A Study on 2-Dimensional Sound Source Tracking System II (2차원적 음원추적에 관한 연구 II)

  • The whistle is a very important information source for the safety navigation under foggy weather. But navigator has no concern about this, because it must be achived by human hearing sense and considered as a vague signal. If the range and relative bearing of signal source can be detected automatically, it would be very useful system for preventing marine casualties making a lot of economic loss and environment pollution. Before the algorithm of 2-dimensional sound source tracking system was reported. This paper describes the method that can obtain the time lag between three signals and the theory of cross-correlation analysis and subtraction method for cauculating the time lag by using the digital signal data sequences. And a series of experiments were carried out for various position of sound source in the range from 200cm to 530cm. As a result, we have recognized that sound source tracking system is possible to the sea field with improvement of position error.

  • We are confronted with the serious EMI(electromagnetic interference) problems in company with the development of electronic equipments. Accordingly it is also required to construct some anechoic chambers for EMI measurement. Furthermore it is very important to evaluate the chamber characteristics in advance of its construction. For that purpose we have analyzed the characteristics by computer simulation in base on the image method, and compared the results with the measured ones. In case of 3-meter method as a result, the curved line of height pattern of open site varies similarly as that of height pattern of anechoic chamber. When we measure the electromagnetic strength and can get the height pattern curves by frequencies, we utilized it effectively because we can protect instrumental errors in measurement. On the other hand, there is a little difference in site attenuation above 700MHz. When the ferrite grid was used however, the calculated values agree well with the measured values up to 1000MHz with the exception of 30-40 MHz range. The reason is that we don't consider the antenna coupling in the low frequencies of 30-100MHz range.

  • When navigating in or near an area of restricted visibility, it is necessary to be heard the whistle, bell and/or the siren of lighthouses or ships at times. Even though we can get the brief informations about the property of sound, the direction and range of a sound radiator, it is not enough to get the accurate informations for decision making. Generally the audio frequency is known as 16~20, 000Hz, but the earshot is shorten and discrimination of sound is more difficult when there is some noise. The sound pressure is 60dB at the moment when human speaks 1 meter away. Usually the noise pressures are 40dB in a silent room and 60dB on the quiet street, respectively. It this study, the basic algorithm and a method of signal processing are suggested to trace the direction and range of the source radiator using the signals received through not a physical sense but the microphone sensors.

  • The Long Range Navigation (LORAN) had been mainly used world-wide until GPS (Global Positioning System) activation. In particular. it was essential junctionality for the ships to sail the oceans. However, according to the industry's developing, the current accuracy of Loran is insufficient for the utilization such as the harbour approach, the land navigation and the field of precise timing. Therefore it is necessary the study on the improvement of the positioning accuracy of Loran. The method of its improvement is to measure and compensate the propagation time delay, that is, additional secondary factor (ASF) between the transmitter and user's receiver. This study shows the technique for the absolute time delay measurement without a time of coincidence (TOC) table, and represents the ASF measurement result between Pohang transmitter station(9930M) and each measure points.

  • In this paper, a 5Gb/s receiver with an adaptive equalizer for serial link interfaces is proposed. For effective gain control, a least-mean-square (LMS) algorithm was implemented with two internal signals of slicers instead of output node of an equalizing filter. The scheme does not affect on a bandwidth of the equalizing filter. It also can be implemented without passive filter and it saves chip area and power consumption since two internal signals of slicers have a similar DC magnitude. The proposed adaptive equalizer can compensate up to 25dB and operate in various environments, which are 15m shield-twisted pair (STP) cable for DisplayPort and FR-4 traces for backplane. This work is implemented in $0.18-{\mu}m$ 1-poly 4-metal CMOS technology and occupies $200{\times}300{\mu}m^2$. Measurement results show only 6mW small power consumption and 2Gbps operating range with fabricated chip. The equalizer is expected to satisfy up to 5Gbps operating range if stable varactor(RF) is supported by foundry process.

