변형된 ELC 공진기와 다중 슬롯 공진기를 이용한 소형 4-비트 Chipless RFID 태그 (Compact 4-bit Chipless RFID Tag Using Modified ELC Resonator and Multiple Slot Resonators)

  • 본 논문에서는 변형된 전계-결합 유도-용량성(ELC; electric field-coupled inductive-capacitive) 공진기와 다중 슬롯 공진기를 이용한 소형 4-비트 chipless RFID(radio frequency identification) 태그를 제안하였다. 변형된 ELC 공진기는 기존의 ELC 공진기에서 인터디지털-커패시터 구조를 사용하여 레이다 단면적(RCS; radar cross section)의 공진 피크 주파수를 낮추었다. 다중 슬롯 공진기는 거꾸로 된 U-모양의 도체에 길이가 다른 3개의 슬롯을 에칭하여 설계하였다. 변형된 ELC 공진기의 RCS 공진 피크 주파수는 3.216 GHz로 설계하였고, 다중 슬롯 공진기는 각각 4.122 GHz, 4.64 GHz, 5.304 GHz로 설계하였다. 제안된 소형 4-비트 태그를 두께 0.8 mm의 50 mm×20 mm 크기의 RF-301 기판에 제작하였다. 실험 결과, 제작된 4-비트 chipless RFID 태그의 공진 피크 주파수는 3.285 GHz, 4.09 GHz, 4.63 GHz, 5.31 GHz로 0.78% ~ 2.16% 범위의 오차를 나타내며 시뮬레이션 결과와 유사하게 측정되었다.

  • This paper proposed the ways for reduction of the prominent peak of the tone noise in air conditioning units. In order to find out the sources of the tone noise, the resonant frequencies and modes of the fans were investigated. Also, the effects of the ambient temperatures and material properties of the fans on the tone noise were studied. From the experiments, it was shown that the tone noise was greatly influenced by the torsional resonance of the fan and motor system and commutation frequency. In other words, the torsional resonance of the fan and motor system has not to be close to the commutation frequency (torque ripple frequency) which creates a rate of change in the angular acceleration in order to reduce the tone noise in air conditioning units.

  • This paper describes the fabrication and characteristics of a low frequency vibration driven electromagnetic energy harvester. The fabricated generator consists of a permanent magnet of NdFeB, a FR-4 planar spring and a Copper cylinder type coil. ANSYS modal analysis was used to determine the resonant frequency for the generator. The implemented generator is capable of producing up to 550 mV peak-to-peak under 7 Hz frequency, which has a maximum power of $95.5\;{\mu}W$ with load resistance of $580\;{\Omega}$. This device is shown to generate sufficient power at different resonating modes, and the experimental and simulated results are discussed and composed.

Compact Wireless IPT System Using a Modified Voltage-fed Multi-resonant Class EF2 Inverter

  • Wireless inductive power transfer (IPT) technology is used in many applications today. A compact and high-frequency primary side inverter is one of the most important parts of a WPT system. In this study, a modified class EF-type voltage-fed multi-resonant inverter has been proposed for WPT application at a frequency range of 85-100 kHz. Instead of an infinite input choke inductor, a resonant inductor is used to reduce loss and power density. The peak voltage stress across the MOSFET has been reduced to almost 60% from a class-E inverter using a passive clamping circuit. A simple yet effective design procedure has been presented to calculate the various component values of the proposed inverter. The overall system is simulated using MATLAB/SimPowerSystem to verify the theoretical concepts. A 500-W prototype was built and tested to validate the simulated results. The inverter exhibited 90% efficiency at nearly perfect alignment condition, and efficiency reduced gradually with the misalignment of WPT coils. The proposed inverter maintains zero-voltage switching (ZVS) during considerable load changes and possesses all the inherent advantages of class E-type inverters.

  • This paper presents a novel circuit topology of the double two-switch forward type high frequency transformer linked soft-switching PWM DC-DC power converter with tapped inductor filters that can operate under a condition of the low peak voltage stress across the power semiconductor devices and lowered peak current stress through the transformer for some high power applications. This circuit topology of an interleaved two-switch forward soft-switching power converter is proposed in the order to minimize an idle circulating current due to the tapped inductor filter without of any additional active auxiliary resonant-assisted snubber circuits, such as active resonant DC link snubbers and AC link snubbers, active resonant commutation leg link snubbers. The unique advantages of this power converter are less power circuit components and power semiconductor devices, constant frequency PWM scheme, cost effective configuration and wider soft-switching PWM operation range under PWM power regulations load variations. The practical effectiveness of the proposed soft-switching converter circuit topology is tested by simulations and is proved by experimental results received from the 500W-100kHz breadboard setup.

