  • This paper describes a design and implementation of the NFC bridge chip which performs interface between kinds of devices and mobile phones including NFC controller through NFC communication. The NFC bridge chip consists of the digital part and the analog part which are based on NFC Forum standard. Therefore the chip treats RF signals and then transforms the signal to digital data, so it can interface kinds of devices with the digital data. Especially the chip is able to detect RF signals and then wake up the host processor of a device. The wakeup function dramatically decreases the power consumption of the device. The carrier frequency is 13.56MHz, and the data rate is up to 424kbps. The chip has been fabricated with SMIC 180nm mixed-mode technology. Additionally an NFC bridge chip application to the blood glucose measurement system is described for an application example.

  • This paper describes a low-power baseband circuit for SAW-less LTE-Advanced transmitters. The proposed transmitter baseband circuit consists of a 2nd-order Tow-Thomas type active RC-LPF and a 1st-order passive RC LPF. It can provide a 7 multi-channel cut-off frequencies and wide gain control range of -41 dB ~ 0 dB with a 1-dB step. The proposed 2nd-order active RC-LPF adopts an op-amp in which three other sub-op amps are in parallel connected to reduce DC current for different cutoff frequency. In addition, each sub-op amp adopts both Miller and feed-forward phase compensation method to achieve an UGBW of more than 1-GHz with a small DC power consumption. The proposed baseband circuit is implemented in 65-nm CMOS technology, consuming DC power from 6.3 mW to 24.1 mW from a 1.2V supply voltage for each different cut-off frequency.

  • This study investigated subtypes of men who batter, and explored the differences among them. It was based on 217 subjects from all around the nation who received legal punishment. In the analysis of the typology, we specifically tested whether the Holtzworth-Munroe and Stuart proposed typology was verified. The results of the cluster analysis revealed support for their theoretical distinction for three types of abusers. These results imply that Holtzworth-Munroe and Stuart's batterer typology is applicable to Korean batterers to some degree. Type 1 men demonstrated the lowest levels of physical and psychological abuse toward their wives and were the least likely to have had a history of child abuse or alcohol problems. These men had lower MCMI scores and did not show any extraordinary personality traits. Men in this category were violent only against their wives, had relatively liberal sex role attitudes and had the most satisfaction in their intimate relationships. Type 2 men were violent only at home, using a moderate level of violence. These men had very high levels of dependency on others and showed a borderline, avoident or passive-aggressive personality. The amount of alcohol consumption was similar to Type 1, but scores of jealousy, self-esteem, and attitudinal variables were similar to Type 3 men. They lacked assertiveness skills and reported the least marital satisfaction. Type 3 men used the most severe violence and were violent both inside and outside the home. These men showed signs of antisocial and aggressive personality. They had experienced frequent physical abuse during childhood, were the most likely to abuse alcohol and had lower self-control. Type 3 were the most traditional in their views of women's roles and had attitudes supporting violence. Based upon the study findings, practical implications of enhancing treatment efficacy were considered.

  • Recently, as the interest in Green IT is exponentially increased, EPON with sleep mode has been studied to reduce energy consumption in access network. In oder to guarantee cyclic sleep for ONU(Optical Network Units), EPON with sleep mode transmits upstream and downstream data at the same time. However, since conventional algorithms for sleep mode in EPON allocate bandwidth to each ONU according to upstream bandwidth request, the QoS of downstream data is not guaranteed when the offered load of OLT is larger than that of ONU. In this paper, we propose a bandwidth allocation algorithm for improving QoS in EPON with sleep mode. The proposed algorithm compares its size with an upstream request of ONU when a downstream buffer in the OLT exceeds a QoS threshold. And then it allocates selectively a bandwidth that satisfies the required QoS between the bandwidth request of ONU and OLT. Therefore, the proposed algorithm can save energy through cyclic sleep of ONUs while guaranteeing the QoS of up/downstream data. In order to evaluate the proposed algorithm, we perform simulation in terms of total sleep time of ONUs, queueing delay between OLT and ONU, and the utilization of allocated bandwidth at OLT through OPNET.

