For the biological control of the root-lesion nematodes, Pratylenchus spp., which damage directly and indirectly to the leaf perilla, the nematical effect of three nematode-trapping fungi, Arthrobotrys oligospora, A. conoides and A. dactyloides was evaluated in the field. Three species of Arthrobotrys were isolated from the culture soil of leaf perilla in 1998 and were observed the capture of the root-lesion nematodes, Pratylenchus spp. by adhesive hyphal networks or constricting rings on agar. At 40 days after treatment, the plant-parasitic nematodes and root-lesion nematode populations were approximately increased 3.5 fold in untreated control plot, while the nematode population in fungi treatment plots was similar to initial population. In the A. dactyloides plot, however, the population of plant-parasitic nematodes and Pratylenchus spp. was approximately reduced 65% and 53%, respectively. Thus, the fungus A. dachyloides should provide as biological agent for the control of Pratylenchus spp.
We identified the five root-lesion nematode species, Pratylenchus crenatus, P. fallax, P. kumamotoensis, P. panamaensis and P. penetrans from intercepted in quarantine inspection over the past five years. Their diagnostic characters are including number of lip annuli, stylet length, shape of the labial region, presence or absence of males, structure of lateral fields, shape of spermatheca, length of the post-vulval uterine sac and shape of tail and so forth. We described the photos, measurements and morphological characters.
Survey on potato parasitic nematodes has been undertaken in order to find distribution of the nemic fauna. 41 soil samples were taken from potato fields in Gyeongbug, Gyeongnam and Gangweon provinces. Twenty four species belonging to 16 different genera were identified. Potato cyst nematode, Globodera rostochiensis was not found in the areas. Potato-rot nematode, Ditylenchus destructor and stem nematode, Ditylenchus dipsaci were found from several potato fields and population density high and showed damage to the crops. Root-lesion nematode, Pratylenchus minyus, Pratylenchus penetrans, Pratytenchus thornei and Pratylenchus vulnus were found and their population of these four species were high depending on the fields. Root-knot nematode, Meloidogyne hapla and Meloidogyne incognita were found. M. hapla was found only in Gangweon province and the population density was high. M. incognita was found at Milyang in Gyeongnam province. To survey the incidence of plant-parasitic nematode in strawberry nursery, 117 soil samples were collected from main producing area of strawberry nursery plants in 2016. The incidences of two major problematic nematodes such as root-lesion nematodes (Pratylenchus spp.) and root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.) were 11% and 3%, respectively. Strawberry nurseries using upland soil either in fields or in plastic-houses showed were higher infection rates of Pratylenchus spp. or Meloidogyne spp. than others. On the other hand, a strawberry nursery using pots filled with bed soil in plastic-house was the lowest infection rate with 0%. Phylogenetic relationships and distance analysis were performed for identification of Pratylenchus spp. and Meloidogyne spp. detected from strawberry nurseries. As the results, they were identified as Pratylenchus penetrans, Pratylenchus vulnus and Meloidogyne hapla. Meanwhile, when nursery plants of strawberry infested with P. vulnus transplanted to pots filled with sterilized soil, P. vulnus was detected from soil in pots as 33% frequency. Thus, P. vulnus can be spread through nursery plants of strawberry infested with that. These studies suggested that Pratylenchus spp. and Meloidogyne spp. were ploblematic nematodes in major areas of strawberry nursery plants and P. vulnus could be spread through nursery plants of strawberry.

Pratylenchus loosi Loof, 1960 is recorded for the first time from Korea. The nematode was isolated from the roots of tea (Thea sinensis L.) and soil around the roots from Yeongam-gun, Jeo-llanam-do and Namjeju-gun, Jeju-do, Korea. This species has two lip annuli. The female is 433-646 $\mu\textrm{m}$ long: a= 29.1-37.5, b = 5.1-6.4, c = 15.0-21.3, vulva(%) = 73.0-85.4. The male body length is 408-512$\mu\textrm{m}$ long: a=36.1-40.0, b=4.8-6.7, c =17.0-19.0, and spicule = 14.1-18.0 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The stylet is 11.6-18.0 $\mu\textrm{m}$ long and the number of incisures is four. The shape of spermatheca filled with sperm is broadly rounded, oval and quadrangular The shape of tail is narrowly round to subacute.
