Purpose: This study examined the associations of job stress and burnout with the quality of life (QOL) among 119 emergency medical technicians (EMTs). Methods: Using a descriptive correlational design, 260 EMTs working in D City or S City completed the questionnaires. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was conducted to determine the predictors of QOL among 119 EMTs. Results: Overall, there was relatively low job stress among 119 EMTs. There were significant differences in job stress and burnout by general characteristics, especially regarding those of gender, service career, job rank, and self-reported health. In a hierarchical multiple regression, general characteristics explained 29% of QOL (Model I, F=16.369, p<.001). The explanatory power for QOL increased to 49% upon adding job stress (Model II, F=18.737, p<.001), and 59% upon adding burnout (Model III, F=22.621, p<.001). In the last model, self-reported health (${\beta}=.316$, p<.001), job demand (${\beta}=-.130$, p=.009), job insecurity (${\beta}=-.136$, p=.010), lack of reward (${\beta}=-.189$, p=.001), emotional exhaustion (${\beta}=-.196$, p=.004) and lack of personal accomplishment (${\beta}=-.334$, p<.001) were significant predictors of QOL among 119 EMTs. Conclusion: Based on the results, it is necessary to assess and manage job stress and burnout systematically among EMTs, and to develop health improvement programs for better QOL.

Background: Physician behaviors that undermine a culture of safety have gained increasing attention as health-care organizations strive to create a culture of safety and reduce medical errors. We developed, implemented, and assessed a course to teach physicians skills regarding effective coping and interpersonal communication skills and present our results regarding outcomes. Methods: We examined a professional development program specifically designed to address unprofessional or distressed behaviors of physicians, and we evaluated the impact on burnout, quality of life, and emotional flooding scores of the physicians. Assessments of burnout, quality of life, and emotional flooding were assessed preintervention and postintervention. Results: Results demonstrated statistically significant reductions over time in physicians' emotional flooding and emotional exhaustion (EE). Specifically, using a Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test, results revealed that flooding scores at follow-up were statistically significantly lower than at baseline, V = 590, p < 0.05, and EE and personal accomplishment distributions were found to significantly deviate from normal as indicated by Shapiroe-Wilks tests (p < 0.05). A Wilcoxon signed-rank test indicated that EE scores were significantly higher at baseline compared to follow-up 1, V = 285, p < 0.05. Conclusion: We conclude that the physician participants who enrolled in the educational skills training program improved scores on emotional flooding and EE and that this may be indicative of improved skills related to their experiences and learning in the program. These improved skills in physicians may have a positive impact on the overall culture of safety in the health system setting.
This study is about a life history. Through investigating the life of retired teachers in preschool, elementary, and middle schools, authors wanted to explore the meaning of retirement and the process of adaptation to find out their personal and social needs in post-retirement life. Studies have shown that their experiences at childhood have greatly influenced the performance of one's profession, such as contributing to setting limits on behaviors of their students. In the period of interdependence, they have contributed to serving society and the nation beyond as a professional, and in the second half of his teaching career, they have learned that their painful experience was a resource and have realized that changing mind can make the world changed. Since teachers' behavior affects on many subjects unlike other jobs, rewards or satisfaction from the job was bigger than any other jobs. However, after retirement, they felt a sense of emptiness in life without any sense of belonging or accomplishment, while feeling happiness and infinite freedom in other hand. The study was conducted to identify and clarify the conceptual definitions and attributes of caregiving satisfaction in family caregivers of patients with dementia. The hybird model was used to perform the concept analysis of caregiving satisfaction. Results from both the theoretical review and a field study including 7 participants were included in final process. The concept of caregiving satisfaction was found to have three dimensions with seven attributes. Caregiving satisfaction by family caregivers of patients with dementia was defined as positive of aspects of caregiving usually experienced in three dimensions such as interpersonal dimensions (accomplishing a duty, reciprocity, strengthening of the relationship), role performance dimensions (feeling of accomplishment, emotional reward, emotional comfort) and meaning of role dimensions (positive meaning-making). Based on the results, a tool for measuring caregiving satisfaction among Koreans family caregivers of patients with dementia and effective programs for enhancing caregiving satisfaction should be developed in future studies.

The purpose of this study is to understand how emotional labor of hairdresser effects job burnout and turnover intention. In order to achieve this study, the data is collected from questionnaires distributed to employees of beauty shops of Gwangju and Jeonam using convenience sampling method. A total of 356 questionnaires were used for the research. Survey data is analyzed by SPSS win 21.0 program. The research findings are as follows. First, the emotional labor of hairdresser is classified by the surface action and deep action. Also, job burnout of hairdresser is classified by the emotional exhaustion, reduced personal accomplishment and depersonalization. Second, the effect of emotional labor of hairdressers on job burnout have the significant influence. Third, the effect of emotional labor of hairdressers on turnover intention have the significant influence. Fourth, the effect of job burnout of hairdressers on turnover intention have the significant influence. These results suggest that programs to lower emotional labor should be focused on developments to improve the quality of beauty services.
This study verifies the impact of emotional labor of online shopping mall call center counselor on customer orientation and the medium effect of job burnout. The study targets call center counselors from four companies that operate online shopping malls, and 271 copies are used for final data analysis. The results are as follows. First, deep action, a subfactor of emotional labor, has shown to have a significant positive effect on customer orientation. Second, the deep action of emotional labor has shown to have a negative effect on depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment, while the surface action has a positive effect on job exhaustion and depersonalization. Third, deep action of emotional labor is found to increase customer orientation through depersonalization and reduced personal achievement, which are sub-factors of job burnout, while surface action of emotional labor is mediated by depersonalization, lowering customer orientation. The results of this study confirm that it is necessary to increase deep action and reduce job burn-out in order to improve customer orientation. Also, it is meaningful that the study verifies the role and the mediating effect of job burn-out.

