The electrical properties of a back drilled via-hole (BDH) without the open-stub and the plated through via-hole (PTH) with the open-stub, which is called the conventional structure, in a high-count multi~layered (HCML) printed circuit board (PCB) were investigated for a high-speed digital system, and a selected inner layer to transmit a high-speed signal was farthest away from the side to mount the component. Within 10 GHz of the broadband frequency, a design of experiment (DOE) methodology was carried out with three cause factors of each via-hole structure, which were the distance between the via-holes, the dimensions of drilling pad and the anti-pad in the ground plane, and then the relation between cause and result factors which were the maximum return loss, the half-power frequency, and the minimum insertion loss was analyzed. Subsequently, the empirical formulae resulting in a macro model were extracted and compared with the experiment results. Even, out of the cause range, the calculated results obtained from the macro model can be also matched with the measured results within 5 % of the error.
This paper proposes a phase measurement algorithm which is based on the recursive implementation of sliding-DFT. The algorithm is designed to have a robust behavior against the erroneous factors of frequency drift, additive noise, and twiddle factor approximation. The size of phase error caused by the finite wordlength implementation of DFT twiddle factors is shown significantly lower than that of magnitude error. The drastic reduction of the phase error is achieved by the exploitation of the quadruplet symmetry characteristics of the approximated twiddle factors in the complex plane. Four channel power-line phase measurement system is also designed and implemented based on the time-multiplexed sharing architecture of the proposed algorithm. The operation of the developed system is also verified by the experiment performed under the test environment implemented with the multi-channel function generator and the on-line interfaced host processor system. The proposed algorithm's features of phase measurement accuracy and its robustness against the finite wordlength effects can provide a significant impact especially for the ASIC or microprocessor based embedded system applications where the enhanced processing speed and implementation simplicity are crucial design considerations.
In this paper, a shear deformation plate theory based on neutral surface position is developed for free vibration analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) plates. The material properties of the FGM plates are assumed to vary through the thickness of the plate by a simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. During manufacture, defects such as porosities can appear. It is therefore necessary to consider the vibration behavior of FG plates having porosities in this investigation. The proposed theory is based on assumption that the in-plane and transverse displacements consist of bending and shear components, in which the bending components do not contribute toward shear forces and, likewise, the shear components do not contribute toward bending moments. The neutral surface position for a functionally graded plate which its material properties vary in the thickness direction is determined. The equation of motion for FG rectangular plates is obtained through Hamilton's principle. The closed form solutions are obtained by using Navier technique, and then fundamental frequencies are found by solving the results of eigenvalue problems. Numerical results are presented and the influences of the volume fraction index and porosity volume fraction on frequencies of FGM plates are clearly discussed.
We have developed a position-sensitive Parallel Plate Avalanche Counter (PPAC) to detect the fission fragments and reconstruct the fission reaction plane in the experiment of studying nuclear equation of state (nEOS) by means of heavy ion collision (HIC). This experiment put forward high requirements for the performances of PPAC, such as the time resolution, efficiency and position resolution. According to these requirements we designed the PPAC with an active area of 240 mm × 280 mm working at low gas pressure. The results show that time resolution could be less than 300 ps. Position resolution is consistent with the theoretical calculation about 1.35 mm. Detection efficiency could be approaching 100% gradually with the voltage increasing in different gas pressures. The performances of PPAC have also been verified in beam experiment. Each set of anode wires can be accurately separated in the position spectrum. In the beam experiment, we also got the back-to-back correlation of fission fragments which is one of the direct signals characterizing binary decay.

Theoretical modelling and computational results for frequency coordination are presented over mobile base station and fixed wireless systems in urban or sub-urban area. Computational results with key parameters needed for interference analysis are performed and discussed in terms of system characteristics, propagation model, protection ratio, frequency dependent rejection, and discrimination angle with signal-interference plane. Based upon minimum coupling loss methodology, calculated interference powers of victim receiver for assumed system parameters are compared with maximum allowable interference power derived from protection ratio as functions of discrimination angle and distance including height-gain model in urban or sub-urban area. The proposed method is applicable for technical analysis on co-existence or interoperability for the various wireless systems, mandatory for frequency coordination or reallocation process.

