  • A numerical method for treating transient diffusion Involving change of phase is presented. In other methods of dealing with this class of problems, the mass flux balance at the moving phase boundary requires explicit treatment of two distinct phases. The technique, originating from the apparent heat capacity method in transient heat conduction with the phase change, avoids the difficulty by transferring the concentration discontinuity at the boundary to smoothed physical property variations near the moving front. This technique accomodates the nonlinearities which preclude use of analytical solutions. It was tested against known analytical solutions for simple cases and turned out to be quite accurate.

  • The numerical experiments using a particle tracking model have been performed for predicting the change of water Quality and shoreline. In present study, comparison of the numerical model results with the analytic solution shows that the point of the mainmum concentration and the distribution pattern is very similar. The reflection effect from the boundary was newly Introduced for making clear the effect of the closed boundary which set limits to application of a particle tracking model. The present model seems to reappear physical phenomenon well. This model shows well qualitative appearance of pollutant diffusion in Kwangan beach. Therefore, this model is regarded as a useful means for predicting diffusion movement of suspended sand, and change of water quality.

  • This paper presents a triangular-to-quadrilateral mesh conversion method that can control the directionality of the output quadrilateral mesh according to a user-specified vector field. Given a triangular mesh and a vector field, the method first scores all possible quadrilaterals that can be formed by pairs of adjacent triangles, according to their shape and directionality. It then converts the pairs into quadrilateral elements in order of the scores to form a quadrilateral mesh. Engineering analyses with finite element methods occasionally require a quadrilateral mesh well aligned along the boundary geometry or the directionality of some physical phenomena, such as in the directions of a streamline, shock boundary, or force propagation vectors. The mesh conversion method can control the mesh directionality according to any desired vector fields, and the method can be used with any existing triangular mesh generators.

  • Recently considerations of the location and sizes of hospitals and healthcare facilities in a region have increased in Korea. So, this study aims to explore the physical conditions of hospitals and healthcare facilities in a large scale as well as a middle scale medical service boundary. Through the analysis of existing data of the facilities, it was revealed that most of the facilities tend to concentrate in large cities. In sum, the useful data were collected, analyzed, and synthesized through this study and could be used in the relevant research in the future as reference informations.

  • Design of shape fur visco-elastic vibration isolation elements, which are very cost-effective and so popular in many applications is fi?equently based on experiences, intuitions, or trial and errors. Such traditions in shape design make it difficult for drastic changes or new concepts to come out. In this paper, both topological method and shape optimization method are combined together to find out a most desirable isolator shape efficiently by using two commercial engineering programs, ABAQUS and MATLAB. The procedure is divided into two steps. At the first step, a topology optimization method is employed to find an initial shape, where density of either 0 or 1 for finite elements is used fur physical realizability. At the second step, based on the initial shape, finer tuning of the shape is done by boundary movement method. An illustration of the procedure is presented fur a mount of an air-conditioner compressor system and the effectiveness is discussed.

  • A numerical method is suggested for evaluating the singular integral of curved panels in the higher-order boundary element method. Two-step mapping procedures that are significantly related to the physical properties of singular behaviors were developed and illustrated. As a result, the singular behaviors were significantly alleviated, and the efficiency and robustness of the present method for tangentially and axially deformed elements were proven. However, inaccuracies and numerical instabilities of twisted elements were discovered as a result of nonlinearities.

  • This investigation in fluid mechanics surrounds around the variety of flow problems for different fluids along the stretching cylinder. Numerical procedure is carried out for the obtained resultant equations by Keller-Box technique. Numerical study of laminar, steady, viscous and incompressible two dimensional boundary layer flow of effects of suction and blowing on boundary layer slip flow of Casson fluid along permeable exponentially stretching cylinder has been carried out in the present draft. physical parameters i.e., Nusselt number and skin friction coefficient, suction parameter and the local Reynold number are investigated on velocity profile and elaborated through proper graphs and table.

  • In this work, dynamic stability analysis of the ball after contacting with the earth in the volleyball game is presented. Via spherical shell coordinate, the governing equations and general boundary conditions of the ball after contacting with the earth in the volleyball game is studied. Via Comsol multi-physics simulation, some results are presented and a verification between the outcomes is studied. Harmonic differential quadrature method (HDQM) is utilized to solve the dynamic equations with the aid of boundary nodes of the current spherical shell structure. Finally, the results demonstrated that thickness, mass of the ball and internal pressure of the ball alters the frequency response of the structure. One important results of this study is influence of the internal pressure. Higher internal pressure causes lower frequency and hence reduces the stability of the ball.

  • Hockey games attracts many fans around the world. This game requires a specific type of ball and a stick for controlling the motion and trace of the ball. This control of motion involves hitting the ball which is a direct intensive dynamic loading. The impact load transferred directly to the hand of the player and in the professional player may cause long term medical problems. Therefore, dynamic motion of the stick should be understood. In the current study, we analyze the dynamic motion of a hockey stick under impact loading from a hockey ball. In doing so, the stick geometry is simplified as a beam structure and quasi-2D relations of displacement is applied along with classical linear elasticity theory for isotropic materials. The governing equations and natural boundary condition are extracted using Hamilton's principle. The final equations in terms of displacement components are solved using Galerkin's numerical method. The results are presented using indentation and contact force values for variations of different parameters.

  • This study attempted to comparative analysis about the physical and morphological damage degrees of hair according to the bleaching methods by $H_2O_2$ concentration. As a result of the changes in the physical characteristics of the hair according to the deceleration operation methods by 3-6-9% and 9% $H_2O_2$ concentration, the intensity of tension considerably decreased but the elongation was increased. And the more the damage of hair, the larger the degree of change. Regarding the method of deceleration operation, the 3-6-9% deceleration operation method was more damaging than the 9% single deceleration operation method. In the change of the characteristics of the form of the hair, the control group of the 5-level deceleration hair generally showed a smooth external appearance and regular and closely overlapped epidermis and undamaged cuticle were observed. But in the 3-6-9% deceleration operation method and 9% single deceleration operation method, damages such as the irregular form of the edge of the epidermis and the unclear boundary between the epidermis occurred.
