80년대에 들어와서 타이어 기업은 국제적인 재편에 피치를 올리고 있다. Dunlop/Pirelli 연합의 해체 및 Dunlop의 유럽 타이어 사업부문의 매각 등을 비롯한 Michelin의 대폭적자 등 여러가지 현상이 나타나고 있다. 본지에서는 세계 주요 타이어 메이커의 현상과 앞으로의 동향에 대해서 「Fortune Ranking」을 토대로 분석해 보고자 한다.<편집자 주>

세계의 자동차용 타이어업계는 "확대"냐 "철퇴"냐 하는 두갈래 길에 놓여있다. 과거 세계적으로 손꼽히던 큰 타이어 메이커로는 미국의 Goodyear, Firestone, Goodrich, Uniroyal ,General의 5대 메이커와 프랑스의 Michelin, 또 영국ㆍ이탈리아의 Dunlop-Pirelli 연합이었다. 그러나 73년과 78년의 2회에 걸친 석유파동을 겪은 후, 각사의 타이어 사업에 대한 계획이 첫째, 끝까지 주요생산품종으로 사업을 계속 확대한다. 둘째, 점차 타이어로부터 철퇴한다는 두 방향으로 흐르고 있다. Radial 타이어의 생산대비지연에다 세계적인 불황이 겹쳐 철퇴하는 방향을 택하고 있는 기업이 나타나고 있으므로 세계적으로 타이어 시장이 재편성 되는 실정에 있다.<편집자주>

본고는 해외 각국에서 발간되고 있는 고무 및 타이어세계 전문지들을 통하여 전해지는 해외주요 타이어 메이커의 최근동향을 살펴본 것이다. 수년 동안이나 업적이 계속 강화되어온 Firestone과 Pirelli의 업적이, 부채산성부문의 과감한 정리와 경영합리화로 차츰 회복단계에 있다고 하며, 영국의 Dunlop사에서도 계속체질개선에 꾸준히 노력하고 있으나 아직도 당분간 고전할 것으로 예측하고 있다. 한편 일본의 Bridgestone은 세계 제3위의 꿈을 실현하기 위하여 미국진출을 결정하고 한층 국제 전략을 강화하고 있다.

세계 각국의 노동자조직인 ICEF(세계화학에너지 일반노연)는 7월8일~10일까지 3일간 스위스 제네바에서 고무ㆍ플라스틱 부회 총회가 개최되었다. 동총회에는 미국, 서독, 영국, 프랑스, 이태리, 스웨덴, 일본 등 14개국에서 69명이 참석하여, ①투자, 고용, 단체교섭의 현황과 전망,②기술혁신의 도입과 생산공정에 관하여, ③다국적기업대책, ④직업위생문제와 ICEF 방침 등의 주요의제를 토의하였다. 이중 다국적기업대책에 대해서는 의안서중에서 본부가 「고무 산업과 대기업」(Goodyear, Michelin, Dunlop-Pirelli, Firestone, B.F. Goodrich, Bridgstone, Uniroyal)이라는 제하의 보고문을 정리한 것이 있어 이를 소개하고자 한다.<편집자주>

본자료는 세계 11개 주요 고무제품제조업체 (그 중 10개사는 82년도 매출액이 각각 10억 달러 이상임)의 재무상황과 최근의 영업실적을 분석한 것이다. 조사편의상 기업체들을 미국ㆍ유럽ㆍ일본의 3개 그룹으로 나누어 자료비교가 가능한 지난 82년도를 기준으로 분석했는데, 동년 총매출액 370억달러 중 미국이 53%, 유럽이 36%, 일본이 11%를 점하였다. 11개 업체는 Goodyear, Michelin,Pirelli, Firestone,Bridgestone, BF Goodrich, Dunlop, General Tire, Uniroyal, Continental, Yokohama 등인데, 이들이 모두 고무산업만을 하는 것은 아니다. 일본의 Sumitomo 사는 1983년에 Dunlop의 영국공장과 서독의 타이어공장을 사들이고, 84년에도 프랑스의 공장을 매입했지만 82년도 매출액이 7억 5,000만 달러에 불과하여 이번 분석대상에서 제외되었다. 각기업체 자료는 가급적 동일한 조건으로 취급하려 했지만, 각사의 정책상비밀로 하는 정보 때문에 제한을 받았다. 비교하기 쉽도록 하기 위하여 모든 금약은 미화 달러 기준으로 하였고, 자료는 대부분 각사의 결산보고서에 따른 것이다.

This paper reports a technique for measuring a three-dimensional soil deformation and a simplified method to determine the three-dimensional contact area of agricultural tires in a soil bin. A Pirelli 12.4R28 radial-ply tire was used on soft soil. Effects of dynamic load and inflation pressure were determined using the equipment for measuring soil deformation on the soil surface. Soil deformation measurements were made under three conditions of over-load (59kPa-14.2kN), rated-load (108kPa-11.8kN) and under-load (157kPa-9.3kN) in the combinations of the inflation pressures (kPa) and the tire load (kN). The results from three conditions were shown that the contact area of the over-load increased considerably bigger than those of the rated-load and the under-load. Therefore, to regulate soil deformation, the inflation pressure and the tire load should be set according to the soil conditions.

BACKGROUND: Three-dimensional (3D) transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) is the gold standard for the diagnosis of degenerative mitral regurgitation (dMR) and preoperative planning for transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVr). TEE is an invasive modality requiring anesthesia and esophageal intubation. The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 pandemic has limited the number of elective invasive procedures. Multi-detector computed tomographic angiography (MDCT) provides high-resolution images and 3D reconstructions to assess complex mitral anatomy. We hypothesized that MDCT would reveal similar information to TEE relevant to TMVr, thus deferring the need for a preoperative TEE in certain situations like during a pandemic. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed data on patients who underwent or were evaluated for TMVr for dMR with preoperative MDCT and TEE between 2017 and 2019. Two TEE and 2 MDCT readers, blinded to patient outcome, analyzed: leaflet pathology (flail, degenerative, mixed), leaflet location, mitral valve area (MVA), flail width/gap, anterior-posterior (AP) and commissural diameters, posterior leaflet length, leaflet thickness, presence of mitral valve cleft and degree of mitral annular calcification (MAC). RESULTS: A total of 22 (out of 87) patients had preoperative MDCT. MDCT correctly identified the leaflet pathology in 77% (17/22), flail leaflet in 91% (10/11), MAC degree in 91% (10/11) and the dysfunctional leaflet location in 95% (21/22) of patients. There were no differences in the measurements for MVA, flail width, commissural or AP diameter, posterior leaflet length, and leaflet thickness. MDCT overestimated the measurements of flail gap. CONCLUSIONS: For preoperative TMVr planning, MDCT provided similar measurements to TEE in our study.