In this paper, a novel resonator using ring type DGS is proposed for improvement of phase noise characteristics that is weak point of oscillator using planar type microstrip line resonator, and oscillator for 5.8GHz band is designed using proposed DGS resonator. The ring type DGS resonator is composed of DGS cell etched on ground plane under $50{\Omega}$ microstrip line. At the fundamental frequency of 5.8GHz, 7.6dBm output power and -82.7 dBc@100kHz phase noise have been measured for oscillator with ring type DGS resonator. The phase noise characteristics of oscillator is improved about 9.5dB compared to one using the general ${\lambda}/4$ microstrip resonator. Because it is possible that varactor diode or lumped capacitor is placed on the gaps of ring type DGS, resonant frequency can be controlled by bias voltage. We can design voltage controlled oscillator using proposed ring type DGS resonator. Thus, due to its simple fabrication process and planar type, it is expected that the technique in this paper can be widely used for low phase noise oscillators for both MIC and MMIC applications.

In this paper, we propose the structure of a dual polarized system for a wireless communication. The proposed dual polarized antenna is formed by one vertical antenna and two horizontal antennas that are orthogonal to each other. Vertical and horizontal polarized antennas transmit different signals, but two orthogonal horizontal polarized antennas transmit the same data signals. So, the signals of the proposed dual polarized system construct two dual-polarization planes. And, only one dual-polarization plane with a large signal power is selected at the side of a receiver. The simulation results show that the proposed dual polarized system could obtain a higher capacity compared to an ordinary $2{\times}2$ MIMO (Multi-input Multi-output) system.
In this paper, an omnidirectional visible light detector was developed by making the detecting surface of a flexible solar cell in a cylindrical form, which has a uniform receiving pattern in the horizontal plane. This solar cell detector receives simultaneously multiple signal lights incident from different directions and provides electrical power to the ASK demodulator in the receiver. In experiments, time division transmission method was used to receive three signal lights incident from different directions to the solar cell detector. Each signal light was ASK modulated using a carrier of 40 kHz, and the synchronizing pulses required for time division transmission were generated by detecting the 120 Hz AC signal included in the indoor illumination lamp with Cds cells. This receiving structure is useful in constructing an $N{\times}1$ optical link in visible light communication.

This paper introduces a high-efficiency, high-gain, broadband quasi-Yagi antenna, and its four-element array for use in 60-GHz wireless communications. The antenna was fed by a microstrip-to-slotline transition consisting of a curved microstripline and a circular slot to allow broadband characteristics. A corrugated ground plane was employed as a reflector to improve the gains in the low-frequency region of the operation bandwidth, and consequently, to reduce variation. The single antenna yielded an impedance bandwidth of 49 to 69 GHz for $|S_{11}|$ <-10dB and a gain of >12.0 dBi while the array exhibited a bandwidth of 52 to 68 GHz and a gain greater than 15.0 dBi. Both proposed designs had small gain variations (${\pm}0.5$ dBi) and high radiation efficiency (>95%) in the 60-GHz bands. The features of the proposed antenna were validated by designing, fabricating, and testing a scaled-up configuration of the single antenna at the 15-GHz band. The measurements resulted in an impedance bandwidth of 13.0 to 17.5 GHz for $|S_{11}|$ <-10dB, a gain of 10.1 to 13.2 dBi, and radiation efficiency in excess of 88% within this bandwidth. Additionally, the 15-GHz antenna yielded quite symmetric radiation profiles in both E- and H-planes, with a high front-to-back ratio.

In railway tunnel environment, the reliability of a high-data-rate and real-time train-to-wayside communication should be maintained especially when high-speed train moves along the track. In China and Europe, the communication frequency around 900 MHz is widely used for railway applications. At this carrier frequency band, both of the solutions based on continuously laid leaky coaxial cable (LCX) and discretely installed base-station antennas (BSAs), are applied in tunnel radio coverage. Many available works have concentrated on the radio-wave propagation in tunnels by different kinds of prediction models. Most of them solve this problem as natural propagation in a relatively large hollow waveguide, by neglecting the transmitting/receiving (Tx/Rx) components. However, within such confined areas like railway tunnels especially loaded with train, the complex communication environment becomes an important factor that would affect the quality of the signal transmission. This paper will apply a full-wave numerical method to this case, for considering the BSA or LCX, train antennas and their interacted environments, such as the locomotive body, overhead line for power supply, locomotive pantograph, steel rails, ballastless track, tunnel walls, etc.. Involving finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method and uni-axial anisotropic perfectly matched layer (UPML) technique, the entire wireless RF downlinks of BSA and LCX to tunnel space to train antenna are precisely modeled (so-called integrative modeling technique, IMT). When exciting the BSA and LCX separately, the field distributions of some cross-sections in a rectangular tunnel are presented. It can be found that the influence of the locomotive body and other tunnel environments is very significant. The field coverage on the locomotive roof plane where the train antennas mounted, seems more homogenous when the side-laying position of the BSA or LCX is much higher. Also, much smoother field coverage solution is achieved by choosing LCX for its characteristic of more homogenous electromagnetic wave radiation.
