  • This work utilizes simplified higher-order shear deformation beam theory (HSDBT) to investigate the vibration response for functionally graded carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (CNTRC) beam. Novel to this work, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are distributed and aligned in a matrix of polymer throughout the beam, resting on a viscoelastic foundation. Four un-similar patterns of reinforcement distribution functions are investigated for the CNTRC beam. Porosity is another consideration taken into account due to its significant effect on functionally graded materials (FGMs) properties. Three types of uneven porosity distributions are studied in this study. The damping coefficient and Winkler's and Pasternak's parameters are considered in investigating the viscosity effect on the foundation. Moreover, the impact of different parameters on the vibration of the CNTRC beam supported by a viscoelastic foundation is discussed. A comparison to other works is made to validate numerical results in addition to analytical discussions. The findings indicate that incorporating a damping coefficient can improve the vibration performance, especially when the spring constant factors are raised. Additionally, it has been noted that the fundamental frequency of a beam increases as the porosity coefficient increases, indicating that porosity may have a significant impact on the vibrational characteristics of beams.

  • As the first part of the body that strikes the ground during running, sports shoes are especially important for improving performance and reducing injuries. The use of new nanotechnology materials in the shoe's sole that can affect the movement angle of the foot and the ground reaction forces during running has not been reported yet. It is important to consider the material of the sole of the shoe since it determines the long-term performance of sports shoes, including their comfort while walking, running, and jumping. Running performance can be improved by polymer foam that provides good support with low energy dissipation (low energy dissipation). Running shoes have a midsole made of ethylene propylene copolymer (EPP) foam. The mechanical properties of EPP foam are, however, low. To improve the mechanical performance of EPP, conventional mineral fillers are commonly used, but these fillers sacrifice energy return. In this study, to improve the magnificence of physical education training with nanotechnology, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) derived from recycled plastics were prepared by catalytic chemical vapor deposition and used as nucleating and reinforcing agents. As a result of the results, the physical, mechanical, and dynamic response properties of EPP foam combined with CNT and zinc oxide nanoparticles were significantly improved. When CNT was added to the nanocomposites with a weight percentage of less than 0.5 wt%, the wear resistance, physical properties, dynamic stiffness, compressive strength, and rebound properties of EPP foams were significantly improved.

  • The bending and buckling effect for carbon nanotube-reinforced composite (CNTRC) beams can be evaluated by developing the theory of third shear deformation (TSDT). This study examines beams supported by viscoelastic foundations, where single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are dispersed and oriented within a polymer matrix. Four patterns of reinforcement are used for the CNTRC beams. The rule of mixtures is assessed for the material properties of CNTRC beams. The effective functionally graded materials (FGM) properties are studied by considering three different uneven distribution types of porosity. The damping coefficient is considered to investigate the viscosity effect on the foundation in addition to Winkler's and Pasternak's parameters. The accuracy of the current theory is inspected with multiple comparison works. Moreover, the effects of different beam parameters on the CNTRC beam bending and buckling over a viscoelastic foundation are discussed. The results demonstrated that the O-beam is the weakest type of CNTRC beam to resist buckling and flexure loads, whereas the X-beam is the strongest. Moreover, it is indicated that the presence of porosity in the beams decreases the stiffness and increases deflection. In comparison, the deflection was reduced in the presence of a viscoelastic foundation.

  • The duties of the restorative materials are to bear up against stress and to protect reinforcement corrosion. So the restorative materials are estimated by various kinds of strength, permeability and etc, But, in case of existing performance evaluation of restorative materials, because various deterioration factors are separately acted, the system of performance evaluation is different from that of combined deterioration of real structure and it is difficult to evaluate the exact performance of restorative materials. In this study, to evaluate Performance of restorative materials, we compare their korea standard properties in terms of compressive and bending strength and permeability of water and air with real durability for carbonation, salt damage and actual reinforcement corrosion like ratio of corrosion area. weight reduction and corrosion velocity of steel bar under environment of combined deterioration. The results showed that strength and permeability of restorative materials are similar but their resistance to carbonation, salt damage and actual reinforcement corrosion are very different.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse and compare experimentally flexural behavior of RC beams strengthened with CFRP plates by different methods, and finally suggest the evaluation equations of flexural capacity of RC beams with the aim of application of prestressed CFRP strengthening. The experimental parameters are compressive strength, reinforcement ratio, prestressing level and strengthening methods. The non-prestressed specimens failed on account of separation of the plates from the beams due to premature de-bonding, while most of the prestressed specimens failed due to CFRP plate fracture. The evaluation equations of flexural capacity of RC beams is suggested and these equations have a good reliability in predicting flexural strength of RC beams.

