Comparison of Growth and Allometric Change of Stand and Dominant Trees in Pinus koraiensis Plantation over 34 Years

  • This study was conducted to find out the growth pattern of Pinus koraiensis plantation over 34 years, focusing on DBH, height, basal area and allometric change. Total increment (TI), mean annual increment (MAI) and correlation coefficient were calculated and compared with stand and dominants. Total increment and mean annual increment of both DBH and height of dominants were bigger than those of stand. The difference was apparently shown bigger in DBH than height. Unlike DBH and height the total increment and mean annual increment of basal area per hectare of dominants were distinctively smaller than those of stand. Furthermore MAI of dominant was increasing until age 42, while MAI of stand increased at early ages and then gradually decreased after culmination like MAIs of DBH and height. MAIs of basal area of dead trees at each measurement tended to increase until early age (18 years in this study), while it reached a peak and gradually decrease after that (21 years in this study). Correlation coefficient between DBH and height tended to decrease as both dominant and stand age and the difference between dominant and stand was not clearly shown over the measurement period. Correlation coefficients between DBH and crown width tended to decrease as the trees age and correlation coefficients of dominant were clearly shown smaller than that of stand. Correlation coefficients of height and crown width also was found to be similar to correlation coefficients between DBH and crown. Meanwhile correlation coefficient of height and crown width dropped more radically than coefficient of DBH and crown width as the trees age.

토마토의 성장과정에 따른 카탈리아제 (Catalase) 활성에 관한 연구 (Studies on the Catalase Activities of Tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum) as a Function of Age)

  • 토마토(Lycopersicum esculentum)를 파종하여 1년간 성장시키면서 성장기간에 따른 잎과 뿌리의 catalase 활성 변화를 측정하였다. 뿌리에 있어서의 catalase 활성은 잎의 경우에 비해 전반적으로 매우 미약하였다. 반면에 잎의 catalase 활성은 매우 현저한 변화 양상을 나타냈는데 주로 peroxisomal 분획에 존재하였고 특히 발아 후 2주 이내의 발아초기에 76 ${\mu}mol$/ml/min의 최고 활성은 기점으로 하여 급격히 감소했다가 성장기 4 ∼ 5 개월에 즈음하여 상당히 증가된 활성을 보였으며 11 ∼ 12개월째 노화기에 가장 저조한 활성을 보였다. 이와 같이 성장시기에 따라서 변화하는 catalase 활성에 영향을 미치는 인자로서 첫째 발아기에는 glyoxylate cycle과 $\beta$-oxidation이 일어나는 glyoxisomal 반응 그리고 둘째 발아기 이후에는 광합성 반응이 각각 해당시기에 $H_2O_2$를 발생시키는 반응으로 작용할 것으로 간주된다. 이 외에도 NADPH는 불활성화된 catalase(compound II)를 다시 활성화시켜 해로운 기질인 $H_2O_2$로부터 catalase 보호제로서의 역할을 함으로써 토마토의 생장기간 전체에 걸쳐 작용하는 것으로 나타났다.

소뇌와 뇌교의 정상 자기공명분광 소견: 같은 장비내 및 다른 장비간의 결과 비교 (Normal MR Spectroscopic Findings of the Cerebellum and Pons: Comparison of the Results between Intra-Unit and Inter-Unit Studies)

