  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate search efficiency of controlled vocabulary versus uncontrolled vocabulary subject access in online catalog systems. The question of the effectiveness of controlled versus uncontrolled vocabulary in information retrieval has been raised in many literatures. A debate continues in the Library and Information Science Professions over the relative merit, appropriateness, and efficiency of uncontrolled vocabulary subject access in online catalog systems. Actually users used to combine uncontrolled vocabulary subject searching with controlled vocabulary subject searching. But the success of user's subject search depends on his choice of search terms. Also the technical developments that facilitate cooperation among information services in general make it increasingly possible for such cooperation to take place on an international level. In this study, several common types of vocabularies on online catalog systems are described and compared, especially usages of vocabularies in multilingual environment are analyzed.

  • Cerebral palsy children represent abnormal vocalization pattern caused by respiration problem and paralyzed oral motor muscle that are the basics of speech production. Thus, this study examined the effect of respiration and articulator training programs on the basic ability of speech production in CP children. The subjects of this study were 4 children with 3 of spastic CP and 1 of ataxia CP. The respiration and articulator program was conducted in 30 sessions for 30 minutes each. Pre-test was administered twice before the program, ongoing test was administered every 5 session during the period of experiment, and post-test was administered twice. The program included speech production such as respiration training, lips, jaw, cheek, and tongue exercise, and velopharyngeal training, and related articulator training. The following results were obtained. First, all subject children were less than 5 seconds in maximum phonation time before the experiment and 2 were improved by more than 4$\sim$5 seconds during the experiment, but 2 had relatively low rising width. Second, while children with less than 30dB before the experiment became bigger in strength during the experiment, children with more than 35dB before the experiment showed a minor change. Subject child 4 had lower vocal strength in the post-test period. Finally, although each subject had individual difference in syllable diadochokinetic ability, the function was improved and the number of repetition in one respiration was also increased.

  • If the C++ programming class, an object-oriented language capable of modeling similar to the real world, is developed as a curriculum that introduces the flipped learning model, students' active problem-solving skills can be cultivated. In this subject development case, it is significant that the flipped learning technique was applied to the programming class and was effective in improving students' active problem-solving skills. First, the lectures in the 4th session were divided into Pre-Class, In-Class, and Post-Class, and the class was conducted in a way that suggested class goals suitable for the subject and formed a team to discuss. At the end of the lecture, a follow-up survey was conducted to check whether the learners learned effectively.

  • This paper presents a Strut-and-Tie Model for reinforced concrete (RC) columns subject to lateral loading. The proposed model is based on the loading path for the post-yield state, and the geometries of struts and tie are determined by the stress field of post-yield state. The analysis procedure of the Strut-and-Tie Model is that 1) the shear force and displacement at the initial yield state are calculated and 2) the relationship between the additional shear force and the deformation is determined by modifying the geometry of the longitudinal strut until the ultimate limit state. To validate the developed model, the ultimate strength and associated deformation obtained by experimental results are compared with the values predicted by the model. Good agreements between the proposed model and the experimental data are observed.

  • This essay reconsiders the subject of Romantic self-consciousness in a post-de Manian perspective. Self-consciousness is an attribute of Romantic lyricism whereby the poetic speaker I remains conscious of how (s)he feels or lives here and now. This self-reflective feature of Romantic poetry has been controversially interpreted either as self-centered solipsism or as self-expressive objectivism. The question is stirring more disputes among Romantic critics after the advent of New Historicism and Feminism. These two historicistic approaches reprove Romantic poetry for a lack of the sense of history and ascribes it to Romantic self-consciousness. They argue that Romantic poets in general displace historical materiality into an object of internal consciousness, so negating absurd social realities "merely to gain their own immortal soul." This essay targets to overcome this negative stance on Romantic self-consciousness with a "subversive" return to Paul de Man's criticism of Romantic internality.

  • Purpose : To evaluate the effects of elastic resistance exercise of lumbo-pelvic region and upper limbs muscle on equilibrium ability and shoulder pain of the elderly. Methods : The subject consisted of sixteen healthy elderly people(14 females. 2 males). They were from 61 to 83 years old and the mean age was 68.06. All subjects were assigned only the elastic resistance exercise group. The subject group received elastic resistance exercise for about 60 minutes per day, two times per weeks, during 8 weeks period. A Stop watch was used to measure static equilibrium ability and dynamic equilibrium ability and then pressure algometer was used to measure shoulder press pain threshold. All measurements of each subjects were measured at pre-experiment and post-experiment stage. SPSS 12.0 program was used to compile results. A Paired samples t-test was conducted to examine changes of static equilibrium, dynamic equilibrium and shoulder press pain threshold between pre-experiment and post-experiment. Results : The static equilibrium ability, dynamic equilibrium ability and shoulder press pain threshold were significantly differences between pre-experiment and post-experiment(p<.05). Conclusion : This data suggests that an eight week elastic resistance exercise improved static equilibrium ability and dynamic equilibrium ability and then reduced shoulder pain.

  • In this study a hybrid safety barrier system consisting of steel rail and carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) post is considered. W hile CFRP post is selected for impact energy reflection due to its high strength, steel rail is selected for impact energy absorption due to its high ductility. A numerical model considering the elastoplastic behavior of steel is formulated to simulate the dynamic responses of the hybrid system subject to an impact load. A hybrid roadside guard rail system of steel rail and CFRP post is proposed and analyzed with a case study. The numerical model for the hybrid roadside guard rail system is used to find optimized design of the proposed hybrid system.

  • The objective of this report is to introduce the European Union's variation rules governing medicinal products that are subject to post-approval changes. The EMEA outlines a variety of changes occurring to approved medicinal products. It also recommends a marketing authorisation holder to follow specific post-approval applications in various situations. For instance, the Commission Regulation(EC) No. 1085/2003 explains variation types and suggests post-authorisation procedures with which an applicant should comply. In all cases of minor and major variations the applicant has to investigate and validate whether or not the intended changes would have impact on the safety, efficacy and quality of a drug product. The applicant should then submit to the EMEA a variation application with adequate documentation in support of the notified changes. This procedure is implemented to ensure that changes to the approved medicinal product do not cause my public health concerns. In fact, the post-authorisation guidance categorizes post-approval changes into type IA/IB variations, type II variations, and extension applications. Such classifications determine administrative procedures to be followed in an efficient manner. Based on the type of a variation, the regulatory agency opts to reduce or extend the evaluation time-frame. The thrust of the EU's post-authorisation guidance is introduced in text with appropriate explanation. All these information will be likely to be helpful in updating a Korean regulatory guidance that could better deal with post-approval changes to generic drugs available in the market.