  • Engineered mixtures composed of rigid sand particles and soft rubber particles are tested to investigate their behavior with strain level. Mixtures are prepared with different volumetric sand fractions (sf) to identify response using small strain resonant column, intermediate strain oedometer, and large strain direct shear tests. The small strain shear modulus and damping ratio are determined with volumetric sand fractions. The asymmetric frequency response curve increases with decreasing sand fraction. Linear responses of shear strain and damping ratio with shear strain are observed at the mixture of sf=0.2. Vertical strain increases with decreasing sand fraction. Mixtures with $04.{\leq}sf{\leq}0.6$ show the transitional stress-deformation behavior from rubber-like to sand-like behavior. The friction angle increases with the sand fraction and no apparent peak strength is observed in mixture without sf=1.0.

모노폴 안테나를 이용한 유중 부분방전의 검출 (Detection of Partial Discharges by a Monopole Antenna in Insulation Oil)

  • This paper dealt with the measurement and analysis of electromagnetic waves radiated from a partial discharge (PD) source in insulation oil to apply condition monitoring of oil-immersed transformers. Two types of narrow-band monopole antennas with the resonant frequency of a 500 MHz and a 1 GHz were designed and fabricated. Also, a needle-plane electrode system was manufactured to simulate PDs and the curvature radius of the needle is 10 ${\mu}m$ and the diameter of the plane is 60 mm. Electromagnetic wave was measured by the PD measurement system with the monopole antennas. Detection sensitivity of the fabricated antenna was compared for the same PD magnitude; 620 $mV_{peak}$ for the 500 MHz antenna and 960 $mV_{peak}$ for the 1 GHz antenna to the PD magnitude of 74 pC. Consequently, the 1 GHz monopole antenna is more effective to detect PDs in oil-immersed transformers.

  • Expressions for the displacement of a bimorph, one end fixed and the other free, has been introduced when sinusoidal inputs were applied to the ceramic plates on a thin metal plate. Maximum displacements at the free end and strains at the position of strain gage attached were measured when various wave forms, voltages, and frequencies were applied to the bimorph whose length is 6.6[cm], width 2.5[cm], and thickness 0.0365[cm]. Under the constant voltage ( $70[V_{peak}]$ ), the strains and the displacements at the free end were larger than the case of the sinusoidal input when the square wave was applied and were smaller when triangular wave. It was shown that the displacements at the free end and the strains of the gage position were increased as the applied voltage in the range of $30-90[V_{peak}]$ and effective length were increased. And it was also found that the resonant frequency of a bimorph was decreased as its effective length was increased, and that the displacements and the strains were maximum at the resonant frequency.

Mechanical Dither Design for Ring Laser Gyroscope

  • The gyroscopes have been used as a suitable inertial instrument for the navigation guidance and attitude controls. The accuracy as very sensitive sensor is limited by the lock-in region (dead band) by the frequency coupling between two counter-propagating waves at low rotation rates. This frequency coupling gives no phase difference and an angular increment is not detected. This problem can be overcome by the mechanical dithering. The purpose of the mechanical dithering is to suppress the dead band, oscillate the monoblock about the rotation axis and add an external rotation rate. This paper presents the theoretical considerations of the mechanical performances of dither on the basis of the loading condition and angular characteristics due to the piezoelement deformation and the validity of theoretical equations are compared through FEM (Finite Element Method) simulations.

  • We fabricated the monolayers onto QCM by self-assembly using viologen, which has been widely used as electron acceptor. A gold electrode of the QCM was cleaned by piranha solution and prepared the ethanol-acetonitrile(1:1) solution with 2 m mol/l viololgen compounding of pure hi gas. We determined the time dependence to resonant frequency shift during self-assembly process and the electrochemical behavior of the self-assembled viologen monolayers by cyclic voltammetry. With increasing scan rate, the redox peak current of the viologen increased linearly. This was signified that the redox reaction was reversible. The EQCM measurements revealed the anions transfer during redox reactions, respectively. From the EQCM data, the well-defined shape peaks were nearly equal charges by cyclic voltammetry.