  • 목적 : 정상 성인에셔 소뇌와 뇌교의 MRS의 정상 소견과 대사물질비의 정상값을 구하고, 같은 장비에서 반복 시행한 결과의 차이와 다른 장비간의 결과의 차이가 어느 정도인지를 알아보고자 하였다. 대상 및 방법 : 건강한 9명의 정상 자원자(평균연령 23세)를 대상으로 두 개의 서로 다론 1.5T MR 장비 (A, B 장비)에서 각각 두 번씩 총 4회의 MRS를 양측 소뇌 반구와 뇌교에셔 시행하였 다. 스핀에코 단일화적소기법을 이용하였고 소뇌에서는 $2{\times}2{\times}1.5{\;}em$의 voxel 크기를, 뇌교 에서는 $1.5{\times}1.5{\times}1.5{\;}cm$의 voxel을 적용하였다. TR/TE는 2000/288 msec, Averaging 은 128회로 하였다. 소뇌와 뇌교의 NAA/Cho, NAA/Cr, NAA/(Cho+Cr), Cr/Cho 비를 peak height와 peak area로 각각 구하여, 같은 장비 내 (intra-unit) , 그리고 다론 장비간 (inter-unit)의 정상값에 유의한 차이가 있는지를 알아보았다. 결과 : A 장비에서 첫번째로 시행한 peak height NAA/Cho, NAA/Cr, NAA/(Cho+ Cr), CriCho 비의 평균값(표준편차는 소뇌에서 각각 $1.08{\pm}0.16,{\;}1.44{\pm}0.286,{\;}0.61{\pm}0.09,{\;}0.76{\pm}0.13$ 였고, 두번째 시행한 결과와 비교할 때 장비내 차이는 3-7% 였다. B장비에서 시 행한 2회의 검사 사이에서는 22% 의 차이를 보인 Cr/Cho를 제외하면 1-9% 의 장비내 차이 를 보였다. A, B 두 장비 간 차이는 1-26%였다. 뇌교에서는 A장비 첫번째 peak height 측정 치는 $1.51{\pm}0.35,{\;}3.35{\pm}0.78,{\;}1.02{\pm}0.16,{\;}0.47{\pm}0.14$로서, 소뇌보다 NAA/Cho, NAA/Cr, NAA!(Cho+Cr) 비가 유의하게 높았다. 장비내 차이는 A장비에서 2-21 %였고, B장비에서 4-18%였다. A, B 두 장비간 차이는 1-18% 였다. peak area로 구한 대사산물비의 평균값은 peak height 의 그것에 비해 전반적으로 두 장비에서 높거나 광범위한 변이를 보였다. 결론 : 소뇌의 NAA/Cho과 NAA/Cr의 평균값이 뇌교의 그것보다 유의하게 낮았다. 같은 장비 내에서 반복 시행한 평균값의 차이는 대체적으로 유의한 차이가 없었으나, 다른 장비에서 반복 시행한 장비간의 사이에는 유의한 차이가 있는 경우가 더 많았다. 따라서 , MRS 검사를 소뇌나 뇌교의 어떤 절환에 적용하기 전에 각 장비 마다 정상 기준치를 반드시 얻은 후에 이상여부를 판 정하는 것이 필수적이라고 생각된다.

연령에 따른 Mycoplasma pneumoniae 폐렴 발병의 최근 경향 (Recent Trends in the Prevalence of Mycoplasma pneumoniae Pneumonia According to Age)

