Design and Performance Analysis of Pre-Distorter Including HPA Memory Effect

  • OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) signals sutler serious nonlinear distortion in the nonlinear HPA(High Power Amplifier) because of high PAPR(Peak Average Power Ratio). Nonlinear distortion can be improved by a pre-distorter, but this pre-distorter is insufficient when the PAPR is very high in an OPFDM system. In this paper, a DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform) transform technique is introduced for PAPR reduction. It is especially important to consider the memory effect of HPA for more precise predistortion. Therefore, in this paper, we consider two models, the TWTA(Traveling-Wave Tube Amplifier) model of Saleh without a memory effect and the HPA memory polynomial model that has a memory effect. We design a pre-distorter and an adaptive pre-distorter that uses the NLMS(Normalized Least Mean Square) algorithm for the compensation of this nonlinear distortion. Without the consideration of a memory effect, the system performance would be degraded, even if the pre-distorter is used for the compensation of the nonlinear distortion. From the simulation results, we can confirm that the proposed system shows an improvement in performance.

EOG를 이용한 포인팅 디바이스의 개발 (Development of the Pointing Device using EOG)

  • In this paper, a new method for controlling the pointing device using EOG(electrooculogram) signal generated from eye movement was suggested. The basic idea of the method is to control the direction of pointer, as using the results of measuring each component of the horizontal EOG and the vertical EOG by angle of eye-gaze. As a practical example, pointing device controlling the personal computer's pointer is manufactured. The designed pointing device consists of pre-amplifier, A/D converter, serial transmission device and PC program. That is, first, the EOG is amplified by pre-amplifier. Secondly, the amplified EOG is digitized and transmitted to personal computer by PIC16C74A. Finally, the software for controlling the pointer on personal computer is programed. As the result, the measured horizontal EOG and vertical EOG by eye-gaze angle had high linearity; the correlation coefficients of the regression line were 0.998 and 0.996 respectively. And the developed pointing device is able to control the personal computer's pointer, and the average of the errors between the objective value and the observed value had 3.77% for horizontal axis and 5.85% for vertical axis. The pointing device developed in this study is able to control personal computer's pointer by subject's eye movement, that is, the user's intention. Furthermore, the algorithm of this study is applicable for many field, such as a new method remote control, a new wheelchair control and so forth.

  • 디지털 보청기용 저전력, 저잡음 전치증폭기를 설계하였다. 본 전치증폭기는 일렛트렛 마이크로부터 싱글엔드 형태로 입력 받은 신호를 증폭한 후, 차동신호의 형태로 ADC에 전달한다. 또, 3.6, 7.2, 14.4, 28.8의 가변이득을 가지며 100Hz~10kHz의 주파수 대역에서 동작한다. 설계된 증폭기는 130nm CMOS 공정으로 제작되었으며, 1.2V 전원을 사용하여 측정한 결과 85dB의 SNR, 0.05%의 고조파 왜곡 및 $200{\mu}W$의 파워소모를 얻었다.

  • 차동 전송 기술과 저 전압 스윙을 기반으로 하는 LVDS(Low Voltage Differential Signaling)는 저 전력으로 고속 데이터 전송을 필요로 하는 분야에 넓게 사용되어 왔다. 본 논문은 1.3 Gb/s 이상에서 동작하는 새로운 I/O 인터페이스 회로 기술을 소개한다. 기존의 LVDS 수신단에서 사용하는 차동 pre-amp 대신에 sense amplifier를 pre-amp로 사용하는 수신단을 제안하였으며 이러한 수신단은 LVDS 송신단 출력 전압을 상당히 줄이고 1.3 Gb/s 이상의 전송 속도를 제공할 수 있다. 또한 전력소비와 노이즈 특성을 더욱 향상시키기 위하여 종단 저항을 사용하는 대신 인덕턴스로 임피던스 매칭을 하는 방법을 소개하였다. LVDS 수신단의 pre-amp로 사용하는 differential amp와 sense amp의 입력 인덕턴스로 임피던스 매칭을 하기 위해 unfolded 임피던스 매칭의 새로운 방법을 제안하였다. 제안한 LVDS I/O 회로들의 성능 분석 및 평가를 위하여 0.35um TSMC CMOS 테크놀로지를 기본으로 HSPICE를 이용하여 시뮬레이션 하였으며, 약 12 %의 전력 이득과 약 18 %의 전송 속도 향상을 나타내었다.

  • A 900MHz CMOS RF power amplifier with digitally controllable output power has been proposed and designed with 0.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ standard CMOS technology. The designed power amplifier was composed of digitally controllable switch mode pre-amplifiers with an integrated 4nH spiral inductor load and class-C output stage. Especially, to compensate the 1ow Q of integrated spiral inductor, cascode amplifier with a Q-enhancement circuit is used. It has been shown that the proposed power control technique allows the output power to change from almost 3dBm to 13.5dBm. And it has a maximum PAE(Power Added Efficiency) of almost 55% at 900MHz operating frequency and 3V power supply voltage.

  • Advanced FeedForward method use Predistortion method and FeedForward method simultaneously. This method better than original Feedforward method in linearity and supply smaller power to pre-power amplifier than different methods, and then it has higher power efficiency and better linearity than original Feedforward method. A linear power amplifier using Advanced feedforward method is designed and fabricated for IMT-2000 transmission system (2110㎒ -2170M㎓). This amplifier's power gain is about 40㏈ and it's 3-rd IMD(Intermodulation distortion) are smaller than about -55㏈c(@ 10MHz).

  • 본 논문에서는 통신위성시스템 탑재를 위한 Ku-Band 선형화 채널증폭기 비행모델의 설계와 제작된 결과를 고찰하였다. 정착된 모든 서브모듈, 즉 가변이득증폭기, 가변전압감쇠기, 그리고 전치왜곡 보상회로를 위한 브랜치 라인 결합기와 검출기는 Thin-Film Hybrid 작업으로 제작되었다. 제작된 모듈의 성능은 초고주파 회로분석 시뮬레이션 툴과 우주환경에서의 전기적인 성능시험을 통하여 검증하였다.

  • A clinically oriented 32-channel electroencephalogram (EEG) and evoked potential (EP) mapping system has been developed EEG and EP signals acquired from 32-channel electrodes attached on the heroid surface are amplified by a pre-amplifier which is separated from main amplifier and is located near the patient to reduce signal attenuation and noise contamination between electrodes and the amplifier. The amplified signals are further amplified by a main amplifier where various filtering and gain contr61 are achieved An automatic artifact rejection scheme is employed using neural network-based EEG and artifact classifier, by which examination time is substantially reduce4 The continuously measured EEG sigrlals are used for spectral mapping, and auditory and visual evoked potentials measured in synchronous to the auditory and visual stimuli are used for temporal evoked potential mapping. A user-friendly graphical interface based on the Microsoft Window 3.1 is developed for the operation of the system. Statistical databases for comparisons of group and individual are included to support a statistically-based diagnosis.
