  • Between October 2019 and January 2020, 120EA of a syringe that was equipped with a 3-way injection material and administered 99mTc labeled compound among inpatients for SPECT examination at the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Daegu P Hospital. When using a plastic syringe, the average dosing rate according to the number of dilutions was 99mTc-ECD the highest at 90.87±11.08, and 99mTc-DMSA the lowest at 75.28±7.43. The average dose rate according to the number of dilutions was the highest at 93.58±7.96, and the lowest at 99mTc-DMSA at 91.60±6.07. The independent sample t-test showed whether the difference between the 99mTc-DMSA plastic syringe and the normjek syringe was statistically significant(p<0.01). The 99mTc-DMSA used for radiopharmaceuticals is a radiopharmaceutical that is mainly used for pediatric patients, and it is considered that it is necessary to use a normjek syringe rather than a general plastic syringe because the precise dosage is important.

  • PET/CT is a medical equipment that detects 0.511 MeV of gamma rays. The radiation workers are inevitably exposed to ionizing radiation in the process of handling the isotope. Accordingly, PET/CT workers use syringe shields made of lead and tungsten to protect their hands. However, lead and tungsten are known to generate very high scattering particles by interacting with gamma rays. Therefore, in this study, we tried to find out the effect on the scattering particles emitted from the syringe shield. In the experiment, first, the exposure dose to the hand (Rod phantom) was evaluated according to the metal material (lead, tungsten, iron, stainless steel) using Monte Carlo simulation. The exposure dose was compared according to whether or not plastic is attached. Second, the exposure dose of scattering particles was measured using a dosimeter and lead. As a result of the experiment, the shielding rate of plastics using the Monte Carlo simulation showed the largest difference in dose of about 40 % in lead, and the lowest in iron, about 15 %. As a result of the dosimeter test, when the plastic tape was wound on lead, it was found that the reduction rate was about 15 %, 28 %, and 39 % depending on the thickness. Based on the above results, it was found that 0.511 MeV of gamma ray interacts with the shielding tool to emit scattered rays and has a very large effect on radiation exposure. However, it was considered that the scattering particles could be sufficiently removed with plastics with a low atomic number. From now on, when using high-energy radiation, the shielding tool and the skin should not be in direct contact, and should be covered with a material with a low atomic number.

  • The stability of cytarabine (manufactured by two pharmaceutical companies) in intravenous admixture and in plastic syringe was investigated. The admixures containing cytarabine 0.35, 8.6, and 17.1 mg/ml in $0.9\%\;NaCl\;or\;5\%$ D5W were placed in PVC bags or glass bottles, and the reconstituted cytarabine (50 mg/ml) was placed in plastic syringe. One ml aliquots were withdrawn immediately after each preparation and stored at $4^{\circ}C\;or\;24^{\circ}C$ for 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 14 days unprotected from light. Each sample was tested for pH and visually inspected for precipitation and change in color. Cytarabine concentrations were measured using high-performance liquid chromatography. Neither precipitation nor change in color was noted, and there were no change in pH during 14 days of testing. The changes in cytarabine concentrations were less than $10\%$. In conclusion, cytarabine in IV admixture or plastic syringe was stable for at least 14 days at $4^{\circ}C\;and\;24^{\circ}C.$(Kor. J. Clin. Pharm. 1998; 8(1): 59-67)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the syringe experiment device which is able to analyze the relationship between the length of the air pillar and resonance frequencies quantitatively for the education of sound resonance. We made an air pillar resonance device with a 'Head', which is used by the disposable syringe and the plastic sphere for constructing molecular models. We also assembled PC experiment equipment which is used by commercial software. As a result, it appears this equipment can be used instead of the current device used by experts. It was proved that this syringe device is not the 'pipe' but the 'Helmholtz resonator'. It appears that data through resonance experiments can prove the sound resonance phenomenon. In conclusion, this syringe resonator is the experiment device that can be used in the gifted education for middle-high school students and acoustic experiments for university students.

  • We introduce a convenient method of urethrography before catheterization for patients with pelvic trauma that can be used in a resuscitation area. A 10-mL syringe without a needle was used. X-ray contrast medium (Iohexol, 300 mg I/mL) was administered through the urethral orifice using a 10-mL syringe without needle and a simple pelvic anteroposterior film was taken (70 kilovolt [peak], 50 mAs). A 36-year-old soldier with a saddle injury from a gun barrel was taken to a trauma center. He had a pelvic fracture and complained of hematuria. Bedside urethrography above described was performed. The anterior urethra showed nonspecific findings, but dye leaked from the posterior urethra. Bedside Foley catheter insertion was attempted, but the catheter could not be advanced past the membranous urethra. Thereafter, suprapubic catheterization was performed. On the day of the injury, iliac artery embolization was carried out. The dislocated sacroiliac joint was also treated using open reduction and internal fixation. On hospital day 7, guidewire Foley insertion was performed. This bedside urethrography technique is simple and useful for pelvic fractures in which urethral injury is suspected.

  • Although several suspension biomaterials have been considered to be relatively safe and convenient, varying degrees of resorption have required repeated percutaneous injection. In the previous animal study the authors have reported that cultured human fibroblasts suspended in $Restylane^{(R)}$, which is modified hyaluronic acid, could produce human dermal matrices and prolong the effect of this gel. This study was undertaken to evaluate the clinical efficacy of this method. A total of 11 patients ranging from 25 to 57 years of age were included in this study between January of 2002 and December of 2003. All the patients were treated for the purpose of augmentation rhinoplasty. $1{\times}10^7/ml$ or $1.5{\times}10^7/ml$ cultured fibroblasts were suspended in 0.7 to 1.4 ml of $Restylane^{(R)}$. The implants were transferred to a 1-ml syringe and injected subcutaneously to the nose of the patients. Among 11 patients, long term follow-up for more than 1 year was possible in 6 patients. The injected implants remained in site without evidence of resorption or loss of correction. All the patients were satisfied with long term results of this method. There was no complication during the follow-up period.

  • Purpose: V.A.C. is a new concept which is closed dressing with negative pressure to promote wound healing. It has been widely used as the treatment of chronic and acute wounds such as pressure sores, burns, stasis ulcers, and other complicated wounds. However It has disadvantages such as high cost and the need of specific equipment. In this article, we described new method to overcome these disadvantages. Methods: We made newly innovated equipment with 50 cc syringe and spring to create negative pressure. From May 2006 to May 2007, we applied it to two patients with chronic wound. Results: The treatment period was 5 weeks for one case and 3 weeks for the other case. Both patients were healed completely without admission and wound healing was accelerated. During follow-ups, there were no complications. The mean cost for single dressing was 9,590 won. Conclusion: Modified portable negative therapy using newly innovated equipment could accelerate wound healing better than conventional dressing. It lowers the number of dressings, saves cost of treatment, and enables treatment as outpatient basis.

  • A monte carlo simulation about shielding material and thickness of the syringe shield for radiation shield was performed. As a result of analysis, high atomic number materials such as tungsten, lead and bismuth have the highest shielding effect. However, $^{18}F$, $^{67}Ga$ and $^{111}In$ show high energy distribution in the region with thin shielding thickness. As the thickness of shielding materials increased, the energy distribution decreased due to reduction of ${\gamma}$-ray. In the case of low atomic number materials, they, showed energy distribution from highest to lowest, were barium sulfate, steel, stainless, iron and copper. Aluminum, plastic, concrete and water showed diverse aspect. they showed relatively high energy distribution because of increased ${\gamma}$-ray that penetrate the shield.
