단층지진원 확률론적 지진재해도 분석에 관한 고찰 (Review on Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis of Capable Faults)

  • The probabilistic seismic hazard analysis for engineering needs several active fault parameters as input data. Fault slip rates, the segmentation model for each fault, and the date of the most recent large earthquake in seismic hazard analysis are the critical pieces of information required to characterize behavior of the faults. Slip rates provide a basis for calculating earthquake recurrence intervals. Segmentation models define potential rupture lengths and are inputs to earthquake magnitude. The most recent event is used in time-dependent probability calculations. These data were assembled by expert source-characterization groups consisting of geologists, geophysicists, and seismologists evaluating the information available for earth fault. The procedures to prepare inputs for seismic hazard are illustrated with possible segmentation scenarios of capable fault models and the seismic hazards are evaluated to see the implication of considering capable faults models.

The effects of consolidation time on the strength and failure behavior of freshwater ice rubble

  • Medium-scale tests were conducted to measure and observe the strength and failure behavior of freshwater ice rubble. A custom box measuring $3.05m{\times}0.94m{\times}0.94m$, with Plexiglas walls was built so that failure mechanisms could be observed. Ice rubble beams of nominal thickness 50 cm were produced by placing randomly sized ice pieces into the box filled with water at its freezing temperature. After the specified consolidation time, ranging between 0.2 and 70.5 h, the ice rubble beam was deformed by pushing a platen vertically downwards though the center of the beam until failure. For consolidation times less than 4 h, the ice beam failed progressively and tended to fail by shearing on macroscopic scale. At times greater than 4 h the beam failed by bending. The change in failure behaviour has been attributed to the degree of bonding between ice blocks.

  • Eukaryotic cilia are organelles that project from the surface of cells to fulfill motility and sensory functions. In vertebrates, the functions of both motile and immotile cilia are critical for embryonic development and adult tissue homeostasis. Importantly, a multitude of human diseases is caused by abnormal cilia biogenesis and functions which rely on the compartmentalization of the cilium and the maintenance of its protein composition. The transition zone (TZ) is a specialized ciliary domain present at the base of the cilium and is part of a gate that controls protein entry and exit from this organelle. The relevance of the TZ is highlighted by the fact that several of its components are coded by ciliopathy genes. Here we review recent developments in the study of TZ proteomes, the mapping of individual components to the TZ structure and the establishment of the TZ as a lipid gate.

건성 와이어방전가공 프로세스 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Characteristics of Dry Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) Process)

  • This study investigates the non-traditional manufacturing process of dry wire electrical discharge machining (EDM) in which liquid dielectric is replaced by a gaseous medium. Wire EDM experiments of thin workpieces were conducted both in wet and dry EDM conditions to examine the effects of spark cycle (T), spark on-time ($T_{on}$), thickness of work pieces, and work material on machining performance. The material removal rate (MRR) in the dry wire EDM case was much lower than that in the wet wire EDM case. In addition, the thickness of workpiece and work-material were found to be critical factors influencing the MRR for dry EDM process. The relative ratios of spark, arc and short circuit were also calculated and compared to examine the effectiveness of processes of dry and wet wire EDM.

  • Applications of the digital computers in the control systems are not new. But when one tries to integrate the control system with a digital computer to form a feedback loop, he has to solve a great deal of problems in both hardware and software aspects. Such problems are investigated in this paper. For the hardware aspect, one has to design interfaces for both ADC and DAC. Since these are absolutely necessary pieces of hardware, one can notavoid from using them. The interface which employ the programmed data transfer method was designed for this research. For the software aspect, one has to build models for the digital compensator and the controlled system. In order to do that it is necessary to utilize the real time clock and to write his own interrupt service routine. As a sample case, a deadbeat compensator was desinged and tested.

