The ammonia decomposition reaction has been of increasing interest as a means of treating ammonia in flue gas in the presence of precious metal catalyst. Various catalysts, $Pt-Rh/Al_2O_3$, $Pt-Rh/TiO_2$, $Pt-Rh/ZrO_2$, $Pt-Pd/Al_2O_3$, $Pd-Rh/Al_2O_3$, $Pd-Rh/TiO_2$, $Pd-Rh/ZrO_2$, $Pt-Pd-Rh/Al_2O_3$, $Pd/Ga-Al_2O_3$, $Rh/Ga-Al_2O_3$, and Ru/Ga-$Al_2O_3$, were synthesized by using excess wet impregnation method. Using a homemade 1/4" reactor at $10,000{\sim}50,000hr^{-1}$ of space velocity in the presence of precious metal catalyst ammonia decomposition reactions were carried out to investigate the catalyst activity. The inlet ammonia concentration was maintained at 2,000 ppm, with an air balance. Both $T_{50}$ and $T_{90}$, defined as the temperatures where 50% and 90% of ammonia, respectively, are converted, decreased significantly when alumina-supported catalysts were applied. In terms of catalytic performance on the ammonia conversion in the presence of hydrogen sulfide, $Pt-Rh/Al_2O_3$ catalyst showed no effect on the poisoning caused by hydrogen sulfide. These results indicate that platinum-rhodium bimetallic catalyst is a useful catalyst for ammonia decomposition.

The methane combustion reaction was conducted over Pb-ZSM-5 catalysts. ZSM-5 synthesized at low temperature and atomospheric pressure was used as a support. The change of methane conversion with $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ molar ratio was tested. The methane conversions of the synthesized Pb-ZSM-5 catalyst was compared with those of a commercial Pd-ZSM-5(PQ Co.) and $PdO/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$. The methane conversion increased with the decrease in $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ molar ratio. The combustion rate of methane also increased with the decrease in $SiO_2/Al_2O_3$ molar ratio. The synthesized Pb-ZSM-5 showed better methane conversion than that of the commercial one. It is found that a crucial factor in methane combustion reaction is oxygen adsorption strength on the catalysts.
Supported Pd($Pd/AlF_3$, $Pd/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$) catalysts and solid-acid catalysts(${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$, ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$, $AlF_3$) were used to perform dechlorination of HCFC-142b(1-chloro-1,1-difluoroethane) in the presence of excess hydrogen. In the reactions the effects of reaction temperature, the mole ratio(r) of $H_2$ to HCFC-142b and the amount of supported Pd on dechlorination of HCFC-142b into HFC-143a(1,1,1-trifluoroethane) or HFC-152a(1,1-difluoroethane) were investigated. The experimental results showed that the conversion of HCFC-142b to product gases were 60% and 92%, respectively, and the selectivity to HFC-143a in the product gases were 58% and 64% for $Pd/AlF_3$ and $Pd/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ catalysts, respectively. On these catalysts an optimum reaction condition was found at $200^{\circ}C$ with the space time of reactant gases as 1.05 second and the mole ratio of $H_2$ to HCFC-142b as 3. Solid-acid catalysts were also tested at the same reaction condition. The results showed that the conversions of HCFC-142b to product gases were 12%, 8% and 7%, and the selectivities to HFC-152a were 94%, 92% and 90% for ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$, ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ and $AlF_3$ catalysts, respectively.
$TiO_2$ oxide semiconductor is being widely studied in various applications such as photocatalyst and photosensor. Pd/$TiO_2$ gas sensor is mainly used to detect $H_2$, CO and ethanol. This study focus on increasing hydrogen detection ability of Pd/$TiO_2$ in room temperature through Al-doping. Pd/$TiO_2$ was fabricated by the hydrothermal method. Contacting to Aluminum (Al) foil led to Al doping effect in Pd/$TiO_2$ by thermal diffusion and enhanced hydrogen sensing response. $TiO_2$ nanoparticles were sized at ~30 nm of diameter from scanning electron microscope (SEM) and maintained anatase crystal structure after Al doping from X-ray diffraction analysis. Presence of Al in $TiO_2$ was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy at 73 eV. SEM-energy dispersive spectroscopy measurement also confirmed 2 wt% Al in Pd/$TiO_2$ bulk. The gas sensing test was performed with $O_2$, $N_2$ and $H_2$ gas ambient. Pd/Al-doped $TiO_2$ did not response $O_2$ and $N_2$ gas in vacuum except $H_2$. Finally, the normalized resistance ratio ($R_{H2on}/R_{H2off}$) of Pd/Al-doped $TiO_2$ increases about 80% compared to Pd/$TiO_2$.

