The evaporation pressure drop of $CO_2$ (R-744) in a horizontal tube was investigated experimentally. The main components of the refrigerant loop are a receiver, a variable-speed pump, a mass flow meter, a pre-heater and an evaporator (test section). The test section consists of a smooth, horizontal stainless steel tube of 4.57 mm inner diameter. The experiments were conducted at saturation temperature of $-5^{\circ}C\;to\;5^{\circ}C$, and heat flux of 10 to $40kW/m^2$. The test results showed that the evaporation pressure drop of $CO_2$ are highly dependent on the vapor quality, heat flux and saturation temperature. The measured pressure drop during the evaporation process of $CO_2$ increases with increased mass flux, and decreased saturation temperature. The evaporation pressure drop of $CO_2$ is much lower than that of R 22. In comparison with test results and existing correlations, the best fit of the present experimental data is obtained with the previous correlation. But existing correlations failed to predict the evaporation pressure drop of $CO_2$. Therefore, it is necessary to develop reliable and accurate predictions determining the evaporation pressure drop of $CO_2$ in a horizontal tube.
Purpose: This study investigated the effectiveness of education regarding cuff pressure following endotracheal tube intubation using a quasi-experimental design with a pre- and posttest non-equivalent control group. Methods: A total of 78 students from two universities participated in an education intervention on the importance of cuff pressure after endotracheal tube intubation between October and December, 2016. The intervention lasted 40 minutes. Data were collected from each student before the intervention and one week following the intervention. Analyses were conducted using chi-square tests, Fisher's exact tests, and analysis of covariance. Results: A total of 38 students were assigned to the experimental group and 40 to the control group. The educational intervention of cuff pressure following endotracheal tube intubation was associated with prevention of possible complications from excessive cuff pressure (F=121.02, p<.001). Conclusion: Training with a pressure gauge and an intubation manikin is necessary to determine the appropriate cuff pressure in the intubation protocol of the practical examination in the emergency medical technology.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of subtraction meditation on perceived stress, self-efficacy, blood pressure, and pulse rate in paramedic students. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with non-equivalent comparison groups using pre and post-test design was performed. The experimental group consisted of 27 participants who attended the meditation program, and the control group consisted of 26 non-participants of the program. The data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 24.0. Results: There were a statistically significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in perceived stress(t=2.301, p=.026), systolic pressure(F=18.531, p=.000), diastolic pressure(F=9.745, p=.003), and pulse rate(F=33.869, p=.000) between pretest and posttest results. Conclusion: The subtraction meditation program can help reduce perceived stress, systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, and pulse rate.
The pressure difference across stenotic blood vessels is a commonly used clinical metric for diagnosing many cardiovascular diseases. At present, most clinical pressure measurements rely solely on invasive catheterization. In this study, we propose a novel method for non-invasive pressure estimation using the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and a 3D multi-path integration approach. We verify spatio-temporal convergence on an in-silico dataset of a cylindrical straight pipe phantom with steady and pulsatile flow fields. We then evaluate the proposed method on an in vitro dataset of reconstructed control, pre-operative, and post-operative carotid artery cases acquired from 4D flow MRI. The performance of our method is compared to existing approaches based on the pressure Poisson equation and work-energy relative pressure. The results demonstrate the proposed method's high accuracy, robustness to spatio-temporal subsampling, and reduced sensitivity to noise, highlighting its great potential for non-invasive pressure estimation.