  • 목 적 : 마이코플라즈마 폐렴은 5세 이전의 소아에서는 드물며, 학동전기 및 학동기 소아에서 높은 발생빈도를 보인다고 알려져 왔다. 그러나 최근에는 5세 미만의 영유아에서 마이코플라즈마 폐렴이 증가하고 있어 저자들은 연구병원에 마이코플라즈마 폐렴으로 입원한 환자들을 대상으로 최근 발생 빈도에 대해 파악하고자 한다. 방 법 : 최근 3년간 관동대학교 명지병원 소아과에 입원하여 마이코플라즈마 폐렴으로 진단된 414명을 대상으로 하였다. 마이코플라즈마 폐렴의 진단기준은 임상적으로 폐렴이 의심되는 환자에서 간접응집법으로 측정한 Mycoplasma 항체가가 1:320 이상이거나, 회복기 혈청에서 항체가가 4배 이상 증가한 경우로 하였다. 결 과 : 대상 환아 414명 중 성별 분포는 남아가 204명, 여아가 210명이었다. 연령별로는 2세 미만에서 58명(14%), 2-4세까지는 157명(37.9%), 5-15세에서 199명(48.1%)를 보였다. 2세 미만의 소아에서 연도별 발생빈도는 2004년에 9명(7.6%), 2005년에 12명(11%), 그리고 2006년에 37명(19.9%)으로 증가하였다(P<0.05). 항체 가별 환아의 분포는 1:320에서 130명, 1:640에서 63명, ${\geq}1:1,280$에서 221명이였다. 5세 미만에서의 항체가별 분포는 1:320에서 78명, 1:640에서 49명, ${\geq}1:1,280$에서 97명이었다. 각 군별 입원기간은 7.5일, 6.95일, 7.2일이었다. 항체가별 환아의 입원기간은 1:320에서 6.76일, 1:640에서 7.08일, ${\geq}1:1,280$에서 7.2일이었다. 결 론 : 본 연구 결과 마이코플라즈마 폐렴으로 입원한 5세 미만의 영유아가 증가하는 추세임을 확인하였고, 특히 마이코플라즈마 폐렴의 유행기였던 2006년에는 5세 미만의 영유아에서 전체의 61.3%를 차지하였다. 영유아에서 지역사회 획득 폐렴의 원인인 마이코플라즈마 폐렴의 발생빈도가 증가한 것으로 보여5세 미만의 연령에서도 폐렴의 원인균으로 고려하여 다른 폐렴과 및 적절한 치료를 해야 한다.

악관절잡음 및 동통을 동반한 정복성 관절원판 변위환자에 대한 관절강 Pumping 효과 (The Effect of Joint Space Pumping Treatment in Patients with Reducible Disc Displacement Accompanied by TMJ Sound and Pain)

  • Pumping into the upper joint cavity of the TMJ was done on patients who had reducible disc displacement with pain. This article discusses the change in TMJ sounds before and after the Pumping treatment. 20subjects(mean age of $32.1{\pm}10.2yr$)were selected among those who visited the department of Oral Medicine of Yonsei University for the treatment of craniomandibular dysfunctions. Through a thorough history taking, clinical exam and X-ray taking these subjects were diagnosed as reducible disc displacement patients, and they were subdivided into two groups as acute and chronic according to the time the TMJ sound was made. Sonopak was used to measure the TMJ sound before, right after and one-week after the Pumping treatment. VAS was used to measure the degree of subjective TMJ complaints(sounds and pain) before and one-week after the Pumping treatment. Vibration related items included total integral, high integral, low integral, ratio of high integral to low integral, peak amplitude, peak frequency and median frquency. 1. It was not statistically significant between the acute and chronic groups before the treatment. However, total integral, high integral, low integral, peak amplitude, peak frequency, median frequency showed to be greater in the chronic group. 2. In all the subjects, just after the Pumping treatment was done, total integral, high and low integral, peak amplitude and peak frequency significantly decreased (p<0.05). Even after one week, low integral, peak frequency and median frequency significantly decreased (p<0,05), and the TMJ sound diminished accordingly. 3. Comparing the two groups(before and right after the Pumping treatment), there was the following difference ; in the acute group, high integral, high amplitude, high frequency and median frequency significantly decreased(p<0.05). In the chronic group, total integral, high integral, low integral, ratio, peak amplitude and peak frequency significantly decreased(p<0,05). It was not statistically significant between the acute and chronic group. 4. Comparing the two groups(right after and one week after the Pumping treatment), there was the following difference : in the acute group, high integral, high amplitude, high frequency and median frequency significantly decreased(p<0.05), In the chronic group, low integral significantly decreased(p<0.05). However, although it was not statistically significant, after one week, there was an increase in total integral, ratio, peak amplitude and peak frequency compared to right after the treatment group. 5. In the VAS of before and one week after the Pumping treatment of the TMJ pain and sound, the TMJ pain significantly decreased(p<0.05) in both the acute and chronic group. However, it was not statistically significant between the two groups. There was a statistically significant decrease(p<0.05) in the TMJ sound in the acute group after one week of Pumping treatment, but no change was notable in the chronic group and it was not statistically significant between the two groups. From the above results, we can conclude that Pumping into the upper joint cavity of patients having reducible disc displacement is effective in reducing clicking and pain. Therefore, it can be applied in diverse clinical fields.

