This study examines the characteristics of the herbaceous vegetation structure of Haneul Park District in World Cup Park, which had previously been used as a landfill for 15 years. The survey was carried out through actual vegetation and vegetation structures from 2003 to 2006, biannually. Firstly, as a result of analysis of actual vegetation, the autumn season changed more quickly over the 2 year span than did the spring season in terms of actual vegetation area. Annual plants increased for the initial $3{\sim}4$ years and then perennial plants increased. Secondly, the results of analysis in vegetation structure are as follows: 1. The number of planted species gradually decreased. 2. Miscanthus sinensis var. purpurascens of the control region was maintained but Imperata cylindrica var. koenigii of the non-control region was invaded by Miscanthus sacchariflorus, Glycine soja and Phragmites communis etc. 3. Planted species in the control region were maintained in superior state, but the non-control region was changed by natural occurrence plants until 2006, the fourth year. 4. Physostegia virginiana and Aster koraiensis which were planted in the non-control region were maintained but most of planted species weakened and changed by natural occurrence plants including Erigeron annuus, Artemisia princeps, Setaria faberii and Phragmites communis etc. Based on the results, we suggested the management method of herbaceous vegetation in the Haneul Park District.

This study was carried out to offer ecological restoration plan of local streams by analyzing the vegetation and flora around four local streams (Pungchoncheon, Namchangcheon, Ganggicheon, Woncheoncheon) in Namwon. Flora and vegetation investigation was done at April 2007 to August 2007, and June 2009. The 194 of vascular plants were identified which contain 53 families, 143 genera, 194 species. The Family frequencies arranged by the order of Family Compositae (14.4%), Family Gramineae (13.4%) Family Leguminosae (6.7%) and Family Polygonaceae (5.2%). The naturalized plants were listed as 33 species, and their naturalization ratio and urban index were found to be 17.0%, and 12.2%, respectively. In this study a total of 21 relev$\acute{e}$s collected and analyzed. 6 plant communities are differentiated : Riverine softwood forests (Phragmites japonica-Salix gracilistyla community), Perennial herb vegetations on lotic water zone (Phragmites japonica community, Phalaris arundinacea community), Perennial herb vegetations on lentic water zone (Persicaria thunbergii-Typha orientalis community, Phragmites communis community), Annual or biennial vegetations on waterside (Persicaria thunbergii community). Species showing the higer value in the plant communities were Persicaria thunbergii, Phragmites japonica, Artemisia princeps, Humulus scandens, Bidens frondosa, Oenanthe javanica, Agropyron tsukusinense var. transiens, Stellaria aquatica, and Lactuca indica var. laciniata.
A new paddy field herbicide, metazosulfuron granule is an herbicide for controlling annual and perennial weeds occurring in machinery transplanting paddy field. It is recommended to apply $30kg\;ha^{-1}$ 15 days after transplanting. As a result of preliminary tests, it could control seven annual species such as Echinochloa crus-galli, Bidens tripartita, Ludwigia prostrata, Monochoria vaginalis var. plantaginea, etc. and four perennial species including Cyperus serotinus, Sagittaria trifolia, Eleocharis kuroguwai, and Scirpus juncoides. Monochoria vaginalis var. plantaginea, S. trifolia and S. juncoides resistant to sulfonylurea- herbicides were also controlled. Because application timing of the herbicide is wide, it is very efficient to control the spraying timing by users. Phytotoxicity of rice cultivars was not observed, and the impact on the environment is very limited.

Carbohydrate and soluble protein reserves and regrowth characteristics in response to cutting height were investigated over four regrowth cycles of turf-type perennial ryegrass(Lolium perenne L. cv. preludeII). When the plants were at the full-vegetative stage (twelve weeks-old), three sequential defoliations at 3, 6 and 9 cm above the root base were imposed at 2-week intervals. Shoot dry weight in all three treatments continuously decreased with progressing regrowth cycle and the decreasing rate was higher as cutting height was lowered. TNC (total non-structural carbohydrate) in stubble at the end of the fourth regrowth cycle in 3, 6 and 9 cm cutting height decreased by 98%, 82% and 27%, respectively, comparing the initial content. TNC in roots also largely decreased with similar pattern in response to cutting height, whereas the absolute amount was much less compared to stubble. Soluble protein in stubble in 3, 6 and 9 cm cutting height decreased by 98%, 82% and 57%, respectively, at the end of fourth regrowth. A significant correlations between TNC (r=0.906) or protein (r=0.879) at the fourth defoliation and dry weight of regrowing shoots at the end of fourth regrowth were observed. these results indicated that cutting height closely influences the levels of organic reserves available for new growth, and that the levels of reserves might provide a useful tool as a determinant for regrowth dynamics.

This study aims to understand wetland distribution and type-specific classification features with a focus on Tumen River downstream in China by adjusting and improving the classification system used in Korea with a reference to international wetland classification systems and their criteria & methods. In this study, wetland types were determined based on hydrology, vegetation, and soil conditions, which are the most basic elements of wetlands. Also, topography analytical map, vegetation analytical map, and soil analytical map for wetland classification were developed and used based on currently available topography map, vegetation map, and soil map. In addition, codes were defined based on topography, location, hydrology, and vegetation. The result shows that, in the Tumen River downstream, wetlands are often found near natural revetment and terrace land & river-bed lakes. In the discovered wetlands, riverine, lacustrine, and inland wetlands were mostly found at system level. Riparian and human-made wetlands were also identified. At a sub-system level, perennial and seasonal wetlands were found to a similar degree. At a class level, perennial open water, herbal plants, and shrubs were mostly found and sandy plain, hydrophytes, and forest tree types were also observed. An overall detailed classification shows that a total of 17 wetland types were found and a large distribution of sand dunes and river-bed lakes, which are scarce in Northeast Asia, indicates that other rare wetland types such as palustrine seasonal sand plain wetland and lacustrine seasonal sand plain wetland may be discovered.

