SLM (Selected Mapping) is an efficient PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) reduction scheme without transmitted signal distortion in OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) systems. However, enormous IFFTs (Inverse Fast Fourier Transforms) are needed to generate sufficient candidate OFDM signals, which cause the SLM to become quite complex. In this paper, we propose a new SLM scheme that replaces the IFFT operations with a conversion of the first candidate OFDM signal. The proposed scheme significantly reduces computational complexity, while it shows almost the same PAPR performance as the conventional SLM scheme.

This paper proposes a novel crest factor reduction (CFR) algorithm to be deployed on WCDMA basestation. Generally speaking, it is well described that the reduction of peak-to-average ratio (PAR) yields the possibility of using low cost power amplifier such that the basesation becomes economic However, the simple reduction of PAR could degrade the signal quality measured by either peak code domain error (PCDE) or error vector measurement (EVM), and the level of channel interference constrained by adjacent channel leakage ratio (ACLR). Regarding these imperfections, this paper introduces an effective CFR algorithm in which the function of filter-dependent CFR (FDCFR) incorporated with the histogram-based waterfilling code domain compensation (HBWCDC) carries out. To verify the performance of the proposed CFR technique, substantial simulations including comparative works are conducted with obeying W-CDMA basestation verification specification. To exploit the superiority, the performance of the proposed method is tentatively compared with that associated to the simple memoryless clipping method and the memory-required filter-dependent clipping method.

In this paper, a new peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction method for spatial modulation(SM) is presented. By using the matrix with all non-zero elements to precode the signals before transmitting, the transmit power is scattered over all transmit antennas for achieving the goal of PAPR reduction. If this matrix is also an unitary matrix, the distribution of transmit power over transmit antennas will be uniform and it also could retain the characteristic of avoiding inter channel interference (ICI) due to the orthogonality of unitary matrix. In case of a non-ideal amplifier, the proposed method can produce a considerable improvement that increases with a number of transmit antennas in performance. Furthermore, the new scheme achieves an identical performance with conventional one in the case of ideal amplifier.
We propose in this paper a companding scheme or peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. By exploiting statistical distribution of OFDM transmit signals, the proposed scheme effectively reduces the PAPR by compressing the peak signals, while maintaining the average power unchanged. Simulation results are provided to show good performance of the proposed scheme.

We propose an ATI (Adaptive Tone Injection) scheme based on clipping noise for PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) reduction of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) signals. The proposed scheme is composed of three steps: clipping, tone selection, and TI procedures. In the first step, the peak samples in the IFFT (Inverse Fast Fourier Transform) outputs are scaled down by clipping. In the second step, the sub-carrier position where the power of the clipping noise is the maximum, is selected. Finally, the generic TI procedure is performed. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme does not require all the possible combinations of the original TI procedures, while maintaining the PAPR reduction performance.

This paper addresses the problem of controlling the envelope's power peak of single carrier modulated signals, band limited by root-raised cosine (RRC) pulse shaping filters, in order to reduce power amplifier back-off for very small aperture terminals ground stations. Magnitude modulation (MM) is presented as a very efficient solution to the peak-to-average power ratio problem. This paper gives a detailed description of the MM concept and its recent evolutions. It starts by extending the look-up-table (LUT) based approach of the MM concept to M-ary constellations with M ${\leq}$ 16. The constellation and RRC symmetries are explored, allowing considerable reduction on LUT computation complexity and storage requirements. An effective multistage polyphase (MPMM) approach for the MM concept is then proposed. As opposed to traditional LUT-MM solutions, MM coefficients are computed in real-time by a low complexity multirate filter system. The back-off from high-power amplifier saturation is almost eliminated (reduction is greater than 95%) with just a 2-stage MPMM system even for very demanding roll-off cases (e.g., ${\alpha}$ = 0,1). Also, the MPMM is independent of modulation in use, allowing its easy application to constellations with M > 16.

Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals suffer from the problem of high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), which complicates the design of analog front-end of the system. Companding is a well-known PAPR reduction technique that involves transforming signal amplitudes using a deterministic function. OFDM signal amplitude, on average, is Rayleigh distributed but the distribution can vary significantly from symbol to symbol, especially when constellation size increases. In this paper, a new adaptive companding scheme is proposed along with its design methodology aiming at optimizing the compander performance by accommodating this variation in its design. This is achieved by designing compander parameters separately for statistically dissimilar symbols in OFDM waveform and making the compander select from these parameters, during run-time, according to the features of input symbols.

We propose an ATR (Adaptive Tone Reservation) scheme based on clipping noise for PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) reduction of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) signals. The proposed scheme is composed of three steps: clipping, tone selection, and TR procedures. In the first step, the peak samples in the IFFT (Inverse Fast Fourier Transform) outputs are scaled down by clipping. In the second step, the sub-carrier position where the power of the clipping noise is the maximum, is selected. Finally, the generic TR procedure is performed. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme does not require all the possible combinations for the original TR procedures, while maintaining the PAPR reduction performance.
