효모의 배양시기에 따른 인산화합물의 합성 및 효흡능에 미치는 탄수원의 영향 (Effect of the Carbon sources on the Synthesis of phosphate compounds and Respiratory activity of Yeast (saccharomyces uvarm) during growth phases)

  • The growth rate of yeast population (Saccharomyces uvarum) cultivated in the Knopp's modified medium (plus various carbon sources) appeared the highest value when the Knopp's minimal medium was treated to 1.5% with disaccharide such as maltose and sucrose. Also the treatment of lactose and raffinose resulted in polulation growth as to the population size in case of maltose and sucrose. However, the gorwth of yeast was not occurred at all when a polysaccharide, such as inulin, was added as carbon source. The growth from of yeast population in Knopp's modified medium are characterized by the fact that log phase continued 100hrs after inoculation and that stationary state phase appeared in general 250hrs after inoculation. Applying the various carbon sources to respiration substrate for yeast cell, the respiration rate of yeast showed the highest value in treatment of maltose and followed in order of raffinose, lactose, glucose, and sucrose. Determined the amount of poly-phosphate and turn over pathway of poly-phosphate according to culture phase of yeast, it is revealed that the yeast synthesized 3 types of poly phosphate (poly-P A,B, and C) and postulated that turn over pathway of poly-phosphate as follows ; Inorganic phosphate is converted into each kind of polyphosphates, and then one part of poly-P-C is converted into poly-P-B, the rest poly-p-C and poly-P-B are converted into poly-P-A. The synthesized poly-phosphate is considered to have a role as energy pool utilizing to synthesis of cellular organic materials. Of the 13 carbon sources used in this experiment, the useful carbon sources for biosynthesis of poly-phosphate and cellular organic materials are confirmed as disaccharide (maltose and sucrose) as well as glucose. Protein synthesis in yeast cell showed the two peaks on 6th and 8th day after inoculation ; nucleic acid on 2nd day (48hrs), carbohydrates on 2nd day (48hrs), and phospholipid on 2nd and 8th day after inoculation, respectively.

보건의료원이 설립된 군지역 주민의 의료이용양상변화 분석 (Change of Health Care Utilization Pattern with the Establishment of Health Center Hospital in a District)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of the health center hospital on the health service utilization pattern of the rural population in a county. Two field studies had been conducted in Yonchon County, Kyunggi Province, on February 1989 and on August 1991 before and after the establishment of the Yonchon health center hospital. This study revealed that Yonchon health center hospital occupied 7.3% of total outpatient visits and 16.8% of hospitalization of the county population and the self-sufficient rate of the outpatient visit and hospitalization of Yonchon County between two field studies increased by 1.7% and 20.9% each. Yonchon health center hospital contributed to the growth of the public health sector but it weakened the role of health sub-centers. For the efficient health service utilization of the population in that County, more investment to health center hospital would be needed and the primary health activities of the health subcenter should be enforced.

한국의 산림 변천:추이, 특징 및 함의 (Forest Transition in Korea:Trends, Characteristics and Implications)

  • 1927-2007년간 우리나라 산림변천의 추세와 특성을 파악하기 위하여 산림면적 및 임목축적으로 대표되는 산림자원 통계와 인구자료를 재구성하였다. 평균 임목축적을 기준으로 할 경우, 우리나라 산림변천은 산림황폐기(1927-1952), 산림정체기(1953-1972), 산림성장기(1973~2007)로 유형화할 수 있다. 같은 기간 산림면적은 연평균 0.05% 감소하였다. 60% 이상의 높은 산림률을 유지한 국가로서 급격한 경제 성장과 인구 증가를 고려한다면 그리 큰 산림감소라 할 수는 없다. ha 당 임목축적은 1952년 $5.6m^3$에서 2007년에는 $97.8m^3$로 17.5배 증가하였다. 특히, 인구 증가에도 불구하고 1인 당 임목축적은 같은 기간 $1.7m^3$에서 $12.9m^3$로 7.4배 증가하였다. 같은 기간 무립목지는 331.5만ha에서 16.5만ha로 감소하였다. 50년 이상 지속적인 경제성장과 더불어 산림면적의 큰 감소 없이 무립목지가 감소하고 평균 임목축적이 계속 증가한 우리나라는 근대적 산림성장을 하였다고 평가할 수 있을 것이다. 또한 1990~2005년간 인구 1천만 명 이상, 산림률 10% 이상인 56개 국가 중 한국은 산림률이 높으면서도 산림전용이 매우 낮은 국가로 분류되었다. 특히 산림률이 50% 이상인 국가 중 산림감소가 평균 이하인 유일한 개도국이었다.

한국 제당 산업 발전사 (History of sugar industry in Korea)

  • In Korea, a sugar company was first established at Pyongyang in 1920. But the real sugar industry began in 1953 when CJ Cheiljedang produced sugar at its Busan plant. Currently, three companies, CJ Cheiljedang, Samyang Corp., and TS Corp. are participating in the sugar industry. Sugar production increased from 647 tons in 1953 to 1,423 thousand tons in 2019. This means that the sugar industry has been grown by 2,200 times compared to 1953. Before 1953, all sugar consumed in Korea was imported, but now about 300 thousand tons, a 20 percent of sugar produced annually is exported. Population increase, economic growth, and food industry development contributed to the growth of sugar industry. However, recently the sugar industry has been stagnated due to the decrease of population and economic growth rate, and campaign of sugars and calories reduction. To overcome it, the continued development of various sugar application using emerging biotechnology is needed.

