  • This paper proposes a high performance reversible watermarking (RW) scheme based on a novel compensation strategy. RW embeds data into a host image by modifying its pixel values slightly. It is found that certain modified pixels can be compensated to their original values during the proposed embedding procedure. The compensation effect in the RW scheme can improve the marked image quality significantly. By incorporating the pixel selection method, a higher quality image is obtained, which is verified by extensive experiments.

  • Hyperspectral cameras acquire reflectance values at many different wavelength bands. Dimensions tend to increase because spectral information is stored in each pixel. Several attempts have been made to reduce dimensional problems such as the feature selection using Adaboost and dimension reduction using the Simulated Annealing technique. We propose a novel material detection method that consists of four steps: feature band selection, feature extraction, SVM (Support Vector Machine) learning, and target and specific region detection. It is a combination of the band ratio method and Simulated Annealing algorithm based on detection rate. The experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed feature selection and band ratio method.

  • We deal with the target selection in seeker-detection image through network, using the detection information from aerial vehicle and the target information from surveillance and reconnaissance system. Especially, we constrain the sea battle environment, where it is difficult to perform scene-matching rather than land. In this paper, we suggest the target selection algorithm based on the confidence estimation with respect to distance and size. In detail, we propose the generation method of reference point for distance evaluation, and we investigate the effect of pixel margin and target course for size evaluation. Finally, the proposed algorithm is simulated and analyzed through several scenarios.

  • In an embedded system such as a drone, it is difficult to store, transfer and analyze the entire hyper-spectral image to a server in real time because it takes a lot of power and time. Therefore, the hyper-spectral image data is transmitted to the server through dimension reduction or compression pre-processing. Feature selection method are used to send only the bands for analysis purpose, and these algorithms usually take a lot of processing time depending on the size of the image, even though the efficiency is high. In this paper, by improving the temporal disadvantage of the band selection algorithm, the time taken 24 hours was reduced to around 60-180 seconds based on the 40000*682 image resolution of 8GB data, and the use of 7.6GB RAM was significantly reduced to 2.3GB using 45 out of 150 bands. However, in terms of pixel classification performance, more than 98% of analysis results were derived similarly to the previous one.

  • The knowledge of fuel load and composition is important for planning and managing the fire hazard and risk. However, fuel mapping is extremely difficult because fuel properties vary at spatial scales, change depending on the seasonal situations and are affected by the surrounding environment. Remote sensing has potential of reduction the uncertainty in mapping fuels and offers the best approach for improving our abilities. This paper compared the results of object-oriented classification to a pixel-based classification for fuel type map derived from Hyperion hyperspectral data that could be enable to provide this information and allow a differentiation of material due to their typical spectra. Our methodological approach for fuel type map is characterized by the result of the spectral mixture analysis (SMA) that can used to model the spectral variability in multi- or hyperspectral images and to relate the results to the physical abundance of surface constitutes represented by the spectral endmembers. Object-oriented approach was based on segment based endmember selection, while pixel-based method used standard SMA. To validate and compare, we used true-color high resolution orthoimagery

  • In this paper, we introduce a modulation code design problem where best selection of two-dimensional codewords are determined to reduce two-dimensional (2D) intersymbol interference (ISI) and interpage interference (IPI). Codeword selection problem is formulated as a quadratic integer programming model that minimizes intra- and inter-symbol differences subject to uniform symbol usage and minimal Hamming distance violations. Second integer programming model detects the occurrence of isolated pixel pattern in the selected codewords. The proposed models are applied to 4-level and 2-level 6/8 codes.

  • To solve the problem of transmission errors in stereoscopic images, this paper proposes a novel error concealment (EC) method using superpixel segmentation and adaptive disparity selection (SSADS). Our algorithm consists of two steps. The first step is disparity estimation for each pixel in a reference image. In this step, the numbers of superpixel segmentation labels of stereoscopic images are used as a new constraint for disparity matching to reduce the effect of mismatching. The second step is disparity selection for a lost block. In this step, a strategy based on boundary smoothness is proposed to adaptively select the optimal disparity which is used for error concealment. Experimental results demonstrate that compared with other methods, the proposed method has significant advantages in both objective and subjective quality assessment.

  • Multi-level holographic data storage is a candidate for the next generation data storage system, since it can store more than one bit per pixel. It is possible to increase the number of codewords if the number of levels is increased, and the code with an appropriate selection of codewords can also increase the minimum distance. In this paper, we propose three multi-level modulation codes of the code rate 1 bit/pixel and compare the performance according to the minimum distance. The result shows that the code with small number of levels is better than that of large number of levels because it is hard to detect threshold value.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel threshold selection method based on statistical information on gray-levels of given images and interval-valued fuzzy sets. In the proposed threshold selection method, the interval-valued fuzzy set is used to represent more definitely the relationship between a pixel and its belonging region, that is, the object and the background. Also the statistical information on gray-level is used to determine the rules and partitions of interval-valued fuzzy sets. To show the validity of the proposed method, we compared the performance of the proposed with those of conventional methods such as Otsu's method, Huang and Wang's method applied to 5 test images with various types of histograms.