A modified k-$\epsilon$ model is proposed for calculation of transitional boundary layer flows. In order to develop the eddy viscosity model for the problem, the flow is divided into three regions; namely, pre-transition region, transition region and fully turbulent region. The pre-transition eddy-viscosity is formulated by extending the mixing Length concept. In the transition region, the eddy-viscosity model employs two length scales, i.e., pre-transition length scale and turbulent length scale pertaining to the regions upstream and the downstream, respectively, and a university model of stream-wise intermittency variation is used as a function bridging the pre-transition region and the fully turbulent region. The proposed model is applied to calculate three benchmark cases of the transitional boundary layer flows with different free-stream turbulent intensity ( $1\%{\~}6\%$ ) under zero-pressure gradient. It was found that the profiles of mom velocity and turbulent intensity, local maximum of velocity fluctuations, their locations as well as the stream-wise variation of integral properties such as skin friction, shape factor and maximum velocity fluctuations are very satisfactorily Predicted throughout the flow regions.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to ascertain the effects of anesthetic information on preoperative state anxiety, plasma glucose, cortisol and epinephrine for patients under tonsillectomy and to provide generic data with anesthetic nursing intervention. Method: Data were collected from 60 patients who had tonsillectomy from November 1, 2003 to April 30, 2004. The group were divided into experimental group and control group: an experiment group of 30 patients was provided with an anesthetic information prepared by the researchers; a control group of another 30 patients was provided with general information. Data were analyzed through chi-squared test, t-test, repeated measure ANOVA using SPSS Program(version 12.0). Result: There were no significant difference between the experimental group and the control group in pre-operative state anxiety, glucose and cortisol. However, there were statistically significant difference between the above two groups in pre-operative pre-operative blood pressure(p=.001), heart beat(p=.000), and epinephrine(p=.035). Conclusion: The authors, with the results of this study, concluded that the preoperative anesthetic information for patients under tonsillectomy had direct effect on lessening pre-operative anxiety.
SiC direct bonding technology is very attractive for both SiCOI(SiC-on-insulator) electric devices and SiC-MEMS(micro electro mechanical system) fields because of its application possibility in harsh environments. This paper presents pre-bonding techniques with variation of HF pre-treatment conditions for 2 inch SiC wafer direct bonding using PECVD(plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition) oxide. The PECVD oxide was characterized by XPS(X-ray photoelectron spectrometer) and AFM(atomic force microscopy). The characteristics of the bonded sample were measured under different bonding conditions of HF concentration and an applied pressure. The bonding strength was evaluated by the tensile strength method. The bonded interface was analyzed by using IR camera and SEM(scanning electron microscope). Components existed in the interlayer were analyzed by using FT-IR(fourier transform infrared spectroscopy). The bonding strength was varied with HF pre-treatment conditions before the pre-bonding in the range of $5.3 kgf/cm^2$ to $15.5 kgf/cm^2$
The paper presents the heat transfer characteristics during cooling process of carbon dioxide($CO_2$) in a helically coiled tube. The main components of the apparatus consist of a receiver, a variable speed pump, a mass flowmeter, a pre-heater, a gas cooler(test section) and an isothermal tank. The test section with the inner diameter 4.55 [mm] is a tube in tube type heat exchanger with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and water flowing in the annulus. The main results were summarized as follows : The heat transfer coefficient increases with respect to the decrease of the gas cooler pressure in a supercritical region and the increase of the refrigerant mass flux. The pressure drop decreases in increases of the gas cooler pressure and increases with respect to increases the refrigerant mass flux.
The popcorn cracking phenomena in plastic IC packages during reflow soldering are investigated by considering the heat transfer and moisture diffusion through the epoxy molding compound(EMC) along with the mechanics of interface delamination. Heat transfer and moisture diffusion through EMC under die pad are analyzed by finite difference method (FDM)during the pre-conditioning and subsequent reflow soldiering pro-cess and the amounts of moisture mass and vapor pressure at delaminated die pad/ EMC interface are calculated as a function of the reflow soldering time. The energy release rate stress intensity factor and phase angle were obtained under various loading conditions which are thermal crack face vapor pressure and mixed loadings. It was shown that thermal loading was the main driving force for the crack propagation for small crack lengths but vapor pressure loading played more significant role as crack grew.
In micro-channels, the electro-viscous effect is caused by the electrical double layer on pressure-driven liquid flow. Velocity fields of flow inside micro-channels were measured using micro-PIV system for investigating the electro-viscous effect. De-ionized water and aqueous NaCl solutions with four different concentrations were used as working fluid in a PDMS micro-channel of $100{\mu}m$ width and $66{\mu}m$ height. The pressure gradient, dP/dx, was determined from the pre-determined input flow rate Q of syringe pump. The mean velocity $u_m$ used for calculating Reynolds number was obtained from the PIV velocity field data. These are used to plot the pressure gradient as a function of Reynolds numbers. The pressure gradient far lower concentration solution $(10^{-5}\;M)$ was higher than that for the higher concentration solution. The increase of flow resistance was about $30\%\;and\;37.5\%$ at Re=0.02 and 0.06, respectively.
