Analysis for Circumstance of Maritime Transport in the Chinese northeastern three provinces towards Sustainable New Northern Policy

  • The Chinese three northeastern three provinces - Heilongjiang, Liaoning, and Jilin - hold significant geographical, geopolitical, and commercial importance due to their location allowing for cross-border trade and transportation with North Korea. These provinces are crucial for establishing a complex Eurasian logistics network in line with South Korea's new northern policy. The Chinese three northeastern three provinces, as this region is known, boasts excellent maritime transportation links between South Korea, China, and North Korea, making it an logistics hub for transporting goods to Eurasia and Europe through multimodal transport. This study highlights the importance of securing a logistics hub area by fostering cooperation and friendly relations with China's three northeastern three provinces, which are crucial to the success of the New Northern Policy. In particular, the study aims to analyze current status of trade with these region and freight volume transported by ships and recommend political advice for securing logistics hub and revitalizing maritime transport. As the policy suggestion, this study is to establish a logistics hub by implementing joint port operations, constructing port infrastructure jointly, and operating shipping companies together. Additionally, we propose ways to revitalize the maritime passenger transport business between Korea and China, which involves expanding cultural exchanges and developing content.

Research on Wave-Making Resistance Reduction Technology for Container Ships (컨테이너선의 조파저항 감소 기술에 대한 연구)

  • This paper aimed to summarize research on technologies that could efficiently reduce wave-making resistance of container ships. Tto develop wave resistance reduction technology that could be applied to container ships and use it in real ship design, hull-form optimal design was performed by applying optimization algorithms, hull-form change algorithms, ship performance prediction algorithms, automation algorithms, and iterative optimal design techniques. A computer program was also developed. To properly set design variables known to be important elements in hull-form optimal design and to efficiently set lower and upper limits of design variables, a sensitivity analysis algorithm was developed and applied to hull-form optimal design. To predict the reliability and applicability of the developed computer program for real ships, hull-form optimal design was performed for a KRISO Container Ship (KCS), a container ship with various studies conducted worldwide. Hull-form optimal design was performed at Fn=0.26, the design speed of the KCS ship. Numerical analysis was performed on the hull-form of the target ship, the KCS ship, and the hull-form of the ship derived as a result of the hull-form optimal design to determine wave resistance, wave system, and wave height. The optimal ship's wave resistance was found to be reduced by 80.60% compared to the target ship. The displacement and wetted surface area were also found to be reduced by 1.54% and 1.21%, respectively.

Experimental Study on Ventilation Efficiency of Leakage Gas Based on Supply and Exhaust Vent Location (밀폐공간에서 급·배기구 위치에 따른 누출 가스의 환기효과에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Climate change is currently one of the most pressing environmental issues, primarily caused by carbon emissions from fossil fuel usage. As a result, alternative fuels that effectively reduce carbon emissions are garnering more attention. Among these alternatives, hydrogen has numerous advantages, such as its ability for large-scale storage and transport. However, it is crucial to prioritize safety measures, particularly in facilities that handle hydrogen, due to its highly flammable and fast-spreading nature. This study aims to compare and analyze the placement of supply and exhaust vents to efficiently release hydrogen in the event of a leak in an enclosed space. The experiments involved six different scenarios, each with various combinations of supply and exhaust vents. To ensure the experimental process's safety, helium, which shares similar physical properties with hydrogen, was used to analyze the internal oxygen concentration during ventilation system operations. The results revealed that among the six scenarios, Case 2, which employed a lower side supply vent and an upper side exhaust vent, exhibited the shortest ventilation time of 4 minutes and 30 seconds. Additionally, the decrease rate in oxygen concentration was examined in the upper, middle, and lower areas. Ventilation utilizing an upper surface supply vent and two exhaust vents on the upper surface and upper side (Case 6), showed lower oxygen concentration values in the upper area, while Case 2 yielded lower values in the middle and lower areas. Therefore, it is crucial to select an appropriate supply and exhaust vent configuration considering the space's characteristics and usage environment.

