  • It is well known that solar tracking systems can increase the efficiency of exiting solar panels significantly. In this paper, a hybrid solar tracking system has been developed by using both astronomical estimates from a GPS and the image processing results of a camera vision system. A decision making process is also proposed to distinguish current weather conditions using camera images. Based on the decision making results, the proposed hybrid tracking system switches two tracking control methods. The one control method is based on astronomical estimates of the current solar position. And the other control method is based on the solar image processing result. The developed hybrid solar tracking system is implemented on an experimental platform and the performance of the developed control methods are verified.

  • In this paper, we propose a connected Korean digit recohnition system employing neural networks and lexical constraints of the Korean digits. In the proposed recognition system, firstly, each frame of digit string is labelled by phoneme classification neural networks.which are trained with the reference phoneme segments extracted form an isolated digit based on the position information. And, the frame labels are combined with each other for constructing the phoneme segments. Then, these segments are combined to form a digit candidate using the digit combination rules. The digit candidate is decided based on the condition for digit decision. If the condition is not satisfied, the digit candidate is further recognized using the digit decision neural network in the next step. In our approach, the neural networks are trained with 10 isolated digits uttered by 5 male speakers. To investigate the performance of the proposed recognition system, an intensive computer simulation on the 30 connected digit strings uttered by 5 male speakers is performed. The simulation result indicates that 95.6% digit recognition rate and 82% digit string recognition rate are provided by the proposed Korean digit recognition system.

  • Local administration is closely related with intention of residents. Especially, a plan item is closely related with life of residents. Therefore, it has to be logical and objective solution for opinion convergence. Decision of opinion has to be in a triangular position standard and stand in a trio of criteria in standard. But, opinion convergence of residents very difficult. Recently, the technique of GIS presents method for oponion convergence with logical and objective and scientifically solution. And, this study present method for decision of intention to a complex element with GRID and NETWORK techniques of GIS. This study present optimun site of constructure with the GIS technique in consideration of a side face of transportation, technical, social economy and environments.

  • Recently, most vehicles has the Automatic transmission system as their transmission system. The automatic transmission system operates with fixed shift patterns. In the opposite of manual operation, it is easy and convenient for driving. Though these merit, the system can not evaluate the driver's intension because of usage of fixed shift pattern, To consider driver's intension, we must consider both the driving intensity of driver and the status of vehicle. In this paper, we developed flexible automatic transmission system by using the proposed moduled neural networks which can learn the status of the vehicle and driver's intensity As a result, we compare the transmission system using fixed shift pattern and the proposed transmission system and show the good performance in the change of shift position.

  • This paper describes performance improvement of GPS/DR Integration system using area decision algorithm and vehicle movement information. In GPS signal blockage area, i.e., tunnel and underground parking area, DR sensor errors are accumulated and navigation solution is gradually diverged. We use the car movement information according to moving area to correct the DR sensor error. Also, vehicle movement is decided as stop, straight line, turn and movement changing region through DR sensor data analysis. The car experiment is performed to verify the supposed method. The results show that supposed method provides small position and heading error than previous method.

  • Variation of decision variables for optimal remediation using the pump-and-treat method is examined to estimate the effect of the degree of concentration constraint. Simulation-optimization method using genetic algorithm is applied to minimize the total pumping volume. In total volume minimization strategy, the remediation time increases rapidly prior to significant increase in pumping rates. When the concentration constraint is set severer, the more wells are required and the well on the down-gradient direction from the plume hot-spot gives more efficient remediation performance than that on the hot-spot position. These results show that the more profitable strategy for remediation can be achieved by increasing the required remediation time than raising the pumping rate until the time reaches a certain limitation level. So, the remediation time has to be considered as one of the essential decision variables fer optimal remediation design.

  • In this thesis, we describe a statistical method for 3D object detection. In this method, we decompose the 3D geometry of each object into a small number of viewpoints. For each viewpoint, we construct a decision rule that determines if the object is present at that specific orientation. Each decision rule uses the statistics of both object appearance and "non-object" visual appearance. We represent each set of statistics using a product of histograms. Each histogram represents the joint statistics of a subset of wavelet coefficients and their position on the object. Our approach is to use many such histograms representing a wide variety of visual attributes. Using this method, we have developed the first algorithm that can reliably detect faces that vary from frontal view to full profile view and the first algorithm that can reliably detect cars over a wide range of viewpoints.

  • This paper considers a fault accommodation problem for inertial navigation systems (INS) that have redundant inertial sensors such as gyroscopes and accelerometers. It is wellknown that the more sensors are used, the smaller the navigation error of INS is, which means that the error covariance of the position estimate becomes less. Thus, when it is decided that double faults occur in the inertial sensors due to fault detection and isolation (FDI), it is necessary to decide whether the faulty sensors should be excluded or not. A new accommodation rule for double faults is proposed based on the error covariance of triad-solution of redundant inertial sensors, which is related to the navigation accuracy of INS. The proposed accommodation rule provides decision rules to determine which sensors should be excluded among faulty sensors. Monte Carlo simulation is performed for dodecahedron configuration, in which case the proposed accommodation rule can be drawn in the decision space of the two-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system.

  • This paper proposes an effective decision method focused on evaluating the 'stress position'. Conventional methods usually extract the acoustic parameters and compare them to references in absolute scale, adversely producing unstable results as testing conditions change. To cope with environmental dependency, the proposed method is designed to be model-based and determines the stressed interval by making relative comparison over candidates. The stressed/unstressed models are then induced from normal phone models by adaptive training. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method is promising, and that it is useful for automatic detection of stress positions. The results also show that generating the stressed/unstressed model by adaptive training is effective.
