This paper presents the depth evaluation for object detection by automated assembling robots. Pattern distortion analysis from a structured light system identifies an object with the greatest depth from its background. An automated assembling robot should prior select and pick an object with the greatest depth to reduce the physical harm during the picking action of the robot arm. Object detection is then combined with a depth evaluation to provide contour, showing the edges of an object with the greatest depth. The contour provides shape information to an automated assembling robot, which equips the laser based proxy sensor, for picking up and placing an object in the intended place. The depth evaluation process using structured light for an automated electronics assembling robot is accelerated for an image frame to be used for computation using the simplest experimental set, which consists of a single camera and projector. The experiments for the depth evaluation process required 31 ms to 32 ms, which were optimized for the robot vision system that equips a 30-frames-per-second camera.

This paper aims to present a supervised classification algorithm based on data fusion for the segmentation of the textured images. The feature extraction method we used is based on discrete wavelet transform (DWT). In the segmentation stage, the estimated feature vector of each pixel is sent to the support vector machine (SVM) classifier for initial labeling. To obtain a more accurate segmentation result, two strategies based on information fusion were used. We first integrated decision-level fusion strategies by combining decisions made by the SVM classifier within a sliding window. In the second strategy, the fuzzy set theory and rules based on probability theory were used to combine the scores obtained by SVM over a sliding window. Finally, the performance of the proposed segmentation algorithm was demonstrated on a variety of synthetic and real images and showed that the proposed data fusion method improved the classification accuracy compared to applying a SVM classifier. The results revealed that the overall accuracies of SVM classification of textured images is 88%, while our fusion methodology obtained an accuracy of up to 96%, depending on the size of the data base.
Purpose In the textile industry, fabric defects significantly impact product quality and consumer satisfaction. This research seeks to enhance defect detection by developing a transformer-based deep learning image segmentation model for learning high-dimensional image features, overcoming the limitations of traditional image classification methods. Design/methodology/approach This study utilizes the ZJU-Leaper dataset to develop a model for detecting defects in fabrics. The ZJU-Leaper dataset includes defects such as presses, stains, warps, and scratches across various fabric patterns. The dataset was built using the defect labeling and image files from ZJU-Leaper, and experiments were conducted with deep learning image segmentation models including Deeplabv3, SegformerB0, SegformerB1, and Dinov2. Findings The experimental results of this study indicate that the SegformerB1 model achieved the highest performance with an mIOU of 83.61% and a Pixel F1 Score of 81.84%. The SegformerB1 model excelled in sensitivity for detecting fabric defect areas compared to other models. Detailed analysis of its inferences showed accurate predictions of diverse defects, such as stains and fine scratches, within intricated fabric designs.

In this paper, we implement robot which are ability to recognize obstacles and moving automatically to destination. we present two results in this paper; hardware implementation of image processing board and software implementation of visual feedback algorithm for a self-controlled robot. In the first part, the mobile robot depends on commands from a control board which is doing image processing part. We have studied the self controlled mobile robot system equipped with a CCD camera for a long time. This robot system consists of a image processing board implemented with DSPs, a stepping motor, a CCD camera. We will propose an algorithm in which commands are delivered for the robot to move in the planned path. The distance that the robot is supposed to move is calculated on the basis of the absolute coordinate and the coordinate of the target spot. And the image signal acquired by the CCD camera mounted on the robot is captured at every sampling time in order for the robot to automatically avoid the obstacle and finally to reach the destination. The image processing board consists of DSP (TMS320VC33), ADV611, SAA7111, ADV7l76A, CPLD(EPM7256ATC144), and SRAM memories. In the second part, the visual feedback control has two types of vision algorithms: obstacle avoidance and path planning. The first algorithm is cell, part of the image divided by blob analysis. We will do image preprocessing to improve the input image. This image preprocessing consists of filtering, edge detection, NOR converting, and threshold-ing. This major image processing includes labeling, segmentation, and pixel density calculation. In the second algorithm, after an image frame went through preprocessing (edge detection, converting, thresholding), the histogram is measured vertically (the y-axis direction). Then, the binary histogram of the image shows waveforms with only black and white variations. Here we use the fact that since obstacles appear as sectional diagrams as if they were walls, there is no variation in the histogram. The intensities of the line histogram are measured as vertically at intervals of 20 pixels. So, we can find uniform and nonuniform regions of the waveforms and define the period of uniform waveforms as an obstacle region. We can see that the algorithm is very useful for the robot to move avoiding obstacles.