Epidemiology of Breast Cancer among Females in Basrah

  • Breast cancer is the most frequent cancer in females. Its incidence is higher in developed countries than in developing ones partly due to variation in risk exposure and partly due to better detection methods. Scattered evidence in Basrah, Iraq, suggests that breast cancer has been increasing at a significant pace in recent years. This study aimed to measure the current level of risk of breast cancer among females in Basrah and to describe the time trend over almost a decade of years. Data on breast cancer cases from all sources of cancer registration in Basrah governorate were compiled for the years 2005-2012. The data for each year were first checked separately for duplicate reporting of cases among various sources. Then the eight files were pooled together and checked again for any duplicate cases among years of registration. The final set of data contained 2,284 cases of breast cancer (2,213 female cases and 71 male cases). All patients were inhabitants of Basrah governorate at the time of diagnosis. Figures on the Basrah population were obtained from various sources including the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Planning and Developmental Collaboration and local household surveys. It was possible to have total population estimates for each year and by age and sex. The data were imported into SPSS (version 17) software. Age specific and year specific incidence rates were calculated. The age standardized incidence rate was also calculated using world population as the standard population to be 34.9 per 100,000 females. Age-wise, no case was reported among children aged less than 15 years and the incidence increased with advancing age reaching a peak of 123.8/100,000 females at the age range of 50-54 years. The time trend of the crude incidence rate showed only modest increased risk with passage of years and no age shift could be documented in this study. Breast cancer in females in Basrah is a significant health problem. The current incidence rate (crude, 23.7/100,000, age-standardized, 34.9/100,000) is high and justifies intensive efforts to improve early detection of cases, provide better treatment amenities and introduce long term preventive measures. Using the age standardized incidence rate as reported in this paper, it is possible to put the risk in Basrah within a regional and international context.

인두와 두개안면골격에 관한 방사선학적 연구 (A ROENTGENOCEPHALOMETRIC STUDY OF THE PHARYNX AND CRANIOFACIAL SKELETON IN KOREAN)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the variation in shape, size and area of the pharynx and adenoids, and to analyze the relationship between pharyngeal cavity and upper facial cranium which effected on morphology of those parts in Korean. Age changes and sex differences in those areas were comprised in this study. Materials included 272 lateral cephalograms, which were divided into 4 groups by age; (1) 7-year-old group consisted of 29 males and 30 females, (2) 12-year-old group consisted of 30 males and 30 females, (3) 17-year-old group consisted of 30 males and 40 females, (4) 20-year-old group consisted of 37 males and 46 females. In subjects each variable was measured and evaluated statistically introducing 17 reference points and 17 reference lines respectively. Conclusions from this study were as follows. 1. Linear measurements of the bony nasopharynx revealed that the depth and height were larger in male than those in female in 17 and 20-year-old groups. 2. Linear measurements of the upper facial cranium were larger in male than those in female in all age groups. 3. Angular measurements of the bony nasopharynx and upper facial cranium did not show, on an average, sex differences in each age group. 4. As regards area of the bony nasopharynx, it increased gradually with age in both sexes. And the area was greater in male than that in female in 17 and 20-year old groups. 5. There were sex differences in area of the adenoids of which the area was larger in male than that in female in 17 and 20-year-old groups. And the area reached a peak at 17-year-old group in male and at 12 year-old group in female. 6. Area of the pharyngeal cavity increased gradually with age in both sexes, but no sex differences were noted in each age group. 7. Rate of area of the adenoids to that of the pharyngeal cavity decreased continually with age, and no sex differences were noted in all age groups. 8. In amounts and its differences of the growth, there were sex differences in the posterior upper facial height, and were not in area of the bony nasopharynx, pharyngeal cavity and adenoids in each age group.

