In this study, the effective thermal conductivity and elastic modulus of heat-resistant coating materials are analyzed by using micromechanical computational models. Three-dimensional computational models for HfC-coated carbon/carbon composites were created with Simpleware, and finite element analysis was performed. The porosity and thickness changes in the coating layer were taken into account to identify the tendency of effective material properties. In addition, the coupon specimen was produced to compare the thermal conductivity measured by experiments with the one obtained by finite element analysis according to temperature changes, and the analysis results were close to the measured values. This confirms that micromechanical computational analysis is appropriate in the calculation of effective material properties of coating composites.
Objective : This study is conducted to investigate the effect of Astragali Radix on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD) induced by the Single Proposed Stress(SPS). Methods : The experiment was conducted with five groups; SAL groups with only saline treatment, SPS group, SPS + ARX25 group, SPS + ARX50 group, and SPS + ARX100 group. After applying SPS, saline and ARX were administered for 14 days to identify the change of body weight, sucrose intake amount, and behavioral changes through Open Field Test(OFT) and Forced Swimming Test(FST). After the behavioral experiment, plasma corticosterone levels, serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine concentrations were measured by enzyme-linked immunoassay in medical prefrontal cortex, hippocampus, and amygdala. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) in the hippocampus was measured using Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction. Results : Weight change has significantly decreased in the SPS group compared to the SAL group(p<0.05). On day 14, the sucrose intake of rats has significantly increased in the SPS + ARX100 group compared to the SPS group(p<0.05). In OFT, the number of staying in the central space has significantly increased in the SPS + ARX100 group(p<0.01). In FST, immobility has significantly decreased in SPS + ARX50 group and SPS + ARX100 group(p<0.05). The concentration of serotonine, dopamine and BDNF expression has increased significantly in SPS + ARX100 group compared to SPS group(p<0.05) Conclusions : In the SPS-induced PTSD experiment, ARX increased sucrose intake and the numbers of crossing in the central zone space in OFT, decreased immobility time in FST, and increased concentration of serotonin, dopamine, and BDNF. It can be postulated that the ARX could be effective for the treatment of PTSD.

Objective: For an accurate dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) MRI analysis, exact baseline T1 mapping is critical. The purpose of this study was to compare the pharmacokinetic parameters of DCE MRI using synthetic MRI with those using fixed baseline T1 values. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included 102 patients who underwent both DCE and synthetic brain MRI. Two methods were set for the baseline T1: one using the fixed value and the other using the T1 map from synthetic MRI. The volume transfer constant (Ktrans), volume of the vascular plasma space (vp), and the volume of the extravascular extracellular space (ve) were compared between the two methods. The interclass correlation coefficients and the Bland-Altman method were used to assess the reliability. Results: In normal-appearing frontal white matter (WM), the mean values of Ktrans, ve, and vp were significantly higher in the fixed value method than in the T1 map method. In the normal-appearing occipital WM, the mean values of ve and vp were significantly higher in the fixed value method. In the putamen and head of the caudate nucleus, the mean values of Ktrans, ve, and vp were significantly lower in the fixed value method. In addition, the T1 map method showed comparable interobserver agreements with the fixed baseline T1 value method. Conclusion: The T1 map method using synthetic MRI may be useful for reflecting individual differences and reliable measurements in clinical applications of DCE MRI.
Poly[4-hydroxystyrene-co-2-(4-methoxybutyl)-2-adamantyl methacrylate] was synthesized and evaluated as a matrix resin for extreme UV (EUV) chemically amplified resist. The resist system formulated with this polymer resolved 120 nm line and space (pitch 240 nm) positive patterns using a KrF excimer laser scanner (0.60 NA). The well defined 50 nm line positive patterns (pitch 180 nm) were obtained using an EUV lithography tool. The dry etching resistance of this resist for a $CF_{4}$-based plasma was 1.1 times better than that of poly(4-hydroxystyrene).
This study is aimed to the numerical modeling of the surface plasmon-polariton excitation by a layer of active (electrically pumped) quantum dots embedded in a semiconductor, covered with a metal. It is shown that this excitation becomes much more efficient if the metal has a form of a thin (with thickness of several nanometers) film. The cause of this enhancement in comparison with a thick covering metal film is the partial surface plasmon-polariton localized at the metal-semiconductor interface penetration into air. In result the real part of the metal+air half-space effective dielectric function becomes closer (in absolute value) to the real part of the semiconductor dielectric function than in the case of a thick covering metal film. This leads to approaching the point of the surface plasmon-polariton resonance (where absolute values of these parts coincide) and, therefore, the enhancement of the surface plasmon-polariton excitation. The calculations were made for a particular example of InAs quantum dot layer embedded in GaAs matrix covered with an Au film. Its results indicate that for the 10 nm Au film the rate of this excitation becomes by 2.5 times, and for the 5 nm Au film - by 6-7 times larger than in the case of a thick (40 nm or more) Au film.