In this paper, we present an efficient algorithm for region analysis of business card images acquired in a PDA by using DCT and information pixel density. The proposed method consists of three parts: region segmentation, information region classification, and text region classification. In the region segmentation, an input business card image is partitioned into 8 f8 blocks and the blocks are classified into information and background blocks using the normalized DCT energy in their low frequency bands. The input image is then segmented into information and background regions by region labeling on the classified blocks. In the information region classification, each information region is classified into picture region or text region by using a ratio of the DCT energy of horizontal and vertical edge components to that in low frequency band and a density of information pixels, that are black pixels in its binarized region. In the text region classification, each text region is classified into large character region or small character region by using the density of information pixels and an averaged horizontal and vertical run-lengths of information pixels. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields good performance of region segmentation, information region classification, and text region classification for test images of several types of business cards acquired by a PDA under various surrounding conditions. In addition, the error rates of the proposed region segmentation are about 2.2-10.1% lower than those of the conventional region segmentation methods. It is also shown that the error rates of the proposed information region classification is about 1.7% lower than that of the conventional information region classification method.
A boundary sequence can be a good representation of arbitrary shapes, because it can represent them simply and precisely. However, boundary sequences have not been used as a representation of arbitrary shapes, because the pixel-based shape-features such as area, centroid, orientation, projection and so forth, could not be computed directly from them. In this paper, we show that the shape-features can be easily computed from the boundary sequences by introducing the cross-sections that are defined as vertical (or horizontal) line segments in a shape. A cross-section generation method is proposed, which generates cross-sections of the shape efficiently by tracing the boundary sequence of the shape once. Furthermore, a boundary sequence extraction method is also proposed, which generates a boundary sequence for each shape in a binary image automatically The proposed methods work well even if a shape has holes. Eventually, we show that a boundary sequence can be used effectively for representing arbitrary shapes.

In This Paper, we find the Target Candidate Region and the Location of the Candidate Region by Performing the Morphological Difference Calculation and Pixel Labeling for Robust Small Target Detection in Infrared Image with low SNR. Conventional Target Detection Methods based on Morphology Algorithms are low in Detection Accuracy due to their Vulnerability to Clutter in Infrared Images. To Address the Problem, Target Signal Enhancement and Background Clutter Suppression are Achieved Simultaneously by Combining Moravec Algorithm and LCM (Local Contrast Measure) Algorithm to Classify the Target and Noise in the Candidate Region. In Addition, the Proposed Algorithm can Efficiently Detect Multiple Targets by Solving the Problem of Limited Detection of a Single Target in the Target Detection method using the Morphology Operation and the Gaussian Distance Function Which were Developed for Real time Target Detection.

In this paper, we propose an object detection method for real-time in infrared (IR) images and PowerPC (PPC) and H/W design based on field programmable gate array (FPGA). An open H/W architecture has the advantages, such as easy transplantation of HW and S/W, support of compatibility and scalability for specification of current and previous versions, common module design using standardized design, and convenience of management and maintenance. Proposed background modeling for an open H/W architecture design decreases size of search area to construct a sparse block template of search area in IR images. We also apply to compensate for motion compensation when image moves in previous and current frames of IR sensor. Separation method of background and objects apply to adaptive values through time analysis of pixel intensity. Method of clutter reduction to appear near separated objects applies to median filter. Methods of background modeling, object detection, median filter, labeling, merge in the design embedded system execute in PFC processor. Based on experimental results, proposed method showed real-time object detection through global motion compensation and background modeling in the proposed embedded system.

In this paper, we propose a human detection technique using thermal imaging camera. The proposed method is useful at night or rainy weather where a visible light imaging cameras is not able to detect human activities. Under the observation that a human is usually brighter than the background in the thermal images, we estimate the preliminary human regions using the statistical confidence measures in the gray-level, brightness histogram. Afterwards, we applied Gaussian filtering and blob labeling techniques to remove the unwanted noise, and gather the scattered of the pixel distributions and the center of gravities of the blobs. In the final step, we exploit the aspect ratio and the area on the unified object region as well as a number of the principal components extracted from the object region images to determine if the detected object is a human. The experimental results show that the proposed method is effective in environments where visible light cameras are not applicable.
This paper proposes an effective algorithm of Korean license plate recognition. By applying Haar-like feature and Canny edge detection on a captured vehicle image, it is possible to find a connected rectangular, which is a strong candidate for license plate. The color information of license plate separates plates into white and green. Then, OTSU binary image processing and foreground neighbor pixel propagation algorithm CLNF will be applied to each license plates to reduce noise except numbers and letters. Finally, through labeling, numbers and letters will be extracted from the license plate. Letter and number regions, separated from the plate, pass through mesh method and thinning process for extracting feature vectors by X-Y projection method. The extracted feature vectors are classified using neural networks trained by backpropagation algorithm to execute final recognition process. The experiment results show that the proposed license plate recognition algorithm works effectively.
