  • Verification of measurements is required for precise evaluation of turbine cycle performance in nuclear power plant. We assumed that initial acceptance data and design data of the plant could provide correlation information between performance data. The data can be used as sample sets for the correct estimation model of measurement value. The modeling was done practically by using regression model based on plant design data, plant acceptance data and verified plant performance data of domestic nuclear power plant. We can construct more robust performance analysis system for an operation nuclear power plant with this validation scheme.

  • Over the last five years, we have conducted research on risk assessment of domestically developed genetically modified (GM) crops and found a number of factors which could delay risk assessment process. In this review, we described such cases and discussed the problem of transgene cassette integration, the lack of information on vectors, the poor quality control in seed production and absence of bioinformatic analysis on amino acid sequence homology before GM crop development. To solve these problems, we have suggested the introduction of the screening system of elite event before risk assessment process and quality control strategies for GM seed production. In addition, we suggested that the developers of GM crops should understand the importance of risk assessment and management for the commercialization of those crops and consider the biological and ecological characteristics of host plants. Consistent communications may need to be established between GM crop developers, risk assessors and risk managers at the initial stages of GM crop development to reduce trial-and-errors.

  • The HACCP evaluation standards for the meat packaging plant are divided into general scale HACCP evaluation standard and small scale HACCP evaluation standard. There are 69 evaluation items in the general scale HACCP evaluation criteria, of which 54 items in the prerequisite management and 15 items in the HACCP management are included. The number of small scale HACCP evaluation items are 20 and about 29% of the general scale HACCP evaluation items. This may not be enough to produce a safety livestock products for the purpose of implementing the HACCP system due to the nature of the meat packaging plant, which does not show much difference in the production process or method of product depending on the scale. To improve the small scale HACCP evaluation standard, the importance of each item was compared with the small scale HACCP evaluation based on the rate of non-compliance and the severity levels in the general scale HACCP evaluation items. As a result of the study, 8 items were derived from the prerequisites management, 2 items were derived from the HACCP management, and some similar evaluation items were grouped together. Finally, 10 items were added to the 20 items of the existing small scale HACCP evaluation items. In this study, study on the safety management of domestic livestock products are continuously carried out, so that it is possible to provide safety livestock products to consumers and contributes to securing competitiveness of domestic livestock industry.

  • Four mosquito repellents, product A (aerosol), product B (liquid), product C (aerosol) and product D (lotion) were tested for their persistent repellency and quantity of DEET remained with the lapse was analyzed. In shirt term test with human (or 8 hours, product A (aerosol), product B (liquid), product C (aerosol) and product D (lotion) appeared over 95% repellency for eight, five, six and six hours. respectively. In long-term tests with shirt piece for 16 days, product A (aerosol) and product C (aerosol) showed 100% repellency for 10 days. In the assay of quantity of DEET remained in shirt pieces with the lapse of time, two products was decreased to the same pattern.

  • Andrographis stenophylla C. B. Clarke., (Acanthaceae) is an erect glabrous undershrub with very narrow leaves and stems from a stout rootstock, the corolla pale with dark red stripes. The plant grows in hills of about 1200 meters height in South India. No scientific work reports are available with regard to this plant. The present study, thus deals with the detailed pharmacognostical evaluation of the plant A. stenophylla using light and confocal microscopy, WHO recommended physico-chemical determinations and authentic phytochemical procedures. The physico-chemical, morphological and histological parameters presented in this paper may be proposed as parameters to establish the authenticity of A. stenophylla and can possibly help to differentiate the drug from its other species.

  • Lack of understanding of the process chemistry and thermodynamics are the major reasons that can is lead to thermal runaway reaction in the chemical reaction process. The evaluation of reaction factors and thermal behavior in neutralization process of pigment plant are described in this paper. The experiments were performed in the C 80 calorimeter, and Thermal Screening Unit($TS^{u}$). The aim of the study was to evaluate the results of thermal stability in terms of safety reliability to be practical applications. It suggested that we be proposed safe operating conditions and securities for accident prevention through this study.

  • The paper proposes reference model error feedback control scheme for motion control system with hard non-linear components as like saturation and dead-zone in plant input part. Additionally, the plant has the system uncertainty effected by plant model parameter deviation and disturbance. The control algorithm uses the reference model to apply additional feedback loop with the error between reference model output and actual output effected by disturbance and non-linear components. And the stability evaluation based on Popov stability and controller design method are formulated to be performed. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is examined by simulations. The results are proven by reasonable performances following reference model responses with good disturbance rejection performance without over-tuning of controller.

  • After Japanese Fukushima nuclear power plant accident caused by the beyond design basis earthquake and tsunami, it has turned to be a major challenge for nuclear safety. IAEA, US NRC and EU have provided new safety design standards for beyond design basis event, Domestic regulatory bodies have also enacted guidances for licensees and applicants on additional methods related to beyond design basis events. This paper describes several evaluation methods for applying to nuclear power plants piping for beyond design basis earthquake. As a results, energy method based on the absorbed energy on nuclear power plant, deterministic method following design code and theory, experience method considering past earthquake data and information and probabilistic methods similar to probabilistic risk assessment were reviewed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of oriental medicinal plant extracts added to chocolates on the moisture content, color, radical scavenging activity and sensory characteristics. The oriental medicinal plant extracts were added at a weight percentage of 0, 4 and 8%. As the ratio of the extracts in the chocolates increased, the moisture content, color, and radical scavenging activity increased. In sensory evaluation, significant differences (p<0.05) were shown in taste, bitterness, and overall acceptability depending on the addition of oriental medicinal plant extracts but there were no significant differences in chocolate aroma and texture.
