  • Objective: Two control rooms of a petroleum complex were ergonomically evaluated for this study using diverse drawings of the rooms. The objective of the study is to show the evaluation process and its results, assessment method and essential elements for drawing-based ergonomic evaluation. Background: Ergonomics can enhance the working environment and safety for a control room when implemented effectively. A control room design was examined by ergonomists based on ergonomic principles and well-practiced standards. This study was conducted because a construction consortium wanted to perform an ergonomic evaluation of the control rooms before the construction. Method: A simple evaluation process, composed with a pre-evaluation, an evaluation and a post-evaluation, was employed to carry out the study. ISO 11064, NUREG-0700, NUREG/CR-6150, and CRIOP were reviewed to evaluate the control rooms. The assessment ranges over the control room layout, workstations, display and control, environmental requirements and safety. Three ergonomists participated in the study and performed the evaluation for two months. Results: An experienced consortium of construction companies designed the petroleum complex and control rooms. No significant ergonomic design problems were detected. Quantitative recommendations were provided for the layout and workstation dimensions. Specific design directions were also proposed for environmental requirements and safety. Conclusion and Application: Design advice and minor potential problems were reported as results of the drawing-based ergonomic evaluation. More practical suggestions could be additionally provided if an on-site assessment was conducted. However, the ergonomic evaluation used in this study could be helpful and applied to designing and evaluating other various control rooms prior to their construction.

  • On-line education is activated in many knowledge domains and institutions, the effectiveness is under the question. Even though the role of e-moderator for on-line course is very important, but this role has been abandoned both by instructor and course administrator. On the other hand, open source solutions have made it possible to implement on-line for free of charge, but not many people know how to use it. This paper describes how to install open source on-line learning environment and how to administrate learning by being a good e-moderator. Moodle is selected as an implementing LMS(Learning Management System). The environment is installed and serving well for teaching two engineering education subjects: JAVA and Electrical Machines. The practical tips for installment and administration are presented with examples.

  • The insurance payment plan for dental implants in Korea has been criticized because the payment priority has not been properly established, and the benefits are concentrated among middle-class citizens. In the current study, the relationship between the oral health condition and socioeconomic status of the elderly was analyzed using data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). This study aims to determine the reason underlying the criticism of the insurance payment plan. The subjects were >65-year-old individuals in the 2010 and 2011 database of KNHANES. Data from 2,812 subjects were analyzed. The socioeconomic status was determined based on edentulousness, molar tooth loss, and presence of 28 teeth. According to the analysis, the average income was 1,560,000 won for edentulous elderly, 1,811,000 won for elderly who had lost molar teeth, and 1,896,000 won for elderly with 28 teeth (p<0.05). In addition, elderly with a low education level demonstrated a poor oral health condition (p<0.001). In conclusion, the insurance plan currently under examination is not properly designed for economically impoverished elderly because the plan only covers 50% of the costs and is limited to implantation of molar teeth only. This plan will not provide practical benefits to elderly with a poor socioeconomic status; therefore, the insurance payment plan needs to be improved so that the appropriate beneficiaries can be targeted.

  • As recent buildings have been enlarged and free-formed, it is hard to represent three-dimensional buildings with two-dimensional drawings and identify design errors, construction errors, difference of construction quantity and construction cost, clash with columns, beams, pipe machinery, and so on. In order to overcome the limitations, BIM(Building Information Modeling) has been used in construction industry. However, BIM in the construction site is not fully facilitated after practical implementation in process control including training, evaluation and analysis of the process. Therefore, in this study, the effect of BIM applied in the construction site is analyzed empirically throughout the survey at the construction site in accordance with the training, evaluation, and implementation of BIM.

  • Present private infrastructure investment in SOC investment has increased up to $11\%$ compared to the year 2003 and it is expected to increase in the future. In spite of its rapid increasement we don't have definite standard or system on distinctly presented rate of return for domestic private infrastructure investment yet, and practical and scientific research is not sufficient, compared to its necessity and importance. Hence, in this study we tried to build theories systematically, which are related to rate of return of private infrastructure investment to promote SOC private infrastructure investment to last successfully and present the proper level of rate of return of private infrastructure we investment appropriate in domestic situations through diverse analysis. Therefore, to present reasonable rate of return, we used 5 methods: existing research analysis, case study, financial index analysis, analysis of investors rate of return, and analysis of rate of return in a real estate market. After comparing and analyzing these methods, Ive presented in the end the appropriate level of rate of return of private infrastructure investment, which can be applied in a domestic market.

  • Recently, the cost of construction projects has escalated due to a significant increase in size and complexity. Many construction projects have failed to meet their originally intended project deadline due to various factors such as weather, labor supply, equipment, procurement, accidents, etc. Consequently, emergency construction work scenario has to be implemented in order to shorten the duration and satisfy the original estimated schedule. However, many critical decisions in emergency scenario rely solely on the experience of a construction manager. Thus, this paper proposes TCTO optimization model to decide the most effective alternative out of various working scenarios which are generated by the combination of work group and work time. The developed TCTO model provides the optimum schedule that satisfies the practical constraints. Future research could involve the integration of resource leveling with the proposed model. This would make the model more versatile.