  • The aim of this paper is to clarify the structural performance of RC beams strengthened with Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer(CFRP) plates using channel-type anchorage system. Twelve RC beams were specifically designed without and with a channel-type anchorage system, which was carefully detailed to enhance the benefits of the strengthening plates. All the twelve beams were identical in terms of their geometry but varied in their internal reinforcement, concrete strength. All the beams were tested under four point bending and extensively instrumented to monitor strains, cracking, load capacity and failure modes. The structural response of all the twelve beams is then critically analyzed in terms of deformability, strength and failure processes. It is shown that with a channel-type anchorage system, a brittle debonding failure of a strengthened beam can be transformed to an almost ductile failure with well-defined enhancement of structural performance in terms of both deformation and strength.

  • Previous test results showed that the current ASTM(American Standard for Testing and Materials) grip adapter for GFRP(Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer) rebar was not fully successful in developing the design tensile strength of GFRP rebars with reasonable accuracy. It is because the current ASTM grip adapter which is composed of a pair of rectangular metal blocks of which inner faces are grooved along the longitudinal direction does not take into account the various geometric characteristics of GFRP rebar such as surface treatment, shape of bar cross section as well as physical characteristics such as poisson effect, elastic modulus in the transverse direction and so on. The objective of this paper is to provide how to proportion the optimum diameter of inner groove in ASTM grip adapter to develop design tensile strength of GFRP rebar. The proportioning of inner groove in ASTM grip adapter is based on the force equilibrium of GFRP rebar between tensile capacity and minimum frictional resistance required along the grip adapter. The frictional resistance of grip adapter is calculated based on the compressive strain compatibility in radial direction induced by the difference between diameter of GFRP rebar and inner groove In ASTM grip. All testing procedures were made according to the CSA S806-02 recommendations. From the preliminary test results on round-type GFRP rebars, it was found that maximum tensile loads acquired under the same testing conditions is highly affected by the diameter of inner groove in ASTM grip adapter. The grip adapter with specific dimension proportioned by proposed method recorded the highest tensile strength among them.

  • Recently, the usage of elastic paving using EPDM Chip instead of pedestrian sidewalk blocks or permeable concrete used mostly for pedestrian walk, trails and in parks has been increassed as it can absorb impact during walking and produce wide range of colors and designs. However, the properties of EPDM Chip including elasticity and durability are decreased when exposed to ultraviolet ray and scenic paving functions through various colors are lowered due to the yellowing phenomenon. In this study, ultraviolet ray accelerated weathering test has been conducted to analyze the color changes in EPDM Chip and polyurethane resin, which are the main ingredients of elastic paving, when exposed to ultraviolet ray. The color differences are quantitatively analyzed through the color value coordination of the colored space by using the color difference scheme. The experimental results show that the color changes in BL polyurethane resin which is used most frequently at present was larger than that of EPDM Chip. Moreover, the total color difference, ${\Delta}E$, of BC polyurethane resin are 3.162 on the $14^{th}$ day of commencement of acceleration, which is 6 times greater color change resistance against ultraviolet ray than that of BL polyurethane resin with total color difference of 20.639. Therefore, the usage of BC polyurethane resin, which is manufactured to have chain-type molecular structure by using the isocyanate as the HMDI at the time of producing polymer, as binder in elastic paving with EPDM Chip is found to be a highly efficient method of restraining the color changes due to the ultraviolet ray.

  • This study was performed to estimate the high-speed direct tensile strength(DTS1), low-speed direct tensile strength(DTS2) , indirect tensile strength(ITS) resilient modulus(MR) and stiffness index(SI) of sand asphalt mixture based on the absolute viscosity, kinematic viscosity, penetration, softening point and PG grade of binder. DTS2 showed higher correlation with the physical properties than other properties of mixture, and the next was DTS1, ITS, SI and MR in order. Among binder properties, PG grade showed the highest relation with DTS2. Therefore. it was found that the high DTS mixture could be made when the binder with a high PG grade was used. However, since the individual physical property showed a relatively low correlation, various properties were used together in regression analysis. The estimation models of DTS and ITS were over 0.99, respectively. R2 of MR and SI estimation models were over 0.91 and 0.93, respectively. It was concluded that mechanical properties could be estimated with a high coefficient of determination from those physical properties.
