  • This paper discusses the implementation of a rehabilitation center based on a ubiquitous sensor network. This paper discusses the implementation of a rehabilitation center based on a ubiquitous sensor network. We recognize that certain mild conditions requiring rehabilitation may be treated with minimal human supervision. In place of this constant human supervision, a variety of sensors are used to monitor the patient and rehabilitation progress. These sensors send data through a wireless Zigbee network to a server which stores the data and makes it available to a rehabilitation expert for analysis. This rehabilitation expert also issues rehabilitation prescriptions which are created based on the expert's determination of the patient's condition. By having the ability to control the rehabilitation equipment used, strictly enforce the assigned prescription, and constantly monitor the patient for any warning signs, the system ensures a safe and optimal rehabilitation session.

  • The administration data of the national health insurance and health insurance bills were utilized in this study. The data of 432,915 patients who were at the age of 30 and up and used the out-patient departments of every medical institution located in some regions involving two southern and northern provinces once or more during a 184-day period from July to December. As a result of analyzing their prescription compliance and factors affecting it, the following findings were given: The average rate of the prescription compliance of the patients stood at 61.5 percent. It denoted that they were prescribed to take medicine for approximately 113 days during the six-month(184 days) period of time, and the rate of the patients who complied with the prescriptions just stood at 13.0 percent. They used out-patient department for 4.3 days on the average due to hypertension and they visited 1.1 medical institutions on the average. 94.9 percent just used a medical institution. The largest group (11.6%) suffered from diabetes as co-morbidity, and 23.3 percent of the hypertensives had co-morbidity. Concerning the relationship between their characteristics and prescription compliance, those who were male, who were beneficiaries of the national health insurance, who mainly used general hospitals and who suffered from co-morbidity complied better with the prescription they got. Their prescription compliance got better at the age of 65 to 74 and got worse afterwards. As for factors affecting their prescription compliance, the patients who were male, who were aged between 55 and 64 and who were beneficiaries of the national health insurance, who mainly used specialized general hospitals, general hospitals and public health centers and who had heart diseases and diabetes as co-morbidity complied better with the prescriptions. The above-mentioned findings of the study suggested that it's needed to make a factor analysis of the poor prescription compliance of patients from diverse angles, and that existing hypertension care plans should carefully be reviewed to improve the prescription compliance of patients and to find a feasible alternative. As hypertensives are easily likely to develop co-morbidity like diabetes, systematic health education should be provided for them to get into the right life habits such as taking low-salt meals or quitting smoking. In addition, the development of health care programs is required.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate drug prescription patterns for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients in Korea. Methods: Ambulatory adult patients who were diagnosed and received treatment for the asthma (ICD-10 code J45) or COPD (ICD-10 code J44) from January 2009 to September 2011 in two independent secondary hospitals in Korea were enrolled in this study. Prescribed drug lists were generated based on the evidence-based guidelines and prescribed drug dosage forms were identified from the patient medical records and computerized drug prescription databases of the study centers. Results: Total numbers of asthma and COPD patient enrolled in this study were 2,432 and 2,615, respectively. Individual prescription-based accumulated numbers of patient were 12,021 for asthma and 16,584 for COPD. The most commonly prescribed three drugs were oral predisolone, oral formoterol and oral montelukast for asthma and oral formoterol, oral doxofylline and inhaled tiotropium for COPD. Frequencies of oral drugs were 83.4% and 63.3% while inhalers were 16.4% and 30.2%, for asthma and COPD, respectively. Conclusion: The oral treatment was prescribed more in asthma and COPD patients than inhalers. To enhance the compliance of evidence-based guidelines for these chronic airway diseases, more realistic and specific strategies to increase the use of inhalers recommended as primary treatment options for asthma and COPD would be required.

  • Lineacgrams are diagnostic films taken using X-ray from the linear accelerator with the patient in the treatment position to assure that the treatment is being delivered in accordance with the treatment prescription. But the image quality of the lineacgram is so bad because of the high X-ray energy. This paper presents a new algorithm that enhances the image of lineacgram. Thls algorithm calculates optimal threshold value which is used for segmentation of lineacgram using co-occurrence matrix and enhances the image Inside and outside treatment area preserving treatments boundary.

  • Recently many small and mid-sized hospitals are closing down or experiencing financial difficulties. As a result, in order to provide exceptional service that would increase their competitiveness, they implemented telemedicine service for the prescription of medicine necessary before a colonoscopy. This study is an analysis of how telemedicine service affects patient satisfaction. Through the focus group interview (FGI) of medical service providers, regarding telemedicine service and face-to-face service, it was appraised that telemedicine service was more effective than face-to-face service. Afterward, a second survey aimed at endoscopy patients was conducted in order to find out the value of telemedicine service. First, through the analysis of the three main factors of telemedicine service, conclusions were drawn(safety/reliability, convenience/rapidity, and economics). A follow-up analysis showed that convenience/rapidity had the greatest effect on telemedicine service satisfaction. Next the factors of the quality of medical service were analyzed and 3 main factors were deduced (the superiority of the external and internal environments/appropriateness, superiority of the medical team, telemedicine service). A follow-up analysis found that telemedicine service had the greatest effect on patient satisfaction. This study found that providing exceptional medical service that utilizes telemedicine service would improve patient satisfaction. Therefore, we would be able to form a strategic plan that would strengthen the competitiveness of small and mid-sized hospitals.

  • In oriental medicine, it is rare to recommend the same herbal medicine to other patients because it is very effective in using a certain medicine for a patient with a certain disease. Because the same prescription works well for some people, but very bad results for some people. In order to solve this problem, we developed an algorithm that automatically recommends medicinal products when the patient biometric and Sasang constitution information are selected in the web program. Moreover, in this paper, it developed SWproducts to automatically determine the patients' constitution.