Assessment and Improvement of Documentation Status on the Statements for the Sea Area Utilization Consultation according to the Project of Ports and Fishery Harbors (항만·어항개발사업의 해역이용협의서 작성실태 평가 및 개선방안)

  • This study analyzed the 91 cases of the statements for the Sea Area Utilization Consultation according to the developmental projects of ports and fishery harbors for 2012 2014 and the status of the record of document, and suggested the improvement way to go. The marine environmental timpact assessment items both marine chemistry such as water quality, sediment and marine biology such as benthic animal, plankton, and fisheries show highly rate of site survey. But, the utilization of those data through site survey is too low, and it is necessary to adopt the QA/QC for the reliability of survey data. The items of marine physics such as tide, tidal current analyzed based on references not a site survey. However, the simulation performed actively without calibration and verification compared to the result of site survey. When the projects of port and fishery harbor perform, it is necessary to monitor the physical parameter such as wave, tide and tidal current especially. Based on the scale and the type of project, we need introduce the system of scoping for prediagnosis the key assessment items and checklists.

Analysis of Tidal Asymmetric Characteristics in the Muan Bay (무안만의 조석비대칭적 특성 분석)

  • Tidal asymmetry would occur owing to shallow water tides at the Western Coast of macro tidal area. Especially, as ebb dominance of Mokpo coastal zone is known as the most prominent in Korea, it had been studied by domestic researchers. The cause of ebb dominance in Mokpo area is considered due to extensive inter-tidal zone in Muan Bay, and this has been studied based on amplification ratio, relative phase and skewness of tide/tidal flow curves in order to analyze qualitative tidal asymmetry. Furthermore, it was possible to figure out tidal characteristics with the difference of tidal amplitude and phase with Mokpo Harbor by observing the tide for 15 days in Muan Bay, which showed 40 minutes shorter ebbing time than at Mokpo Harbor. In addition, tidal flow prediction data in Mokpo North Harbor and Mokpo-Gu were analyzed. Meanwhile, the basis regarding qualitative interpretation of bed sediment and suspended sediment was provided by examining the qualitative changes in tidal asymmetry for spring-neap tidal cycle through the PCA/SWA indices. In addition, by examining long-term changes of ebb dominance in Mokpo Port, tidal characteristics of the past, present and future in this area, which is related to tidal asymmetry, is also provided.

A study on the hybrid communication system to remove the communication shadow area for controller system of navigational aids (전파 음영지역 해소를 위한 항로표지관리용 하이브리드 통신 시스템에 관한 연구)

  • Mu-communication board supported by multi-communication is designed with Atxmega 128A1 which is a low power energy consuming of 8-bit microcontroller. ATxmega128A1 microcontroller consists of 8 UART(Universal asynchronous receiver/transmitter) ports which can be setting appropriate user interface having command line interpreter(CLI) program with each port, 2 kbytes EEPROM, 128 kbytes flash memory, 8 kbytes SRAM. 8 URAT ports are used for the multi communication modem, GPS module, etc. and EEPROM is used for saving a configuration for program running, and flash memory of 128 kbytes is used for storing a Firm Ware, and 8 kbytes SRAM is used for stack, storing memory of global variables while program running. If we uses the hybrid communication of path optimization of VHF, TRS and CDMA to remote control AtoN(aid to navigation), it is able to remove the communication shadow area. Even though there is a shadow area for individual communication method, we can select an optimum communication method. The compatibility of data has been enhanced as using of same data frame per communication devices. For the test, 8640 of data has been collected from the each buoy during 30 days in every 5 minutes and the receiving rate of the data has shown more than 99.4 %.

A Study on the Selection of VTS Marine Incident Classification Criteria at the Busan Port (VTS 관점의 준해양사고 분류기준 선정에 관한 연구 - 부산항을 대상으로 -)

  • In order to prevent the dangers of major marine accidents, it is very important to be aware of in advance through marine incidents in the background of Heinrich's law, formulated by the safety pioneer who is credited with focusing on workplace safety with emphasis on the human element. At least 11 cases of collision accidents occurred in the Busan VTS area from January 1st to December 31st, 2019, and 24 cases of VTS marine incidents were reported during the same period. According to Heinrich's law, there could be many more potentially risky situations besides the 24 reported cases. In this study, the criteria for VTS marine incidents were established through advanced research and a survey of VTS operators, and analysis of 24 cases of VTS marine incidents in the Busan VTS area. Traffic surveys were conducted for three days to identify potentially hazardous situations. According to the survey, there were 216 cases of VTS marine incidents, and within a year, it is estimated there could be about 26,280 cases. Even if conditions such as "missing VHF communication feedback" which is an important cause of marine incidents, are not reflected, there are many potential risks in the VTS area. Thus, it is vital to strengthen the VTS marine incident reporting system.