This study aimed to identify the relationship among employee-focused and job-focused emotional labor, emotional leadership, and burnout among emergency room nurses. Data were collected from 168 emergency nurses working at general hospitals in one metropolitan city and analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient using the SPSS/WIN program. According to the results, the mean scores of the employee-focused emotional labor scale were 3.51 points for superficial acting and 3.26 for deep acting. The mean score of the job-focused scale was 3.73 for frequency of emotional surface, 3.36 for duration of interpersonal interactions, and 3.46 for variety of emotional expressions. The mean score of the emotional leadership scale was 3.57, and the mean scores of the burnout were 4.59 for emotional exhaustion, 4.13 for depersonalization, and 3.60 for diminished personal accomplishment. Job-focused emotional labor scores were higher than employee-focused scores. Superficial acting and frequency of interactions in emotional labor were the most frequently performed by emergency nurses. Employee-focused and job-focused emotional labor showed a significantly partial correlation with emotional leadership and burnout. Based on the results, future research needs to develop effective strategies for managing emotional labor and burnout of nurses working in emergency rooms.
In this study, it was compared how different the adjustment, self-perception, social support and stress between science-gifted children and general children, and the difference between gifted boys and girls. And it was identified what are the effects on stress of science-gifted children. The subjects were 89 science-gifted children of the first grade in Middle School at JeonJu. Science-gifted students in this study were identified through the teacher nomination and CNU(ChonbukNational University) Science & Math Tests. We used the standard object as the comparative group (general children). The results of this study were as follow; First, all personal-adjustment and social-adjustment domains, self-perception and teacher support of science-gifted children were significantly higher than those of general children. All disadjustment domains, parent support and friend support of science-gifted children were significantly lower than those of general children. Second, the self-planning, prejudice, social competence, behavioral conduct, global self worth, parent support, teacher support and classmate support of the science-gifted children had the significant difference according to the gender. Third, the motive of accomplishment, self-planning, attachment and social-affirmation of the science-gifted children correlated negatively with their stress. Fourth, the social competence, athletic competence, physical appearance, behavioral conduct, global self worth and social support of the science-gifted children correlated negatively with their stress. The global self worth of the science-gifted children had the significant difference according to the variables such as teacher support, close friend support, parent support and classmate support in the other of name. The most influential factor was teacher support. The stress of the science-gifted children had the significant difference according to the variables such as parent support, close friend support and global self worth in the other of name. The most influential factor was parent support.

Few studies have examined burnout among the faculty of medical schools in the Republic of Korea. The aim of this study was to determine the level of burnout and its associated factors among the faculty members of three medical schools in the Busan-Gyeongnam area, and to summarise the available literature on burnout. We conducted the survey using a validated questionnaire that incorporated the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS) as well as questions about demographic characteristics, working experience, health, lifestyle, most time spent and most difficult work, and suicidal ideation and job quitting ideation of the survey participants. MBI-HSS scores were analysed in the three dimensions of emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (De), and personal accomplishment (PA). Through the survey, the 186 professors, 49% among the total, provided data which were included in the present analysis. More than thirty per cent (37.1%) of the professors reported at least 1 symptom of burnout. For burnout dimensions, 11.8% of the respondents scored high for EE burnout, 25.3% for De, and 14.5% for PA, with 1.6% scoring high on all three dimensions of burnout. High burnout was found to be strongly associated with several of the variables under study, especially hours worked per week, self-rated health, career (range, 4 to 9 years), and age (range, 50 to 59 years). The EE score was highest for the professors who chose 'patient care' as the most difficult type of work. This study showed that just over one-third of professors have at least 1 symptom of burnout and working more hours per week, short length of work (years), and especially suicidal ideation seem to be associated with the burnout of medical school faculty members in the Busan-Gyeongnam area. In summary, a greater risk of burnout of physicians (including medical professors) seems to be associated with specialties at the front line of care, working more hours per week, work-life imbalance, low self-efficacy, depression, and conflicts with colleagues and patients.
Purpose: This study is to explore the relationships among spirituality, death anxiety and burnout level of nurses caring for cancer patients. Methods: Participants were 210 nurses from a cancer hospital in Seoul. Data were collected from April until June 2012 and analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe's test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: The mean score for spirituality was 3.51 out of six. Among sub-categories, the one that scored the highest was the purpose and meaning of life, followed by unifying interconnectedness, inner resources and transcendence. The mean score for death anxiety was 3.22, and the sub-categories in the order of high score were denial of death, awareness of the shortness of time, pure death anxiety and fear of matters related to death. For the burnout, the mean was 4.10. Among sub-categories, highest mark was found with emotional exhaustion, followed by depersonalization and personal accomplishment. The spirituality level was negatively correlated with those of death anxiety and burnout. Death anxiety was positively correlated with burnout levels. Nurses with the higher spirituality level also had a higher level of education and experience of spiritual education, believed in the existence of God. In contrast, death anxiety and burnout levels were higher among those with a lower level of education, atheists, and for those who answered that religion has little influence on life. Conclusion: Thus, it is necessary to provide spiritual interventions for nurses who care for cancer patients to develop their spirituality, reduce death anxiety and prevent them from burning out easily.
