  • A design methodology for transformers including integrated and center-tapped structures for LLC resonant converters is proposed. In the LLC resonant converter, the resonant inductor in the primary side can be merged in the transformer as a leakage inductance. And, the absence of the secondary filter inductor creates low voltage stress on the secondary rectifiers and is cost-effective. A center-tapped structure of the transformer secondary side is widely used in commercial applications because of its higher efficiency and lower cost than full-bridge structures in the rectifying stages. However, this transformer structure has problems of resonance imbalance and transformer inefficiency caused by leakage inductance imbalance in the secondary side and the position of the air-gap in the transformer, respectively. In this paper, gain curves and soft-switching conditions are derived by first harmonic approximation (FHA) and operating circuit simulation. In addition, the effects of the transformer including integrated and center-tapped structures are analyzed by new FHA models and simulations to obtain an optimal design. Finally, the effects of the air-gap position are analyzed by an electromagnetic field simulator. The proposed analysis and design are verified by experimental results with a 385W LLC resonant converter.

  • In this paper we investigated the structural dielectric and piezoelectric properties of 0.03Pb(Sb$\_$1/2//Nb$\_$1/2/)-0.97Pb(Zr$\_$0.495//Ti$\_$0.505/)O$_3$+0.5 wt% excess PbO + wt% MnO(X=0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7) ceramics to develop the high-power piezoelectric transformer. The piezoelectric transformers with dimension of 27.5$\times$27.5$\times$2.5[mm$^3$]were fabricated and their electrical properties were measured. Maxima of piezoelectric properties such as electro-mechanical coupling factor of 0.534 and mechanical quality factor of 1487 were obtained for the PSN-PZT with 0.3wt% MnO. voltage step-up ratios of piezoelectric transformers at 500[Ω]and no load were 0.78, 12.82, respectively. The maximum efficiency of piezoelectric transformer was 98.6% at 800[Ω]. While the 14W fluorescent lamp were driven by the piezoelectric transformer for more than 20[min], increment of temperature in the piezoelectric transformer was 7[$\^{C}$].

  • DGA(Dissolved Gas Analysis) is regularly performed to detect internal defects of power transformers and prevent failures. The overheating or discharging in the transformer can be confirmed by DGA but the defective parts should be identified by internal inspection. However, winding or iron core defects cannot be checked by internal inspection, so it is impossible to establish actions by DGA alone. In this paper, the internal defect mode is analyzed and presented based on the transformer internal inspection reports, and the internal defect can be predicted by considering DGA.

  • LCD needs a backlight that is a light source as a photodetector that has a light modulation function and CCFL is used usually. Inverter that composes using existent winding transformer operates multi lamps, however, this efficiency falls by losses of core or winding and volume or weight increases or there is danger of fire by overheating. In order to solve these problems, a multi lamp driving Inverter using PT is composed according to the design guideline in this paper. We conformed whether the multi lamp drive method using EEFL that a current burden is less in applicable to piezoelectric inverter, and used the method that connect two piezoelectric transformers by parallel to an inverter.

  • In this paper, the voltage measurement-based coordinated Voltage/VAR control (VMCVVC) algorithm for conservation voltage reduction(CVR) is proposed. The proposed algorithm has the purpose of enhancing the CVR effect through coordinated control of the voltage control devices such as the distributed energy resources and the load tap changer(LTC) transformers. It calculates the references of the voltage control devices such that the bus voltages are maintained at as close to the lower operation limit as possible. For this purpose, firstly, the distribution system is divided into LTC transformer control zones through topological search. Secondly, the reactive power references of the reactive power control devices are determined such that the voltage profile of the section is flattened. Finally, the tap references of the LTC transformers are calculated to lower the voltage profile. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated through case studies using IEEE test network.

  • The energization of high voltage transmission lines and transformers, that is an inevitable process in most countries as the first restorative action for wide-area blackout, may induce overvoltages such as sustained overvoltage, transient overvoltage and harmonic resonant overvoltage. And these may cause damages to power system equipments or failure of surge arresters. The harmonic resonant overvoltage originates in switching operations and nonlinear characteristics of equipments. Actually it is difficult to predict the occurrence of harmonic overvoltage, since they result from nonlinear characteristics of transformers and other equipments. This paper describes the analysis of domestic primary restorative transmission system using PSCAD/EMTDC. The harmonic resonance is verified and the solution to prevent harmonic resonance is proposed in this paper. As a result, the PSCAD/EMTBC simulation showed slightly conflictive results that had been presented by IEEE Power System Restoration Working Group report.

  • This paper describes a development of the temporary transformer system and method. The failure causes are genrally divided into problems in manufacturing, mounting and operating. To replace the bum-out pole transformers developed various facilities, power cable clamp, the control panel of self-sensing device and voltage connection box etc. That is more effective to establish the emergency transmission systems for the non interruption replacement of distribution transformers.
