  • Roses are one of the most produced flower species in the world, and cut roses are produced in the greenhouses all year round. Recently, due to the increase in the temperature in the greenhouses in summer, the quality of cut roses is seriously deteriorated, such as shortening the stem length. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of the growing seasons on the qualities of cut roses and also to test the effect of cooling at night in high temperature season on the cut flower qualities of roses. Comparing the qualities and yields of cut roses for each season, the major cut flower qualities such as flower stem length, stem diameter and fresh weight were statistically significantly decreased in roses ('Pink Beauty' and 'Pink Shine') produced in summer. The yields didn't show a statistically significant difference in both cultivars. Investigating the cut flower qualities, the flower stem length increased by 15% for 'Pink Beauty', 11% for 'Ararat', and 12% for 'Pink Shine' when treated with cooling at night in warm season than the untreated control. In addition, when treated with cooling at night in warm season, the fresh weight of all three cultivars increased by 20-30% statistically significantly than conventionally cultivated control. It is expected that cooling at night in warm season will be helpful to improve the cut flower quality deterioration in summer.

  • Inflorescence of Allium thunbergii was found to be severely infected with Fusarium sp. The flower was covered with the fungus and eventually failed to form seeds. The causal fungus was identified as F. proliferatum(Matsushima) Nirenberg based on the cultural and morphological characteristics. Pathogenicity of the fungus was proved by artificial inoculation onto the healthy plants. This is the first record of this disease from Korea.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship between the personal color types and personality types and analyze the differences in color preference according to the personal color types and personality types. This study was conducted by using questionnaire method and drape diagnosis method in parallel. The results are as follows. First, in case of introversion (I), the summer type took the most and spring, fall, and winter type followed respectively. Also in the case of extroversion (E), the summer type took the most and spring, fall, and winter type followed respectively. Second, the spring type preferred yellow, the summer type, blue, the fall type, brown, and winter type, blue the most. For the preference of the tone of color, all 4 types preferred the pastel tones the most. For the lipstick colors, the spring and summer type preferred the pink color, the fall type, orange and winter type, red the most. For eye shadows, the spring type preferred orange, summer type, blue, fall type, orange and winter type, pink. For nail colors, all 4 types preferred pink the most. Third, the most preferred color for introversion (I) was red group. In contrast, the most preferred color for extroversion (E) was yellow group. In the tone of preferred colors, both introversion and extroversion preferred the pastel tones the most. In lipstick colors, eye shadow colors, and nail colors, both introversion and extroversion preferred the pink group colors the most.

  • It was grown Cubic $ZrO_2(10 mol% Y_2O_3)$ single crystals doped with 1 wt% rare earth metal oxides (RE=Ce, Pr, Nd, Eu, Er) by Skull method. It was investigated electrical properties on (111) plane of grown single crystals by Impedance Spectroscopy. It was potted relation between temperature and electrical conductivities and observed the transition at $약300-400^{\circ}$ It was obtained activation energy on the migration of oxygen vacancy between low temperature (before the transition) and high temperature (after the transition till ${\11}500^{\circ}$) and its difference can be seen the activation energy of the formation of oxygen vacancies by break up defect complexes. It was obtained the activation energy according as add yttria and rare earth metal oxides and discussed ionic conduction mechanism. Grown single crystals showed Ce: orange - red, Pr: golden - yellow, Nd: lilac, Eu: light pink, Er: pink due to dopant effect from the light absorption data in the visible range.

  • This article reports the result on the spectroscopic analysis of the three Lightbox CVD-grown diamonds. Lightbox Jewelry, a De Beers company, has begun selling CVD laboratory-grown diamonds since September 2018. Recently, we had the opportunity to examine three Lightbox's pendant necklaces. The 0.25 ct, 0.25 ct, and 0.26 ct round brilliant were graded as "H" near colorless, Fancy Vivid orangy pink, and Fancy Vivid blue with cut grades of excellent, respectively. The laser-inscribed Lightbox logo under the table, large enough to be easily visible with a microscope. Based on the spectroscopic techniques, for near colorless sample was not subjected to post-growth HPHT processing to improve its color. For pink sample, optical centers at H3, 3H, 594 nm, NV, and GR1 were recorded. It was speculated that the pink sample have been received irradiation and annealing. In addition, the blue CVD synthetic sample was concluded to be irradiated without annealing.

  • Pink snow mold, caused by Microdochium nivale, is a major disease on cool season turfgrasses in golf courses in northern Unites States. The relative susceptibility of 17 commercial cultivars of three bentgrass species (creeping, colonial and velvet bentgrass) to Microdochium nivale and the aggressiveness of M. nivale eight isolates obtained from infected turfgrasses on golf courses in Wisconsin were evaluated under controlled conditions. For the field trial, susceptibility of 2 year-old 12 commercial bentgrass cultivars was evaluated after inoculating three M. nivale isolates in the fields. There were significant differences in disease severities among the three bentgrass species, particularly between tetraploids (creeping and colonial) and diploid (velvet) species, and among cultivars within each species, indicating that there are varying levels of susceptibility in species and cultivars to M. nivale. Host resistance by days of cold hardening was confirmed, by detecting the resistance by 30 days of cold hardening treatments. In field trial, susceptibility of 12 bentgrass cultivars was highly correlated to the results obtained from growth chamber experiments. The positive correlation of the susceptibility between growth chamber experiments and field trials demonstrates that the growth chamber method is a useful technique for saving time, space and labor to evaluate efficiently pink snow mold susceptibility of bentgrass cultivars. This study could be applied to evaluating susceptibility of bentgrass to pink snow mold and also predicting a prospective evaluation of bentgrass cultivars to pink snow mold in fields in a breeding program.

  • In high temperature ceramic glazes, a stable range of pink-red colors that produced $Cr_2O_3-SnO_2-CaO-SiO_2$ pigments were factored by Cassiterite($SnO_2$) and Malayaite($CaSnSiO_5$) by $Cr_2O_3$. The experiment examined the influence of $CrCl_3$, a Sn-Cr substitution added with a mineralizer ($H_3BO_3$), as a chromophore in pigments. The experiment also studied the effect of $H_3BO_3$ (2 wt%) when added to malayaite($CaSnSiO_5$) to see if the crystalline reaction will increase. $Cr_2O_3$ was also substituted with $CrCl_3$ in order to prove how much influence $CrCl_3$ had on the $H_3BO_3$. Malayaite and cassiterite were the basic compound materials and the experiment was conducted both with and without mineralizers (2 wt% of $H_3BO_3$). Each compound was synthesized at 800, 1000, 1200, 1300, 1400, $1500^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. Synthesized pigments were analyzed by XRD, FT-IR and UV-Vis. The temperature variation produced two crystal phases that showed the different engaging effects of Cr oxidation. $CrCl_3$ produced a better effect on the malayaite crystal phase, resulting in a more defined pigmentation of the pink-red coloration compared to $Cr_2O_3$.