  • This paper is concerned to constitute a semi-active realtime feedback vibration control system and evaluate it through experiments in order to control in realtime the vibration externally generated, specially on the bridges which is structurally flexible. For the experiment of vibration control, we built a model bridge structure of Seohae Grand Bridge in a 1/200 reduced form and inflicted El-centro wave on the model structure also in a reduced force considering the lab condition. The externally excited vibration was to be controled by placing a shear type MR damper vertically on the center of bridge span, and the response (displacement and acceleration) of structure was to be acquired by placing LVDT and Accelerometer at the same time. As for the experiment concerning controlling vibration, a realtime feedback vibration control experiments were performed under each different condition largely such as un-control, passive on/off control, Lyapunov stability theory control, and Clipped-optimal control. Its control performance under different condition was quantitatively evaluated in terms of the peak absolute displacements, the peak absolute accelerations and the power required for control on the center of span. The results of experiments proved that the Lyapunov control and clipped-iptimal control were effective to decrease the displacement and acceleration of the structure, and also to decrease the power consumption to a great extent. Finally, the semi-active realtime feedback vibration control system constituted in this research was proven to be an effective way to control and manage the vibration generated on bridge structure.

  • For 65 national forest areas in 1993 to 2008, the ambient sulfur dioxide ($SO_2$) concentrations were measured monthly using passive samplers and compared to the those of urban areas in order to investigate the characteristics of temporal and spatial distribution. In the forest areas, annual average concentration of sulfur dioxide gradually decreased from the beginning year of monitoring to 1997 and then had no significant change, such as the annual trend in urban areas monitored by Ministry of Environment. For the monitoring term, average concentration of sulfur dioxide in the forest areas was 5.6ppb, which was lower than the 10.1ppb in the urban areas and the EC ecological standard level (7.6 ppb). Seasonally, both in forest areas and urban areas the monthly average concentrations were much higher in winter and spring due to much more heating fuel consumption, and lowest in summer. Regional comparison to other regions of Gyeongbuk and Gyeonggi province showed that the concentration of sulfur dioxide was the highest during year. A significant positive correlation between sulfur oxides' emissions and sulfur dioxide concentration by province was observed, reflecting that the size and proximity of sources of atmospheric sulfur oxides could be important factors in determination.

  • Background: The pathogenesis of orofacial cleft (OFC) is multifactorial, involving both genetic and non-genetic factors, the latter of which play a key role in the development of these anomalies. This paper addresses the incidence of OFC in Indonesia, with a focus on identifying and examining the distribution of contributory factors, including parental medical history, pregnancy history, and environmental influences. Methods: The study was conducted through the collection of primary data. An interdisciplinary research team from Indonesia administered a standardized questionnaire to parents who had children with OFC and who had provided informed consent. The case group comprised 133 children born with cleft lip and/or palate, and the control was 133 noncleft children born full-term. The risk factors associated with OFC anomalies were analyzed using the chi-square test and logistic regression. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 25. A p-value of 0.05 or less was considered to indicate statistical significance. Results: The study comprised 138 children, of whom 82 were boys (59.4%) and 56 were girls (40.6%). Among them, 45 patients (32.6%) presented with both cleft lip and cleft palate, 25 individuals (18.1%) had a cleft palate only, and 28 patients (20.3%) had a cleft lip only. OFC was found to be significantly associated with a maternal family history of congenital birth defects (p<0.05), complications during the first trimester (p<0.05), consumption of local fish (p<0.05), caffeine intake (p<0.05), prolonged medication use (p<0.05), immunization history (p<0.05), passive smoking (p<0.05), and X-ray exposure during pregnancy (p<0.05). Conclusion: The findings indicate close relationships between the incidence of OFC and maternal medical history, prenatal factors, and environmental influences.