A Study on the Route Operation & Safety Improvement in Gwangyang Traffic Safety Designated Area Based on ES Model (ES모델을 통한 광양항 교통안전특정해역의 항로운영과 안전성 향상에 관한 연구)

  • Gwangyang traffic safety designated area is composed of 3 fairways (Deep water fairway, inbound fairway, and outbound fairway). However, inbound vessels can't use this passage because of Samyeo rock and artificial fishing banks in inbound route. The problem with the rocks and artificial fishing banks has been raised by ship navigators and authorities of the port. This research is about the safety evaluation and management plan of the passage, and we conducted maritime traffic simulation using a model based on a ship operator risks. As a result, assuming that future marine traffic volume is the same as the present, and if the ship operators use 3 fairways and not two, it showed risk reduction of 46.4 % (vessels over 50,000 DWT using DW route) and 57.1 % (vessels over 10,000 DWT using DW route). Also, in a traffic volume condition which is the same as the present, to induce vessels over 50,000 DWT to use DW route is effective in mitigating of risks. Meanwhile, in a condition which increased the traffic volume by 150 %, it is more effective to induce vessels to use DW route. This research is the result of analysis using the model based on ship operator risks, and not cost-effectiveness analysis on the removal of Samyeo rock and artifical fishing banks. This research is expected to be used on setting up the sea route and management plan (particularly, restriction on passing DW route).

Diagnosis of Development Projects and Water Quality Changes in the Environmental Management Sea Areas and Improvement of Impact Assessment (환경관리해역의 이용개발현황과 수질변화경향 및 영향평가 개선방안)

  • The total number of Sea Area Utilization Consultation in the environment management sea areas reviewed from 2015 to 2017 were 60. The number of development projects in the environment conservation sea areas decreased steadily, but special management sea areas increased. Development types in environment management sea areas showed that artificial structure installation was the highest ratio, followed by fishery port development and construction of habor and coastal maintenance and sea water intake and draining. By comparing the trend of water quality changes using marine environment information system (MEIS) data in the environment management areas from 2006 to 2017, COD showed no significant changes but the environment conservation sea areas increased slightly, and the concentration of TN and TP decreased. Gwangyang and Masan bays in the special management sea areas and Gamak bay in the environment conservation sea areas displayed oxygen deficient mass in the summer. As the use of development projects of the environment management sea areas are performed continuously, an analysis of the status of sufficient water quality changes is necessary for environmental impact assessment (Sea Area Utilization Consultation) in the marine environment and should be evaluated mainly for management of contamination by diagnosing thoroughly water quality effects and the pollution of sediment. Especially, the water quality goal for the purpose of designation in each of the environment management sea areas is set clearly, connection with pollution source control and the total pollution load management system (TPLMS) should be proposed and measured to reduce the amount of contaminated water.

Fabrication and characterization of ZrxCe1-xO2 catalytic powder by a hydrothermal process (수열합성공정에 의한 ZrxCe1-xO2 촉매 분말의 제조 및 특성)

  • The ceria powder is excellent in oxygen storage capacity (OSC) through the oxidation and reduction reaction of Ce ions and is used as a typical material for a three-way catalyst of an automobile which purifies the exhaust gas. However, since ceria generally has poor thermal stability at high temperatures, it is doped with metal ions to improve thermal stability. Therefore, in this study, Zr ions were doped into ceria powder, and their characteristics were further improved due to the increase of specific surface area with decreasing particle size due to doping. In this study, the synthesis of zirconium doped ceria nanopowder was synthesized by hydrothermal process. In order to synthesis Zr ion doped ceria nanopowder, the precursor reaction at was $200^{\circ}C$ for 6 hours. The average particle size of synthesized Zr doped $CeO_2$ nanopowder was below 20 nm. The specific surface area of synthesized Zr ion doped ceria nanopowder increased from $52.03m^2/g$ to $132.27m^2/g$ with Zr increased 30 %.