의복의 과시소비성향 및 관련변수와 의복구매행동과의 관계 연구 - 여대생을 중심으로 - (A Study on the Influential Factors of Clothing Conspicuous Consumption and Clothing Purchasing Behaviors)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the influential factors of clothing conspicous consumption, and the relationship between these consumer characteristics and clothing purchasing behaviors. The influential factors of clothing conspicous consumption are defined materialism, sensation seeking tendency and demographic characteristics. And clothing purchasing behavior can be defined such as fashion leadership, impulsive purchasing behaviors, bargain sale purchasing, and the price and total pieces of clothing. The data were collected from 320 female students of university using questionnaire, and were analysed with frequency, %, multiple regression, ANOVA and Duncan test. Reresults can be summerized as follows. First, clothing conspicous consumption was not influenced to sensation seeking tendency but materialism. Second, the sensation seeking tendency, materialism and clothing conspicous consumption was proven to be partially related to the clothing purchasing behaviors. Third, the demographic characteristics have influenced on the sensation seeking tendency, materialism, clothing conspicous consumption and clothing purchasing behaviors.

  • To analyze the design of Christian Dior, 216 pieces of Dior's works were collected and studied from the COLLECTION(Seoul: Dong Ah TV) from 2003 to 2005. The result is as follows. In recent three year period, Christian Dior maintained the feminine image and implemented different additions such as sexy, ethnic, avant-garde and casual image in every season. Also, to reflect a new trend or fashion sense, images of ethnic, retro, hippie or vintage were applied. In using color, different main color(YR, R, Y, BG, RP, B) were chosen every season to pursue variations. For the pattern usage, feminine beauty was presented by numerous applications of flowered pattern. Also the practice of pattern and hue in different rations in every season pursued variations in design.

PZT 특성에 미치는 불순물의 영향(I) (Effects of Impurity on Properties of PZT(I))

  • A new perovskite type compound, (Pb1a-χKy□χ-y) (Zr0.33Ti0.67)O3-χ+y/2 was proposed and synthesized by "Wet-Dry Combination Technique". This defect ferroelectric material was characterized by partial substitutions of K+ for Pb+2 in Pb(Zr0.33Ti0.67)O3. This material was mono-phasic perovskite compound at 800℃ for 1hr., but ZrO2 was more or less isolated from the (Pb1a-χKy□χ-y) (Zr0.33Ti0.67)O3-χ+y/2. As a result, snitering temperature, sintered density, curie temperature, and dielectric constant of test pieces decreased and a-axis was nearly constant, while c-axis gradually decreased with the value x in the region of tetragonal phase of PZT. It was also recognized that the defect structure caused by adding K+ was found in both A-site cation and O-site anion vacancies in the defect PZT.

Optimum PP Fiber Dosage for the Control of Spalling of High Strength Reinforced Concrete Columns

  • Spalling is defined as damages to concrete exposed to high temperature during fire, causing cracks and localized bursting of small pieces of concrete. As the concrete strength increases, the degree of damage caused by spalling becomes more serious due to impaired permeability. It is reported that polypropylene(PP) fiber has an important role in protecting concrete from spalling, and the optimum dosage of PP fiber is 0.2%. However, this study was conducted on non-reinforced concrete specimens. The high-temperature behavior of high-strength reinforced concrete columns with various concrete strength and various quantity of PP fibers is investigated in this study. The results revealed that the ratio of unstressed residual strength of columns increased as the concrete strength increased and as the quantity of PP fiber increased from 0% to 0.2%. However, the effect of PP fiber quantity on residual strength of column was barely above 0.2%.

English Middles as Categorical Sentences

  • Stroik (1992, 1995, 1999) argues for the syntactic approach to English middles. His argumentation is heavily dependent upon the occurrence of a for-phrase in middles. However, many native speakers of English judge middles containing a for-phrase awkward or at best marginal. In addition, some other adverbials show a trait of a very similar nature. These two observational facts seem to justify the Genericity Constraint on Middles (=GCM). Yet a third observational fact that middles in the past tense can be sporadic nullifies GCM. In the present article, based upon several pieces of evidence, I show that the subject of the middle is a topic. In addition, it is argued that the Topical Subject Constraint on Middles can explain away the three observational facts.