This study were conducted to assess plantparasitic nematodes infesting Codonopsis lanceolata. Ten kinds of plantparasitic nematode gem including Meloidogyne and Pratylenchus were identified in 34 localities of C. lanceolata fields in three provinces in Korea. Meloidogyne, a dominant genus, was found in 97% localities and showed high average density as 1,700 nematodes per 300$m\ell$ soil. Its average density was 10 times higher in upland field than in paddy field.
A survey was conducted to find out the major plant parasitic nematode in Chrysanthemum morifolium fields in Korea from May to June in 2005. A genus of Pratylenchus was determined as the most important plant parasitic nematode based on analysis of total 50 samples from 8 cities of chrysanthemum field. Pratylenchus showed 86% occurrence rate and average numbered 1,095 per 200cc soils and 1g root. Five Pratylenchus isolates, 'Muan', 'Masan', 'Tean', 'Gumi', 'Jeongup', were selected for the molecular identification of the species of Pratylenchus, and ITS and D3-28S ribosomal DNA were amplified by PCR. For the ITS, only 'Muan' isolate was differentiated by total 1 kb PCR amplification, which was 200 bp larger than all the other isolates. There was no size variation in amplified D3-28S rDNA and all isolate represented approximately 320 bp of PCR product. Sequence data of D3-28S rDNA were analysed by MegAlign program in DNASTAR software and phylogenetic tree was constructed. Sequence homology was 100% between 'Gumi' isolate and 'Tean' isolate and 'Jeongup' isolate was also close to these isolates by 99.7% sequence homology. 'Gumi', 'Tean' group and 'Jeongup' isolate were determined to be closely related to Pratylenchus vulnus by 96.7% and 96.3% similarity in respectively. D3 sequence of 'Masan' isolate was 100% identical to P. penetrans, and 'Muan' isolate showed 99.7% similarity to P. brachyurus. This result was congruent with the branch divergence pattern shown in phylogenetic tree.

Perilla plant is a special crop that is used as oilseed and food in Korea. Root lesion nematodes have caused great damage to perilla plants, so for effective management of root lesion nematodes, it is necessary to understand their ecology in perilla. In this study, we investigated the effect of temperature in the development of Pratylenchus penetrans (Pp) and Pratylenchus vulnus (Pv) when the nematodes infected the perilla plant. To estimate the effect of temperature, we assessed the reproduction factor (RF); final population/initial population(Pf/Pi) of these two nematode species. We used perilla plants as inoculated hosts and investigated the density of nematodes at 10 weeks after inoculation. As a result, the RF of Pp was highest at 20℃ (0.41 (1st test), 2.2 (2nd test)) followed by 25, 30, and 15℃. The RF of Pv was highest at 30℃(9.84 (1st test), 31.39 (2nd test)), followed by 25, 20, and 15℃. Comparing the RF by temperature between Pp and Pv, Pv was higher than Pp at all temperatures used in the test. This study showed the optimal development temperature of Pp was 20-25℃ and Pv was 30℃, respectively.
Root-lesion nematode (Pratylenchus vulnus) and pin nematode (Paratylenchus sp.) were detected with high population density at the spray chrysanthemum greenhouse in Gumi, Gyeongbuk. The average density of P. vulnus and Paratylenchus sp. was 667 and 716 nematodes per 100 g soil and P. vulnus density were distributed 87% to the depth of $0{\sim}30$ cm in greenhouse. When spray chrysanthemum cv Chopin, was transplanted in September 2004 in greenhouse, P. vulnus were 854 nematodes/100 g soil in planting and increased 14,985 nematodes/100 g soils and 1g root after 10 weeks in harvest. Shoot weight and shoot height of spray chrysanthemum decreased 24.8% and 8.0% compared with non-infested P. vulnus after 10 weeks in greenhouse.
