  • PURPOSE: This study aims to review the FUNfitness program, conducted by physical therapists as part of the Special Olympics Athlete Health Promotion Program, to provide basic data for the health management of individuals with intellectual disabilities. METHODS: This study collected and organized materials related to the Special Olympics Athlete Health Promotion Program, as well as training manuals for FUNfitness. Additionally, it referenced activity reports of the FUNfitness program developed through the collaboration between the American Physical Therapy Association and the Special Olympics. RESULTS: The results of this study present the definition and composition of the Special Olympics Athlete Health Promotion Program, its objectives, the definition and design objectives of the FUNfitness program, the composition and evaluation procedures of the testing and assessment items, and recommendations for referral for additional physical therapy interventions following FUNfitness education. CONCLUSION: This article describes the importance of physical therapists understanding physical therapy screening and management for the health care of individuals with intellectual disabilities, emphasizing the need for their continuous interest in promoting the health of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was compare the effect of core muscle strengthening between core exercise on stable surface and core exercise on unstable surface. Methods: Thirty-nine adults participated in this study and were randomly allocated to three groups. The stable surface exercise group and unstable surface exercise groups practiced core muscle training for $3{\times}30minute$ sessions over a 4-week period. The control group did not received therapeutic intervention except pre and post test. The following clinical tools were used to assess core muscle strength and balance: Side Plank Test, Trunk Flexion Test, Balance Error Scoring Test, Core Muscle Stength & Stability Test. Results: The stable surface exercise group showed significant improvement in trunk muscle strength of anterolateral part as revealed by the Side Plank Test and Trunk flexion Test(p<.05). The unstable surface exercise group showed significant improvement in trunk muscle strength of anterolateral part and balance ability as revealed by the Balance Error Scoring Test and Core Muscle Strength & Stability Test(p<.05). Conclusion: The results of this study, both core exercise on stable surface and core exercise on unstable surface induced core muscle strengthening and balance ability. Expecially core exercise on unstable surface more effective to core muscle strengthening and balance ability.

  • The hand is a very specialized organ that functions to obtain information and to execute motor acts essential to human interaction with the environment. Loss of hand function through infections affects the mechanical tasks that the hand performs and psychological adjustments to their disability. Infection is a disastrous complication of hand injuries and adequacy of circulation is of greatest importance to prevention of infection. Careful debridement, incision, and adequate drainage and antibacterial treatment are of great importance. Optimal care of the infected hand demands that carefully surgical care, early postoperative exercises and other therapy. Hand rehabilitation has grown as a specialty area of both physical and occupational therapy. It is essential that the surgeon and therapist work together, and communicate freely-all of which generally require daily contact. Treating the psychological loss suffered by the patient with a hand infections is an integral part of the rehabilitation therapy as well. Treatment techniques, Whether thermal modalities or specifically designed exercises, are used as a bridge to reach a further goal of returning to functional performance.

  • Orthopedic medicine specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. The physical therapy speciality, Orthopedic Manipulative Therapy(OMT) is an important part of orthopedic medicine. Much of OMT is devoted to the evaluation and treatment of joint and related soft tissue disorders and one of the primary treatment methods is mobilization. When examination reveals joint dysfunction, especially decreased range of motion, joint mobilization techniques are often utilized. Soft tissue mobilization techniques are used to improve mobility and other soft tissues. The therapist should have precautions for a patient. These precautions are based on the patient's concurrent medical and surgical diagnosis. Lastly, the literature describing therapeutic interventions in patients with musculoskeletal problem is poor because the painful conditions are poorly characterized and the therapeutic interventions are poorly described; so, where Kaltenborn-Evjenth concept for patient with musculoskeletal problem were identified, the treatment concept are introduced.

  • This study has been aimed at figuring out the fact that four kinds of body type grouped according to the tilting of scapular of upper extremity and ilium of low extremity showed the mobility increase for joint parts and the limitation. When we make a thrapy plan which should be comprehensive and general in preventative management and therapy. For the sake of patients who have spinal disabilities including low back pains, it is required for many joints distributing among upper and lower extremity to have hypermobility and hypomobility based on regulation. So, this study was conducted to establish a standard for the effective pattern of hypermobility or hypomobility. I hope that the result of this study can help support the practics of physical therapy as a part of scientic method. Especially I think it will be able to be conductive to those who major in physical therapy on the arthrogenic region.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the norepinephrine-induced nociceptive effects by monitoring catecholamines and its metabolites in human body. Methods: To exam the antisympathetic effect from the healthy volunteer(male:15, female:15) by monitoring changes of epinephrine, norepinephrine, dopamine, metanephrine, normetanephrine, and others of urine, a comparative study with warm water immersion ($40.8{\pm}0.3^{\circ}C$) and infrared (250W) was carried out. Results: The urinalysis showed that the concentration of epinephrine and norepinephrine were significantly decreased by both warm water immersion-and infrared-stimulated group of urine in 24 hours. Conclusion: Therefore, these results suggest that the diminished responsiveness on the epinephrine and norepinephrine to warm water immersion and infrared in volunteer may be, in part, related by the increased of antisympathetic effects.

Results : Korea traditional manual therapy is a species Koryo medicine that is prevention and treatment a disease stimulated in body one part by hand. It has included yacson, doin, sooki, massage, digital compression and chuna. And trend of manual therapy cover the whole medical in Europe, but America has two categories which is the neurologic manual therapy and the orthopedic manual therapy. Conclusion : Korea had been accepted manual therapy which was operated in foreign. This foreign manual therapy was very similar to korea. So it is necessity for a systematic and comparative study for korea traditional manual therapy.

  • Fundamental properties and surface treatment effects of domestic kaolin calcined at higher temperature were studied to develop reinforcing fillers for rubbers. The results obtained are as follows: (i) X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy studies revealed kaolinite as a major constituent of the raw kaolin used in this study. (ii) Physical properties of natural rubber vulcanizates compounded with the calcined kaolin fillers treated with poly(maleic anhydride) and sodium polyphosphate are favorably improved. Particularly, the kaolin filler treated with sodium polyphosphate(designated as PT series) shows excellent physical properties compared with hydrated silica.
