  • In this paper, small-size high-power single pole double throw(SPDT) switch with defected pound structure(DGS) is presented for wireless broadband internet application. To reduce the circuit size using slow-wave characteristic, the DGS is applied to ${\lambda}/4$ transmission line of the switch and the measured results are compared with them of conventional switch. To secure high degree of isolation, the switch with the DGS is composed of shunt-connected PIN diodes and shows insertion loss of 0.8 dB and isolation more than 50 dB at 2.3 GHz. The size of the switch is reduced about $50\%$ only with the DGS patterns while it has very similar performance to the conventional shunt-type switch.

  • This paper was investigated on the laminated rubber bearing, which mitigates damages of bridges from threat of earthquakes. Laminated rubber bearing can bear large loads for long periods of time and be capable of large deformations during an earthquake. To evaluate seismic isolation with laminated rubber bearing on several earthquake waves, we performed a shaking table test. In this test, deck acceleration was measured by accelerometers and shear force on piers was surveyed by load cells. Furthermore, seismic capacity of isolated systems with laminated rubber bearing was compared with non-isolated systems through shaking table test. The results show that deck acceleration and shear force were relatively reduced by laminated rubber bearing.

  • In this work, we optimized a microbolometer for application of a $CO_2$ detector by using MEMS technology. We fabricated a stable thermal isolation structure by varying the lengths of supporting legs which affect bolometer performance. We could fabricate more stable thermal isolation structure for the microbolometer through the results of ANSYS simulations, and minimize the fabrication processes by using bulk micromachining to use a $CO_2$ detector. The microbolometer shows a detectivity of $2.5{\times}109$ cmHz$^{1/2}$/W at a chopper frequency of 8 Hz and a bias current of $6.25\;{\mu}A$ with a vacuum package of about $3.0{\times}10.3$ torr. Therefore, we put to conclusion that the microbolometer optimized in this experiment could be useful for the application of a $CO_2$ detector.

  • We present a new maximum likelihood approach to estimate demographic history using genomic data sampled from two populations. A demographic model such as an isolation-with-migration (IM) model explains the genetic divergence of two populations split away from their common ancestral population. The standard probability model for an IM model contains a latent variable called genealogy that represents gene-specific evolutionary paths and links the genetic data to the IM model. Under an IM model, a genealogy consists of two kinds of evolutionary paths of genetic data: vertical inheritance paths (coalescent events) through generations and horizontal paths (migration events) between populations. The computational complexity of the IM model inference is one of the major limitations to analyze genomic data. We propose a fast maximum likelihood approach to estimate IM models from genomic data. The first step analyzes genomic data and maximizes the likelihood of a coalescent tree that contains vertical paths of genealogy. The second step analyzes the estimated coalescent trees and finds the parameter values of an IM model, which maximizes the distribution of the coalescent trees after taking account of possible migration events. We evaluate the performance of the new method by analyses of simulated data and genomic data from two subspecies of common chimpanzees in Africa.

  • In this paper, we designed an intelligent fault detection and isolation algorithm for improving reliability of turbojet engine controller. The proposed method uses multilayer neural network to detect and accommodate sensor failure from the functional relationship of dissimilar sensors. Signals of failure sensors are estimated from neural network trained by backpropagation algorithm. Simulation results on the state-space model of a turbojet engine illustrate that the proposed algorithm achieves the desired performance.

  • In this study, we developed a reduced 94 GHz hybrid ring coupler on a GaAs substrate in order to demonstrate the possibility of the integration of various passive components and MMICs in the millimeter-wave range. To reduce the size of the hybrid ring coupler, we used multiple open stubs on the inside of the ring structure. The chip size of the reduced hybrid ring coupler with multiple open stubs was decreased by 62% compared with the area of the hybrid ring coupler without open stubs. Performance in terms of the loss, isolation, and phase difference characteristics exhibited no significant change after the use of the multiple open stubs on the inside of the ring structure. The reduced hybrid ring coupler showed excellent coupling loss of $3.87{\pm}0.33dB$ and transmission loss of $3.77{\pm}0.72dB$ in the measured frequency range of 90-100 GHz. The isolation and reflection were -48 dB and -32 dB at 94 GHz, respectively. The phase differences between two output ports were $180^{\circ}{\pm}1^{\circ}$ at 94 GHz.

  • This study was intended to measure and analyze hand-transmitted vibrations from cultivator in idle and operation modes for three different types of field works. Based on this analysis a time for the white finger syndrome to appear on 10% of the operators was estimated assuming that their daily exposure is 3 hours. The 4 methods to reduce the hand vibration were also proposed and compared with each other. The results of the study were summarized as follows : The highest vibration level was recorded during trenching operation, resulting in a total average vibration of 11.5 m/s$^2$. Followings were 7.6 m/s$^2$ during rotary tillage and 7.0 m/s$^2$ for weeding. When exposed to these levels of vibrations three hours a day, the white finger syndrome is likely to appear in 4 years for trenching, 6.2 years for rotary tillage and 6.8 years for weeding operations. Isolation of hand vibration performed by a rubber pad, anti-vibration gloves, a handle anti-vibration device and engine mounts were respectively 15.7%, 16.5%. 26.1% and 27.0%, resulting in most effective methods of the handle anti-vibration device and engine mounts. A better performance of about 33.9% was achieved when both the handle anti-vibration device and engine mounts were used.

  • A simple micro-sampling system is described which facilitates isolation and concentration of complex organic constituents into three fractions of different volatilities. The method involves the headspace trapping of very volatile components from a complex matrix onto a porous polymer, Tenax GC, followed by the solvent elution of the matrix and the subsequent fractions of the eluate into volatile and less-volatile fractions. The headspace and the volatile fractions are then analyzed by high-resolution capillary gas chromatography. The less-volatile fraction is analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography. Experimental details and the results obtained using tobacco leaves as a complex organic matrix are presented.

  • In tile design of base isolation system for building and short-span bridge, shift of the natural period of the structure is main objective. But, most long-span bridges such as a cable-stayed bridges have a number of long-period modes due to their flexibility and small structural damping. thus the design concept of base isolation system for building and short-span brigde may be difficult to use directly to these structures. However, the effectiveness of LRB for cable-stayed bridges is indicated by Ali and Abdel-Ghaffar. In this study, the design procedure and guidelines of LRB for a seismically excited cable-stayed bridge are investigated. The design properties of LRB are chosen that the design index(DI) is minimized or little changed for variation of properties. This result show that the stiffer rubber and bigger lead core size are need to cable-stayed bridges. And the seismic performance of designed LRB is also investigated. The consequences show that the perforamnce of designed LRB is better than that of Naeim-Kelly mettled designning LRB for general building structures. Moreover, the design properties of LRB are researched to several diffrent dominant frequency of earthquake. The results present that the plastic and elastic stiffness of LRB are affected by the dominant frequency of earthquake.
