This study presents 0-dimensional model for solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs). The physics of the cell and the simplifying assumptions are presented, and only hydrogen participates in the electrochemical reaction. The electrical potential is predicted using this model. The Butler-Volmer equation is used to describe the activation polarization and the exchange current density is changed according to the partial pressure of reactants and the temperature. The electrical conductivities of electrodes and an electrolyte are calculated for the ohmic polarization. Material characteristics and temperature affect those factors. Analysis of concentration polarization based on transport of gaseous species through porous electrodes is incorporated in this model. Both binary diffusion and Knudsen diffusion are considered as the diffusion mechanism. For validation, simulation results at this work are compared with our experimental results and numerical results by other researchers.

The ITU-R model for cross-polarization, which is accurate enough in real rainfall environments, is proposed in this paper. By comparing this with measurement data and the ITU-R model, we have also derived a prediction model for rain cross-polarization applicable upto millimeter wave band.
The role of empirical equation to predict the performance of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell is important. The activation, ohmic and mass transfer losses were separated in a polarization curve, and the curve fitting according to each region was performed using Kim's model and Hao's model. Changes of each loss were compared according to operation variables of the temperature, pressure, oxygen concentration and membrane thickness. The existing model showed a good fitting convergence, but less fitting accuracy in the separated loss region. A new model using the convergence coefficient was suggested to improve the accuracy of performance prediction of fuel cells of which results were demonstrated.

A finite element model for polarization switching in electro-mechanically coupled materials is proposed and applied to predict the switching behavior of a two-dimensional ferroelectric ceramic. A complicated micro-structure existing in the material is modeled as il continuum body and a simple 3 node triangle finite element with nodal displacement and voltage degrees of freedom is used for a finite element analysis. The elements use nonlinear constitutive equations, switching criterion and kinetic relation, fur representation of material response at strong electric and stress fields. The polarization state of the material is represented by internal variables in each element, which are updated at each simulation step based on the proposed constitutive equations. The model reproduces strain and electric displacement hysteresis loops observed in the material.
By using a phenomenological approach, model equations incorporating the resistance-in¬series concept were established to evaluate quantitatively concentration polarization in the boundary layer in feed adjacent to the membrane surface in the vapor permeation and separation of volatile organic compounds (VOCS)/$N_2$ mixture through po]y(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) membrane. The vapor permeations of various VOCS/$N_2$ mixtures through PDMS membrane were carried out at various feed flow rates. Chlorinated hydrocarbons, such as, methylene chloride, chlorofonn, 1,2-clichloroethane and 1,1,2-trichloroethane were used as organic vapor. By fitting the model equations to the experimental penneation data. the model parameters were detennined. respectively. Both the mass transfer coefficient of VOC across tbe boundary layer and concentration polarization modulus as a measure of the extent of concentration polarization were eitimated Quantitatively by the mooe1 equations with the determined model parameters. From the analysis on the detennined model parameters, the boundary layer resistance due to the concentration polarization of VOCs component was found to be more significant when the condensability of voe was greater. This study seeks to emphasize the importance of the boundary resistance on the vapor penneation of the vapor/gas mixtures with high permeability and high selectivity towards the minor component VOC.
Magnetars are neutron stars possessing a magnetic field of about $10^{14}-10^{15}$ G at the surface. Thermodynamic properties of neutron star matter, approximated by pure neutron matter, are considered at finite temperature in strong magnetic fields up to $10^{18}$ G which could be relevant for the inner regions of magnetars. In the model with the Skyrme effective interaction, it is shown that a thermodynamically stable branch of solutions for the spin polarization parameter corresponds to the case when the majority of neutron spins are oriented opposite to the direction of the magnetic field (i.e. negative spin polarization). Moreover, starting from some threshold density, the self-consistent equations have also two other branches of solutions, corresponding to positive spin polarization. The influence of finite temperatures on spin polarization remains moderate in the Skyrme model up to temperatures relevant for protoneutron stars. In particular, the scenario with the metastable state characterized by positive spin polarization, considered at zero temperature in Phys. Rev. C 80, 065801 (2009), is preserved at finite temperatures as well. It is shown that, above certain density, the entropy for various branches of spin polarization in neutron matter with the Skyrme interaction in a strong magnetic field shows the unusual behavior, being larger than that of the nonpolarized state. By providing the corresponding low-temperature analysis, we prove that this unexpected behavior should be related to the dependence of the entropy of a spin polarized state on the effective masses of neutrons with spin up and spin down, and to a certain constraint on them which is violated in the respective density range.
Accurate evaluation of polarization characteristics in the integrated optic chip (IOC) for interferometric fiber optic gyroscope was performed. Spatial distribution of optical wavetrains caused by the polarization parameters such as local polarization cross-coupling and polarization rejection coefficient of the IOC were measured utilizing the path-matched optical coherence domain polarimetry (PM-OCDP). With the analytic model deduced from Jones matrix representation, we could accurately identify the polarization characteristics of the IOC. Both degree of measurement error due to the imperfect equipment conditions in PM-OCDP and birefringence of IOC chip were also characterized.

This paper describes the characteristics of a one dimensional narrow-wall slotted waveguide array with a single-layer linear-to-circular polarization converter consisting of a dipole array. An external boundary value Problem of one slot and three dipoles, which approximates the mutual coupling between the dipole array and an edge slot extending over three faces of a rectangular waveguide, is formulated and analyzed by the method of moments; design of polarization conversion is conducted for this model as a unit element. If every unit element has perfect circular polarization, grating lobes appear in the array pattern due to the alternating slot angle: these are suppressed in this paper by changing the dipole angle and degrading the axial ratio of the unit element. The validity of the design is confirmed by the measurements. The dipole array has negligible effects upon slot impedance; the polarization conversion for existing narrow-wall slotted arrays is realized by add-on dipole array.

In this paper, to counteract a cross-polarization interference caused by co-channel dual polarization technique of digital radio relay system(DRRS), we analyze the theoretical model and digital design of cross-polarization interference canceller(XPIC). In addition a complex adaptive time domain equalizer(ATDE) is designed using a finite impulse response filter, and the structure of XPIC and its control method are also illustrated including ATDE. Our computer simulation shows that about 25 dB signature and more than 23 dB XPIC improvement factor can be obtained with XPIC and ATDE. In order to verify the operation of designed XPIC, we review the simulated results in view of tap number, algorithm convergence, system signature, and XPlC improvement factor in connection with 64-QAM DRRS with co-channel dual polarization.

We present a polarization-dependent prism array film for controlling the viewing angle distribution of liquid crystal (LC) display panels without loss of light efficiency. On a directional backlight unit, our polarization-dependent prism array film, made into a stacked bilayer with a well-aligned liquid crystalline reactive mesogen (RM) layer on the UV-imprinted prism structure, can continuously control the light refraction function of the prism array by electrically switching incident polarization states of a polarization-controlling layer prepared by a twisted nematic LC mode. The viewing angle control properties of the polarization-dependent prism array film are analyzed under different prism angle and refractive index conditions of the RM layer. A simple analytic model is also presented to describe the intermediate viewing angle distributions with continuously varying applied voltages and incident polarization states.