The Solar-B is the third Japanese spacecraft dedicated for solar physics to be launched in summer of 2006. The spacecraft carries a coordinated set of optical, EUV and X-ray instruments that will allow a systematic study of the interaction between the Sun's magnetic field and its high temperature, ionized atmosphere. The Solar Optical Telescope (SOT) consists of a 50cm aperture diffraction limited Gregorian telescope and a focal plane package, and provides quantitative measurements of full vector magnetic fields at the photosphere with spatial resolution of 0.2-0.3 arcsec in a condition free from terrestrial atmospheric seeing. The X-ray telescope (XRT) images the high temperature (0.5 to 10 MK) corona with improved spatial resolution of approximately 1 arcsec. The Extreme Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) aims to determine velocity fields and other plasma parameters in the corona and the transition region. The Solar-B telescopes, as a whole, will enable us to explore the origins of the outer solar atmosphere, the corona, and the coupling between the fine magnetic structure at the photosphere and the dynamic processes occurring in the corona. The mission instruments (SOT/EIS/XRT) are joint effort of Japan (JAXA/NAO), the United States (NASA), and the United Kingdom (PPARC). An overview of the spacecraft and its mission instruments are presented.
This paper aims to probe the effect of Rosa rugosa, Thunbergii which streptozotocin induced hyperglycemic rats was examined by glucose contents, body weight, kidney weight and histological observation. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The glucose level is decreased in the adminstered group of the Rosa rugosa compared with control group. These effects are in order named root group, stem group and leaf group group. BUN is increased fold of 1.52 in the control group compared with normal group, but the administered group of Rosa rugosa are decreased., in order named leaf group, root group and stem group. 2. The kidney hypertrophy to body weight is the higest in the control group compared with the other group in rats, and glucose contents are in order named stem group, leaf group and root group. 3. The loss of body weight is the highest in the control group, and the loss is in order named stem group, leaf group and root group in rats. 4. In histological observations, pancreatic pancreatic islets of control group shows disrupted or condensed nuclei, and the intercellular space between acini are enlarged. In the experimental group, histological damages of the acini and pancreatic islet are recovered compared with control group. Thes results suggest that the extracts of Rosa rugosa are effected to diabetes mellitus, root extract correlated with the function of kidney, and leaf extract is decreased plasma glucose.
The systolic and diastolic pressures in anesthetized Sprague-Dawley male rats were greatly decreased after single-dose of Cd treatment without significant changes in heart rate. There was a fluid-shift into the third space and/or -loss through the kidney, since plasma $Na^+$ concentration and hematocrit ratio were significantly increased by acute Cd exposure. The present study showed that the sustained hypotensive effect of single-dose Cd on the cardiovascular system might have resulted from the systemic hypovolemia. Furthermore, renal excretion of electrolytes, including $Na^+$ and $K^+$, and urine flow rate were increased by Cd intoxication. Interestingly, the ratio of $Na^+/K^+$ excretion was increased and reached the maximum level 3 hours after Cd injection and returned to the normal level after 7 hours. Nevertheless, there was no difference in the regression analysis of $Na^+$ excretion and urine flow rate in both groups. Therefore, the increase in the urine volume seemed to enhance the excretion of $Na^+$. This study strongly suggest that the hypotensive effect of Cd is mediated by systemic $Na^+$ loss through the kidney and/or hypovolemia via fluid-shift.
The output signal voltage of the pulsed ionization chamber (PIC) was measured for a range of electron density (10$^{13}$ -10$^{17}$ m$^{-3}$ ) of the 3He plasmas. This experimental data was in excellent agreement with the theory including space charge effects. As an application of the PIC techniques, two-body recombination coefficients were obtained with electron densities measured from output signal voltage of the PIC. These values as a function of pressure were in good agreement with theoretical predictions and ranged from 5$\times$10$^{-14}$ to 3$\times$10$^{-13}$ (㎥/sec) at 300$^{\circ}$K for 1 to 10 atmospheric $^3$He plasma.
AC PDP(P1asma Display Pane1)s use the mixture of inert gases to generate a discharge inside the display pixels. Impurities such as CO, $CO_2$ and OH inside discharge region may deteriorate the characteristics of PDP operation during long life time of PDP. Electro-negative gas such as CO can cause the sustain pulse amplitude to rise by attaching electrons which will play an important role in the earlier stage of the discharge. MgO film is used to protect the dielectric layer in AC PDP, and is in contact with the free space of display pixel where it is filled with the inert gas mixture. So, MgO film can be a main source of impurities. In this experiment, we observed the change of impurity generation of various MgO films which were deposited by different methods, by using QMS. (quadropole mass spectrometer) The main impurites were $H_2$, CO and $CO_2$. And with the comparison of the TPD (temperature programmed desorption) result, it can be understood that impurity gases are generated by sputtering of MgO surface not by outgassing. Deposition method had effects on the characteristics of the impurity generation. The MgO film manufactured by e-beam evaporation generated more amount of impurity gases than the MgO films manufactured by sputtering or ion-plating. And also heat treatment of MgO film after deposition decreased the magnitude of impurity gas generation.