  • 사육밀도를 달리한 지렁이 개체군에 우분을 먹이로 공급하였을 때 지렁이 생육과 분립의 생산량 및 분립의 화학적 조성을 조사하였다. 지렁이의 생존율과 증식속도사이에의 유의한 정상관이, 생존율과 증식속도간에는 역상관이 존재하였다. 최적사육밀도는 $42.7-128cm^3$/마리의 범위로 추정되었으며, 최적사육밀도에서 분립의 생산량은 36.5-80.9 mg/마리의범위로 추정되었다. 분립은 그화학적 조성과 물리적 성상으로 볼 때 토양개량제로서 이용가치가 높다고 판단되었다.

Changes of an endangered population of Iris dichotoma after conservation translocation in Taeanhaean National Park, Korea

  • Sustainable habitats play a significant role in determining the survival and habitat preservation of endangered species. To conserve the endangered species Iris dichotoma Pall. and its habitat in Taeanhaean National Park, we collected seeds from a natural population and germinated and propagated them in a greenhouse. In 2019, the propagated individuals of I. dichotoma were transplanted at two study sites in Taeanhaean National Park. After conservation translocation, annual monitoring was conducted from 2020 to 2022, and factors related to the survival and growth of I. dichotoma (clonal propagation rate [%], the flowering rate [%], the population density [individual/m2], the maximum leaf bundle length [height; cm], the maximum leaf bundle width [cm], and the pedicel length [cm]) were measured. According to the results of the monitoring of the flowering and fruiting periods for three years after transplantation, 82.4% of individuals in total were found to have survived. During 2020 to 2022, the mean population density (individual/m2) increased from 0.36 to 0.42 and the size of the leaf bundle length and the width both decreased compared to the corresponding figures in 2019 (p < 0.05). According to the findings here, the transplanted population of I. dichotoma is considered to have adapted successfully to its new site in Taeanhaean National Park.

Development of a model to forecast the external migration rate in development projects reflecting city characteristics

  • In planning public service systems such as waterworks, the design population is very important factor. Owing to the limitations of the indirect method, two new models, which take into consideration urban characteristics, were developed to accurately predict external migration rate (EMR), which is an essential component in estimating reliably the design population. The root mean square error (RMSE) between the model values and observed values were 10.12 and 15.58 for the metropolitan cities and counties respectively and were lower compared to RMSE values of 27.31 and 28.79 obtained by the indirect method. Thus, the developed models provide a more accurate estimate of EMR than the indirect method. In addition, the major influencing factors for external migration in counties were development type, ageing index, number of businesses. On the other hand, the major influencing migration factors for cities were project scale, distance to city center, manufacturing size, population growth rate and residential environment. Future medium and long-term studies would be done to identify emerging trends to appropriately inform policy making.

지역 경쟁력과 경제발전 간의 관계 : 변이할당분석기법의 고총성장에의 적용을 토대로 (Effects of the Localities' Competitiveness Contributing to Employment Growth on Local Economic Development: Based on a Shift-Share Method)

  • 본 연구에서는 고용성장의 측면에서 발현된 지역 고유의 경쟁력 및 상대적 이점이 지역경제발전에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 이 분석을 위해, 1990년대 기간(1991년-2000년)에 일어난 각 지역의 산업부문별 고용성장에 변이할당분석기법을 적용해서 산출한 지역경쟁할당요소로써 지역 경쟁력을 측정하였고, 2000년대 초반의 연평균 인구성장률 (2000년-2003년)과 1인당 소득세할 주민세 3개년 평균(2000년-2002년)을 지역경제발전을 나타내는 변수로서 활용하였다. 분석은 전국 167개 지방자치단체를 대상으로 공간계량경제 모델링 기법을 활용해서 이루어졌다. 분석결과는 지역경제발전을 나타내는 두 개의 변수에 따라 상이한 것으로 나타났다. 1990년대 제조업 고용성장의 지역경쟁할당요소는 2000년대 초반의 연평균 인구성장률을 유의하게 증가시키는 효과를 나타낸 반면, 건설업 고용성장의 지역경쟁할당 요소는 인구성장률을 유의하게 감소시키는 효과를 보였다. 그리고 제조업과 건설업 각각의 지역경쟁할당요소는 1인당 소득세할 주민세를 감소시키는 효과를 보인 반면, 사회 및 개인 서비스업의 지역경쟁할당요소는 그 반대의 효과를 보였다.

자살과 사회경제적 요인과의 관계에 있어서 한국과 다른 OECD 국가들과의 차이 (Differences between Korea and Other OECD Countries in the Relationships between Suicide and Socioeconomic Factors)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to examine how the relationship between socioeconomic factors at the macro level and suicide mortality rate of Korea was different from that of other OECD countries. Methods: We created OECD panel data of 29 OECD countries from 1985 to 2006 and analyzed the relationship between socioeconomic factors and suicide mortality rate for separate age and sex groups using a fixed-effect model. Economic factors included per capita GDP, per capita GDP growth rate, unemployment rate, and women's economic participation rate. Social factors included birth rate, alcohol consumption, and the percentage of population 65 and older. Results: Unemployment rate had a positive relationship with suicide in other countries but it had a negative relationship in some groups of Korea. Women's economic participation rate was both positively and negatively related with suicide in Korea but it did not relate to suicide in others. The negative relationship of birth rate and the positive relationship of alcohol consumption with suicide were evident in Korea, which were not found in other countries. The percentage of population 65 and older was negatively correlated in some female groups in Korea, while no significant relationship was found in other countries. Conclusions: Korea was substantially different from other OECD countries in the relationship between socioeconomic factors and suicide mortality rate.

  • A two-strain epidemic model with an age structure mutation and varying population is studied. By means of the spectrum theory of bounded linear operator in functional analysis, the reproductive numbers according to the strains, which associates with the growth rate ${\lambda}^*$ of total population size are obtained. The asymptotic stability of the steady states are obtained under some sufficient conditions.