채식을 하는 수유부의 수유기간별 모유분비량과 수유양식에 관한 연구 (A Longitudinal Study on Human Milk Volume and Lactational Performance of Korean Lacto-ovo-vegetarians)

  • The longitudinal changes on human milk volume per day and lactational performance of 23 Korean lacto-ovo-vegetarians(primiparae=11, multiparae=12) from 0.5 to 5 months after parturition have been studied by test weighing method. The human milk volume per day tended to increase during lactation. The mean volume (SD, ml/day) at 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 months were 502(102), 692(127), 697(100), 684( 125), 757(52), 703(70), respectively. The overall mean volume was 661$\pm$132ml/day. The peak milk volume during the lactation was observed at most lactating women at the 1st month. The distributions of the individual mean volume during the first 5 months of lactation were found over 750m1(8.7% ), 650-750ml(47.9% ), 550-650m1(2l.7% ), and 450-550ml(2l.7% ) The number of feeding per day was 8.1 ($\pm$1.0) at 0.5 months postpartum, which was consistently decreased. However, the mean volume per feeding was increased from 62($\pm$9.5)ml at 0.5 month to 112($\pm$13.3)ml at 5 months postpartum. The milk volume was correlated with the peak volume. and maternal age. but not with weight before delivery. maternal height and birth weight. No differences of milk volume and lactational performance between facto-ovo-vegetarian and nonvegetarian women were observed. This study suggests that the human milk volume cited in the recommended dietary allowances for Koreitns is over estimated.

자폐성 장애 아동의 시공간 및 압력분포 변인을 통한 장애물보행 분석 (Analysis of Obstacle Gait Using Spatio-Temporal and Foot Pressure Variables in Children with Autism)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze of obstacle gait using spatio-temporal and foot pressure variables in children with autism. Fifteen children with autism and fifteen age-matched controls participated in the study. Spatio-temporal and foot pressure variables was investigated using GAITRite pressure sensor system. Each footprint was divided into 12 equal trapezoids and after that the hindfoot, midfoot and forefoot analysis was developed. Independent t-test was applied to compare the gait variables between the groups. The results showed that the autism group were significantly decreased in velocity, cadence, cycle and swing time compared to the control group. The autism group were significantly increased in step width and toe out angle compared to the control group. The autism group were significantly increased at midfoot and forefoot of lateral part of footprint and forefoot of medial part of footprint in the peak time compared to the control group. The autism group were significantly increased at midfoot and hindfoot in $P^*t$, at midfoot in active area, and at hindfoot in peak pressure compared to the control group. In conclusion, the children with autism showed abnormal obstacle gait characteristics due to muscle hypotonia, muscle rigidity, akinesia, bradykinesia and postural control impairments.

Landing with Visual Control Reveals Limb Control for Intrinsic Stability

  • Repetition of landing with visual control in sports and training is common, yet it remains unknown how landing with visual control affects postural stability and lower limb kinetics. The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that landing with visual control will influence on lower limb control for intrinsic dynamic postural stability. Kinematics and kinetics variables were recorded automatically when all participants (n=10, mean age: 22.00±1.63 years, mean heights: 177.27±5.45 cm, mean mass: 73.36±2.80 kg) performed drop landings from 30 cm platform. Visual control showed higher medial-lateral force, peak vertical force, loading rate than visual information condition. This was resulted from more stiff leg and less time to peak vertical force in visual control condition. Leg stiffness may decrease due to increase of perturbation of vertical center of gravity, but landing strategy that decreases impulse force was shifted in visual control condition during drop landing. These mechanism explains why rate of injury increase.
