  • 2007 Renewed Korea Elementary Mathematics Curriculum introduce algebra 6th grade. According to many studies about introducing algebra, it is desirable to teach 6th graders algebra through generalization of patterns. In this study, 6th graders' understanding processes and difficulties in pattern generalization were analyzed and possiblities of introducing algebra to 6th graders through pattern generalization were examined.

  • In this paper, we deal with the teaching of the approaching to algebra based on patterns. The change of algebra curriculum has been undergoing in many countries including USA, England, Australia. The traditional algebra curriculum starts with letters(variables), algebraic expressions, and equations. But these formal approaching method has many difficulties in teaching school algebra. Therefore the new algebra curriculum has to be needed, and the approaching to algebra based on patterns has been focused. In this paper, we compare this new approaching to algebra based on patterns to the traditional algebra curriculum. Next we consider the NCTM algebra curriculums based on Standards (1989) and Standards 2000(2000), Britannica textbook series(1998) based on RME. Also we investigate our pattern approaching in our curriculum and discuss some problems from the perspective of the approaching to algebra based on patterns.

  • The object of this study is to analyze manipulative materials in the Pattern & Algebra field of Maths300-Maths with Attitude, Australian school mathematics program with manipulative materials to search meaningful ways for school mathematics. To accomplish these projects, 20 manipulative materials in the Pattern & Algebra field of the Maths with Attitude are introduced and each manipulative materials can be used are searched according to grades and fields of Korean educational course. And 4 mathematics classes for 3rd and 5th grades(two for each grades) with manipulative materials are performed and effect of these classes are examined by recorded data and students' opinions are inquired by questionnaire. First, We analyze Pattern & Algebra of the Maths with Attitude 20 manipulative materials such as 4ARM SHAPES, ADDITION TOTALS, ICE CREAM FLAVOURS, THE LAND OF ET, etc. In this analysis, plans for utilizing the manipulative materials are categorized in 9 types. Second, by students' handling these kinds of manipulative materials in classes, their interest in mathematics is increased and voluntary and creative classes out of the conventional ones can be made. Also, students' self-confidence in mathematics and active participation is animated. This kind of manipulative materials are introduced in the educational field of elementary schools, plans for utilizing the teaching aids in the field are analyzed, the teaching aids are practically applied to classes, and the effect and meanings for mathematics classes are examined. With this research, another researches about the introduction and utilization of other various manipulative materials for motivating students to efficiently understand what they learn in mathematics class of elementary schools are required.

  • Current encryption methods have been applied to secure communication using discrete chaotic system whose output is a noise-like signal which differs from the conventional encryption methods that employ algebra and number theory[1-2] We propose an optical encryption method that transforms the primary pattern into the image pattern of discrete chaotic function first a primary pattern is encoded using permutation algorithm, In the proposed system we suggest the permutation algorithm using the output of key steam generator and its security level is analyzed. In this paper we worked out problem of the application about few discrete chaos function through a permutation algorithm and enhanced the security level. Experimental results with image signal demonstrate the proper of the implemented optical encryption system.

  • Since Zadeh had published the fuzzy set theory at 1965, it has been applied to many fields such as realizability of communication nets, automatic control, learning systems, switching circuits. In this paper, the method of applying a fuzzy logic to a pattern classification is studied and the difference of fuzzy logic from Boolean algebra is discussed. Classfication experiment is carried out 16 persons' photos of three families by fourty male and female observers and recognition rate 94% is obtained.

  • A computer program has been developed to analyze easily the Kikuchi pattern which is useful in obtaining the crystallographic data of materials. This program can simulate the Kikuchi patterns for 14 Bravais lattice by using the matrix algebra. Convenient menu system was also added to enhance the applications of the program. That is, by varying the tilting angle, camera length (RADIUS) and $S_{max}$ in the menu, various Kikuchi patterns can be obtained. The simulated patterns, then, can be compared with the experimentally-obtained Kikuchi pattern to examine validity of simulation.

  • Recently in algebra curriculum, to recognizes and explains general nile expressing patterns is presented as the one alternative and is emphasized. In the seventh School Mathematic Curriculum regarding 'regularity and function' area, in elementary school curriculum, is guiding pattern activity of various form. But difficulty and problem of students are pointing in study for learning through pattern activity. In this article, emphasizes generalization process through research activity of pictorial/geometric pattern that is introduced much on elementary school mathematic curriculum and investigates various approach and strategy of student's thinking, state of symbolization in generalization process of pictorial/geometric pattern. And discusses generalization of pictorial/geometric pattern, difficulty of symbolization and suggested several proposals for research activity of pictorial/geometric pattern.

  • We consider a discrete event dynamic system called periodic job shop, where an identical mixture of items called minimal part set(MPS) is repetitively produced in the same processing order and the primary performance measure is the cycle time. The precedence relationships among events(starts of operations) are represented by a directed graph with rocurront otructure. When each operation starts as soon as all its preceding operations complete(called earliest starting), the occurrences of events are modeled in a linear system using a special algebra called minimax algebra. By investigating the eigenvalues and the eigenvectors, we develop conditions on the directed graph for which a stable steady state or a finite eigenvector exists. We demonstrate that each finite eigenvector, characterized as a finite linear combination of a class of eigenvalue, is the minimum among all the feasible schedules and an identical schedule pattern repeats every MPS. We develop an efficient algorithm to find a schedule among such schedules that minimizes a secondary performance measure related to work-in-process inventory. As a by-product of the linear system approach, we also propose a way of characterizing stable steady states of a class of discrete event dynamic systems.

  • In this paper, we consider changes of algebra strands around the world. And we suggest needs of designing new computer environment where we make and manipulate geometric recursive patterns. For this purpose, we first consider relations among symbols, meanings and patterns. And we also consider Logo environment and characterize algebraic features. Then we introduce L-system which is considered as action letters and subgroup of turtle group. There are needs to be improved since there exists some ambiguity between sign and action. Based on needs of improving the previous L-system, we suggest new commands in JavaMAL microworld. So we design a microworld for recursive patterns and consider meanings of letters in new environments. Finally, we consider the method to integrate L-system and other existing microworlds, such as Logo and DGS. Specially, combining Logo and DGS, we consider the movement of such tiles and folding nets by L-system commands. And we discuss possible benefits in this environment.

  • Numerical simulation is conducted to clarify the heat transfer and fluid flow characteristics of traction motor for electric car SIMPLE algorithm based on finite volume method is used to make linear algebra equation. The governing equations are solved by TDMA(TriDiagonal Matrix Algorithm) with line-by-line method and block correction. From the results of simulation, the characteristics of cooling pattern is strongly affected by the size of hole in stator core. In the case of high rotational speed of rotor, temperature difference along the axial direction is more decreased than that of low rotational speed.
