As the electrical power industry is restructured, the electrical power exchange is becoming extended. One of the key information used to determine how much power can be transferred through the network is known as available transfer capability (ATC). To calculate ATC, traditional deterministic approach is based on the severest case, but the approach has the complexity of procedure. Therefore, novel approach for ATC calculation is proposed using cost-optimization method, well-being method and risk-benefit method in this paper. This paper proposes the optimal transfer capability of HVDC system between mainland and a separated island in Korea through these three methods. These methods will consider production cost, wheeling charge through HVDC system and outage cost with one depth (N-1 contingency).

To supply for increasing demand, the supply of HVDC system must be increased. This paper proposed the optimal transfer capability of HVDC system between Haenam in mainland and Cheju in Chju Island through cost optimization. The cost optimization is considered production cost in Cheju Island, wheeling charge through Haenam-Cheju HVDC system and outage cost with one depth (N-1 contingency)
This paper describes a novel approach for allocating transmission costs among users of transmission services. In the suggested approach, the cost share of each participant is proportional to amount of its line flow. To develop individual user's impact, the line utilization factors of each participant are derived by power flow equations of all nodes (i.e., load-flow equations). To deal With the slack bus problem inherent in the conventional load-flow analysis more practically, a additional power supply/demand balance equation is incorporated. Although the developed allocation rule is basically similar to the existing MW-mile method in the aspect of embedded cost allocation, it does not require to get load flow solutions of each wheeling transaction when multiple transmission transactions are considered.
In order to improve the output efficiency of solar cells and to extend the life span of batteries, the input currents of converters are required to be continuous. If low output voltage ripple is required at the same time, it is obvious that the application of basic two-order converters (such as Buck and Boost derived converters) will not be good enough. In this paper, a lot of non-isolated push-pull converters (NIPPCs) with continuous current will be introduced due to their lower current stress, higher efficiency and better EMC performance. By decomposing the converters into push-pull cells, inductor and free-wheeling diodes, two families of NIPPCs based on single inductor and coupled inductor separately are systematically generated. Furthermore, characteristics analyses for some of the generated converters are also shown in this paper. Finally, two prototypes based on the corresponding typical topologies are built in the lab to verify the theoretical outcomes.
T-type isolated DC/DC converters have recently attracted attention due to their numerous advantages, including few components, low cost, and symmetrical operation of transformers. This study proposes an improved control strategy for increasing the efficiency of T-type isolated DC/DC converters. Under the proposed strategy, the primary circulating current flows through the auxiliary switches (metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors) instead of their body diodes in free-wheeling periods. Such feature can reduce conduction losses, thereby improving the efficiency of T-type isolated DC/DC converters. The operation principles and performances of T-type isolated DC/DC converters under the proposed control strategy are analyzed in detail and verified through the simulation and experimental results.

The basic design structure of RC-GCTs (Reserve-Conducting Gate-Commutated Thyristors) is firstly given in this paper. The bulk of wafer is punch-through (PT) type with high resistivity and narrow N-base width. The photo-mask was designed upon the turn-off characteristics of GCT and solution of separation between GCT and diode part. The center part of Si wafer is free-wheeling diode (FWD) and outer is GCT part which has 240 fingers totally. The switching performance of GCT was investigated by Dessis of ISE. The basic manufacture process of 2500V-4500V RC-GCTs was given in this work. Additionally, the local carrier lifetime control by 5Mev proton irradiation was adopted so as to not only to have the softness of reverse recovering for FWD but for reduction of turn-off losses of GCT as well.