ASF Measurements on Maritime by the Signal of the Pohang Loran-C (9930M) (포항 로란-C (9930M) 신호를 이용한 ASF 해상측정)

  • A significant factor limiting the ranging accuracy of Loran (Long Range Navigation) signal is the additional secondary factor (ASF) in the time of arrival (TOA) measurements. Precise ASF values are essential if Loran deliver the high absolute accuracies demanded for aircraft approach, maritime harbour entrance. We measured the absolute propagation delay between Pohang Loran signal and Loran receiver output signal by comparing with Cesium atomic clock. In this study we measured ASFs between Pohang 9930M station and the 12 measurement points in the Yeongil Bay by using the measurement technique of absolute time delay. The measurement points were spaced at interval of 3 km by 3 km. An E-field antenna and an H-field antenna were used to improve the accuracy of ASF measurements and a DGPS (Differential GPS) receiver was used for accurate positions. We have gotten the result that the measured ASFs were compared with the predicted ASFs through this measurement technique.

  • Vessels on anchoring are frequently dragged due to the increased area of wind pressure by enlargement of ship's size and sudden gust of winds in recent years. In the view point of the ship's navigators, the proper measurements corresponding to the dragging of anchor should be taken into account concerned about the time for the occurring of dragging by the external forces such as wind and wave, the pattern and speed of dragging and the possibility of collisions with any other vessels or obstacles. In this paper, it was examined the actual dragging anchor in T.S. HANBADA due to the wind and waves. From this case, it was found the critical external forces by which she was begun to dragged comparing the force by the wind, frictional resistance, drifting force and ship motion moment with the holding power. Also, through the analysis of the dragging pattern, it was known the alteration range of heading angle, swinging width and dragging speed etc.

Systematic Error Correction of Sea Surveillance Radar using AtoN Information (항로표지 정보를 이용한 해상감시레이더의 시스템 오차 보정)

  • Vessel traffic system uses multiple sea surveillance radars as a primary sensor to obtain maritime traffic information like as ship's position, speed, course. The systematic errors such as the range bias and the azimuth bias of the two-dimensional radar system can significantly degrade the accuracy of the radar image and target tracking information. Therefore, the systematic errors of the radar system should be corrected precisely in order to provide the accurate target information in the vessel traffic system. In this paper, it is proposed that the method compensates the range bias and the azimuth bias using AtoN information installed at VTS coverage. The radar measurement residual error model is derived from the standard error model of two-dimensional radar measurements and the position information of AtoN, and then the linear Kalman filter is designed for estimation of the systematic errors of the radar system. The proposed method is validated via Monte-Carlo runs. Also, the convergence characteristics of the designed filter and the accuracy of the systematic error estimates according to the number of AtoN information are analyzed.

Design of Wideband Low Pass Filter for Harmonic Suppression Applications (고조파 억제 응용을 위한 광대역 저역 통과 필터 설계)

  • In this paper, a design method for a wideband LPF for harmonic suppression applications is investigated. The proposed wideband LPF is comprised of four circular slot pairs with different diameters, which are added symmetrically in the ground plane of a CPW transmission line. Four circular slot pairs act as a defected ground structure and provide a wideband low pass characteristic. The circular slot with the smallest diameter is located at the side of port 1, and the diameter of the circular slot is increased as it goes toward port 2. The low pass characteristics of each circular slot are compared with the proposed wideband LPF. The final designed LPF was fabricated on FR4 substrate, and its characteristics were tested. The measured S11 characteristic was maintained at over -3.3 dB in the frequency range of 1.89-20.00 GHz band, whereas the S21 characteristic was less than -21.4 dB in the frequency range of 2.66-20.00 GHz.

TCAM Partitioning for High-Performance Packet Classification (고성능 패킷 분류를 위한 TCAM 분할)

  • As increasing the network bandwidth, the threat of a network also increases with emerging various new services. For a high-performance network security, It is generally used that high-speed packet classification methods which employ hardware like TCAM. There needs an method using these devices efficiently because they are expensive and their capacity is not sufficient. In this paper, we propose an efficient packet classification using a Ternary-CAM(TCAM) which is widely used device for high-speed packet classification in which we have applied Snort rule set for the well-known intrusion detection system. In order to save the size of an expensive TCAM, we have eliminated duplicated IP addresses and port numbers in the rule according to the partitioning of a table in the TCAM, and we have represented negation and range rules with reduced TCAM size. We also keep advantages of low TCAM capacity consumption and reduce the number of TCAM lookups by decreasing the TCAM partitioning using combining port numbers. According to simulation results on our TCAM partitioning, the size of a TCAM can be reduced by upto 98$\%$ and the performance does not degrade significantly for high-speed packet classification with a large amount of rules.