We designed the model picture of Tourism Botanical Garden, as a kind of theme park, in which we could enjoy flowers all the year round and the glorious tints of its autumn foliage. It would be very important to decide what kinds of trees should be planted and where to plant them. We selected the appropriate flowers and trees according to their value of appreciation and flowering time and the grand view around there and the weather conditions of the central region. We selected perennial plants as native plants, according to their color, flowering time and for the convenience of maintenance. And we selected some kinds of culture plants to show the seasonal change and diversity, according to their color and flowering time. We adopted the roof-tile pattern of Pakjae Kingdom to design the basic model of the garden, and the area was divided into eight sections. Six of them were divided again into four small planting areas from the outside respectively, according to the kinds of trees; pine-tree area, native flowering plant area, flowering tree area and flowering shrub area. The last two sections are by a lake, so they could make a beautiful landscape of waterfront. For the effective and economic operation of the garden, some kinds of flower trees and shrubs, which are little damaged by blight and are needless to prune, were selected. And perennial plants were also selected, because we don't have to change them into other plants, so we could cut down the expenses. As for the culture plants, they could be easily replaced with other culture plants in the flowering time, to show seasonal change and the harmony with the scenery around the garden.

The slope revegetation methods in Korea are generally the hydroseeding mixed with perennial herbs, soil, fibers, and fertilizer in consideration of scenic landscape rather than ecological and engineering effect. But perennial herbs can't protect the slope from deep surface erosion and they are not tall enough to create the original naturalness at the boundary parts of existing woodlands. This study is about the slope revegetation method using nutritional propagation capacity of plants and the experimental construction was carried out on the cut-slope of Yongin Hoam C.C. We dug several trenches to a depth of 80cm and at intervals of 150cm from each other. After placing various kinds of live branches(Salix species) into the trench, we backfilled with the excavated soils and finally sprayed water mixed with soil-stabilizer, fertilizer. As six months passed, we made a vegetation research and check the slope surface erosion. Vegetation research was performed in examining the frequency of each block using transect method. 31 kinds of plant species appeared in total area($113.6m^2$) and the dominant species are Setaria viridis, Artemisia rubripes, Persicaria pubescens, Plantago asiatica, Cyperus amuricus, Commelina communis. Among the examined blocks, '아', the top part of the slope, showed the ratio of 1.4 as the highest Alpha-diversity. With regard to life form, therophytes were shown dominant distribution of 58% of total species and neophytes relatively low distribution of 16%. It can be estimated that there is no ecological stabilization of this slope, because of ruderal species' occupation of 74% in total area. Regarding the slope stabilization, the serious surface erosion didn't take place in spite of heavy rainfall this year, but a little surface erosion took place at the block where no other species coming from outside of the site were found.

Research was initiated to investigate early establislment characteristics and germination pattern of perennial ryegrass (PR, Lolium perenne L.). Eight varieties of PR were evaluated in the study. An alternative environmental condition for a PR germination test required by International Seed Testing Association (ISTA) was applied in the experiment, consisting of 8-hr light at $25^{\circ}C$ and 16-hr dark at $15^{\circ}C$ (ISTA conditions). Daily and cumulative germination pattern were measured and analyzed daily for 30 days. Significant differences were observed in germination pattern, days to the first germination, days to 50% germination, days to 75% germination, and final germination rate. Germination rates were variable among the varieties, being 66.00 to 93.75% at the end of study. There were considerable variations in early germination characteristics and germination pattern among PR varieties. The first germination in all entries tested was initiated from 3 to 5 DAS (days after seeding) under ISTA conditions, being 2 days in differences among the varieties. It was 4 to 7 DAS in days to the 50% germination, being 1 to 3 days later from the first germination and three days were variable among them. Days to the 75% germination were 5.93 to 10.50 DAS under ISTA conditions, being 4.57 days in variety differences. Pennant II and Brightstar II were the fastest varieties. The slowest ones were Revenge GLX and Brightstar SLT. Considering days to the first germination, days to 75% germination, and germination pattern etc, Pennant II and Brightstar II were regarded as excellent varieties under ISTA conditions. From tills study, information on differences in germination characteristics and pattern would be usefully applied for golf course design and construction, when established with PR.

The cemented sand and gravel (CSG) method is a construction technique that adds cement and water to rock-like materials, such as rivered gravel or excavation muck which that can be obtained easily at areas adjacent to dam sites. This study was performed to evaluate the planting properties of herbaceous plant and cool-season grass in CSG blocks that were manufactured by using CSG materials to develop environmentally friendly CSG method. The two types of CSG-0 without cement and CSG-100 with $100\;kg/m^3$ of cement were designed to evaluate compaction, unconfined compressive strength and growth of plants with cement content by using modified E compaction. To analyze growth properties of plants, germination ratio, visual cover, plant height and root length were measured in 4 weeks and 8 weeks after sowing. As the results, the germination regardless kinds of plants started within 5~7days and the germination ratio were in the range of 50~60 %. The visual cover of kinds of plants by visual rating system were in the range of 7~8 and the visual cover of tall fescue and perennial ryegrass was higher than that of lespedeza cuneata. The plant height and root length for tall fescue and perennial ryegrass in 8 weeks after sowing were in the range of 22~26 cm, 12~15 cm and 4~6 cm, 3~5 cm, respectively.