In this study, the homogenous Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs) were first prepared with bayberry tannin (BT) as the stabilizers. Subsequently, the obtained bayberry tannin-stabilized Pd nanoparticles (BT-Pd) were immobilized onto ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ to prepare heterogeneous ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$-BT-Pd catalysts. Fourier Transformation Infrared Spectrum (FTIR) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) analyses confirmed that the Pd NPs were well stabilized by the phenolic hydroxyl groups of BT. Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) observation indicated that the diameter of the Pd NPs can be effectively controlled in the range of 4.2-16.0 nm by varying the amount of BT. It is found that the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$-BT-Pd catalysts exhibit highly activity for various olefin hydrogenations. For example, the initial TOF (turnover frequency) of the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$-BT-Pd in the allyl alcohol hydrogenation is as high as $12804 mol{\cdot}mol^{-1}{\cdot}h^{-1}$. Furthermore, the ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$-BT-Pd can be reused 5 times without significant loss of activity, exhibiting a superior reusability as compared with conventionally prepared ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$-Pd catalysts.
Pd-$Ce/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3-TiO_2$ catalysts were prepared by combined sol-gel and impregnation methods. Transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, $H_2$-temperature-programmed reduction, $O_2$-temperature-programmed desorption, and ethanol oxidation experiments were conducted to determine the properties of the catalysts. Addition of an optimal amount of Ce improved the performance of the $Pd/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3-TiO_2$ catalyst in promoting the complete oxidation of ethanol. The catalyst with 1% Ce exhibited the highest activity, and catalyzed complete oxidation of ethanol at $175^{\circ}C$; its selectivity to $CO_2$ reached 87%. Characterization results show that addition of appropriate amount of Ce could enrich the PdO species, and weaken the Pd-O bonds, thus enhancing oxidation ability of the catalyst. Meanwhile, the introduction of $CeO_2$ could make PdO better dispersed on ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3-TiO_2$, which is beneficial for the improvement of the catalytic oxidation activity.
The reaction properties of Pd. Pd-Ce and Pd-La catalysts supported on ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ were investigated in the oxidation reaction of methane($CH_4$) exhausted from the compressed natural gas vehicle in a U-tube flow reactor with gas hourly space velocity of $72,000h^{-1}$. The catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), BET surface area and hydrogen chemisorption. Pd catalyst prepared by $Pd(NO_3)_2$ as a palladium precursor and calcined at $600^{\circ}C$ showed the highest activity for a methane oxidation. Catalytic activity of calcined $Pd/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ in which most of palladium was converted into palladium oxide species was higher than that of reduced $Pd/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ in which most of palladium existed in palladium metal by XRD. As increasing the number of reaction cycles in the wide range of redox, the catalytic activity of $Pd/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ was decreased and the highly active window became narrower. Lanthanum oxide promoted Pd catalyst, $Pd/La/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ showed enhanced thermal stability compared with $Pd/{\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ even after aging at $1000^{\circ}C$, which was ascribed to the role of La as a promoter to suppress the sintering of palladium metal and ${\gamma}-Al_2O_3$ support. Almost all of methane was removed by the reaction with NO at the redox ratio of 1.2 in case of oxygen excluded steam, but that activity was significantly decreased in the steam containing oxygen.
In this experiment, an α-Al2O3 ceramic hollow fiber was used as a support, and a hydrogen membrane plated with Pd and Pd-Ag was manufactured through electroless plating. The Pd-Ag membrane was annealed at 500℃ for 10 h to form an alloy of Pd and Ag. It was confirmed that it became a Pd-Ag alloy through EDS (Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy) analysis. Also, the thickness of the Pd, Pd-Ag plating layer was measured to be about 8.98 and 9.29 ㎛ through SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) analysis respectively. Hydrogen permeation experiment was performed using the H2 gas and mixed gas (H2 and N2) in the range of 350~450℃ and 1-4 bar using the prepared hydrogen membrane. Under the H2 gas condition, the Pd and Pd-Ag membrane has a flux of up to 21.85 and 13.76 mL/cm2·min and also separation factors of 1216 and 361 were obtained in the mixed gas at 450℃ and 4 bar conditions respectively.
This paper is aimed to study the effect of Pd activator, the annealing temperature, and operating temperatures on the response characteristics of the $SnO_2/Al_2O_3$ sensor. The resistance of device has shown minimum value when annealing temperature and operating temperature of device are $550^{\circ}C$ and $350^{\circ}C$ respectively in ethanol gas. And the response characteristics of the device showed the best results when lwt% Pd was added to SnOz especially in low concentration of ethanol gas.
A series of Pd-based catalysts were prepared and examined for the amination of 2,6-dimethylphenol in a fixedbed reactor. The best results were obtained for Pd/$Al_2O_3$-BaO with a conversion of 99.89% and a selectivity of 91.16%. These catalysts were characterized using BET, XRD, XPS, TEM and $NH_3$-TPD. Doped BaO not only improved the dispersion of the Pd particles but also decreased the acidity of the catalyst, which remarkably enhanced the selectivity and stability of the catalyst. The generality of Pd/$Al_2O_3$-BaO for this kind of reaction was demonstrated by catalytic aminations of o- and p-alkyl phenols.
