형상 인식)

  • The ultrasonic test is recognized for its significance as a non-destructive testing method to detect volume defects such as porosity and incomplete penetration which reduce strength in the weld zone. This paper illustrates the defect detection in the weld zone of ferritic carbon steel using ultrasonic wave and the evaluation of pattern recognition by chaotic feature extraction using time series signal of detected defects as data. Shown in the time series data were that the time delay was 4 and the embedding dimension was 6 which indicate the geometric dimension of the subject system and the extent of information correlation. Based on fractal dimension and lyapunov exponent in quantitative chaotic feature extraction, feature value of 2.15, 0.47 is presented for porosity and 2.24, 0.51 for incomplete penetration The precision rate of the pattern recognition is enhanced with these values on the total waveform of defect signal in the weld zone. Therefore, we think that the ultrasonic pattern recognition method of weld zone defects of ferritic carbon steel by ultrasonic-chaotic feature extraction proposed in this paper can boost precision rate further than the existing method applying only partial waveform.

  • Time synchronization is essential for a number of network applications such as high speed communication and parallel/distribution processing systems. As the era of ubiquitous computing is ushered in, the high precise time synchronization in wireless networks have been required in. This paper presents the design ana the implementation of the high precision time synchronization in wireless networks using ZigBee. To achieve high precision requirements, we have tried to analyze and reduce error factors such as the latency and jitters of a protocol stack on wireless environments. In addition, this paper includes some experiments and performance evaluations of our system. The result is that we established for nodes in a network to maintain their elects to within a 50 nanosecond offset from the reference clock.

  • Increasing demands on precision machining with computerized numerical control (CNC) machines have necessitated that the tool to move not only position error as small as possible, but also with smoothly varying feedrates in space. This paper presents a new high precision interpolation algorithm for 3-dimensional (3D) Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURBS) curve in the reference-pulse CNC technique. Based on the minimum path error strategy, real-time NURBS interpolator was developed in software and this was implemented with a PC-NC milling machine. The several experimental results have shown that the proposed NURBS interpolator is useful for the high precision machining of complex shapes. It is expected that this algorithm can be applied to the CNC machines for the machining of 3D free-form surfaces.

  • The effects of two important numerical procedures on the high precision structural analysis are investigated in this study. The two numerical procedures include continuous variable approximation and time integration. For the continuous variable approximation, polynomial mode functions generated by the Gram-Schmidt process are introduced and the numerical results obtained by employing the polynomial mode functions are compared to those obtained by classical beam mode functions. The effect of the time integration procedure on the analysis precision is also investigated. It is found that the two procedures affect the precision of structural analysis significantly.

  • The Android OS has quickly established itself with the smartphone market and is being applied in a variety of ways such as navigation and refrigerator panels. Existing terminals can implement services that require high precision while using RTOS that requires accurate execution time, but Android OS has a disadvantage in that it cannot provide high-precision real-time performance. In this paper, we propose a real-time communication method that operates in the Android OS. Real-time communication reduces the load using the UDP protocol, and configures the real-time operating system time tick through a high-precision timer in the kernel area. An Android application level library was created to implement real-time communication and compared with the existing Android library for real-time performance verification.

  • Chemical-mechanical polishing, the dominant technology for LSI planarization, is trending to play an important function in micro-electro mechanical systems (MEMS). However, MEMS CMP process has a couple of different characteristics in comparison to LSI device CMP since the feature size of MEMS is bigger than that of LSI devices. Preliminary CMP tests are performed to understand material removal rate (MRR) with blanket wafer under a couple of polishing pressure and velocity. Based on the blanket CMP data, this paper focuses on the consumable approach to enhance MEMS CMP by the adjustment of slurry and pad. As a mechanical tool, newly developed microstructured (MS) pad is applied to compare with conventional pad (IC 1400-k Nitta-Haas), which is fabricated by micro melding method of polyurethane. To understand the CMP characteristics in real time, in-situ friction force monitoring system was used. Finally, the topography change of poly-si MEMS structures is compared according to the pattern density, size and shape as polishing time goes on.

  • Modern automobiles are built with a steadily increasing variety of materials and semifinished products. The traditional composition of steel sheet and cast iron is being replaced with other materials such as aluminum and magnesium. But low formability of these materials has prevented the application of the automotive components. The formability can be enhanced by conducting the warm hydroforming using induction heating device which can raise the temperature of the specimen very quickly. The specimen applied to the test is A6061, A7075 extruded tubes which belong to the age-hardenable aluminum alloys. But in the case of A6061 age hardening occurs at room temperature or at elevated temperatures before and after the forming process. In this study the effects of the heating condition such as heating time, preset temperature, holding time during die closing and forming time on the hydroformability are analyzed to evaluate the phenomena such as dynamic strain hardening and ageing hardening at high temperatures after the hydroforming process.

  • This paper presents a method to detect a rotor position and to drive a BLDC motor from standstill to medium speed without any position sensor comparing the current responses due to the inductance variation in the rotor position. A rotor position at a standstill is identified by the current responses of six pulses injected to each phase of a motor. Once the motor stars up pulse train that is composed of long and short pulses is injected to the phase corresponding to produce the maximum torque and the next phase continuously. it provides not only the torque but also the information of the next commutation time effectively when the response of long and short pulses crosses each other after the same time delay. This method which is verified experimentally using a DSP can drive a BLDC motor to the medium speed smoothly without any rattling and time delay compared with the conventional sensorless algorithm.

  • Unmanned drone stations for automatic charging have been developed in order to overcome the flying time limitation of rotary wing drones. Since the drone stations is an unmanned operating system, each of the drones will be required to have a high degree of landing accuracy. Drone precision landing has been mainly studied depended on image processing technologies, but the image processing systems make several problems, such as the mission weight, the drone cost, and the development complexity increases, and the flight time decrease. Thus, this paper researched accuracy of precision landing based on RTK (real time kinetics) for rotary wing drones. For the experiments of RTK based precision landing, a drone repeatedly performed three missions. The survey accuracies of the RTK about missions respectively were set as 0.3, 0.2, and 0.1 meters. Each mission has one take-off point, two way-points and one landing-point, and was repeated ten times. The experiment results revealed landing error distance means of around 0.258, 0.12 and 0.057 meters on each of RTK setting.
