This study is to investigate global logistics strategies of Korean electronics companies. in terms of service parts. According to the survey, Korean electronics companies were pursuing multi-level global logistics network such as global, continental, national, regional and service center echelon for improving the efficiency of service parts global logistics. Especially there was a tendency of developing new continental distribution centers. And the companies were exploiting efficiency through inventory control by multi-level echelon, demand forecasting by the product life cycle and supply and service lead time management. But there were some insufficient factors for the efficiency of global logistics operation at the construction of worldwide real time logistics information system and pursuit of the efficiency on the whole network including subcontractors. For the future competitive advantage of the Korean electronics companies, the following are suggested: 1) the establishment of arranged logistics channel adjusting each company's global strategy, 2) the construction of worldwide real time logistics information system, 3) the reengineering of all logistics procedures such as order processing, shipping, inventory control, etc., 4) the enhancement of the ratio of the supply from the external companies and the internal manufacturing subsidiaries at each continent, 5) and the pursuit of operational internalization of external subcontractors.

Due to limitation of resources and increasing concerns about environment, reverse logistics has received growing attention in recent years. In this paper, we propose three types of reverse logistics networks based on reuse of returnable containers, materials recycling process and remanufacturing for parts reuse. First, the sender in the re-usable item network supplies containers for the recipient and orders either new containers from external supplier or returnable containers cleaned from the container depot. Second, the recycling center in the proposed recycling network collects either end of life products from customer or faulty goods from manufacturer, collected products are dismantled into materials and materials go into recycling process. Finally, the manufacturer in the proposed remanufacturing network has two alternatives for supplying parts: either ordering the required parts to external supplier or overhauling disassembled parts and bringing them back 'as new' conditions. In this product recovery environment, we build optimal order quantity models to minimize the total logistics costs related to reverse logistics network. The validity of the proposed model is investigated through comprehensive computational experiments.
Despite the increase in sales of imported vehicles in Korea, research on the sales forecast of parts logistics centers is very limited. This study aims to perform a sales prediction on bestselling goods in the automobile part logistics center. System dynamics was adopted as a methodology for the prediction method, which considered causal relationship of variables that affected the dynamic characteristics and feedback loops. The analysis results showed that the consumable sales amount of oil increased over time. As a result of conducting the MAPE, the model was assessed to be a reasonable predictive model of 31.3%. In addition, the sales of battery products increased from every October in both of actual and predicted data followed by the peak sales in December and then decrease from next February. This study has academic implications that it secured actual data of specific imported automobile part logistics center, which has not done before in previous studies and quantitatively analyzed the prediction of the quantity of released goods of future sales through system dynamics.

In this paper, a methodology for reinforcing reverse logistics (RL) activities in a closed-loop supply chain (CLSC) model is proposed. For the methodology, the activities of the recovery center (RC) which can be considered as one of the facilities in the RL are reinforced. By the reinforced activities in the RC, the recovered parts and products after checking and recovering processes of the returned product from customer can be reused in the forward logistics (FL) of the CLSC model. A mathematical formulation is suggested for representing the CLSC model with reinforced RL activities, and implemented using a hybrid genetic algorithm (HGA) approach. In numerical experiment, two different scales of the CLSC model are presented and the performance of the HGA approach is compared with those of some conventional approaches. The experimental results show that the former outperforms the latter in most of performance measures. The robustness of the CLSC model is also proved by regulating various rates of the recovered parts and products in the RC.
In the statement of logistics reliability prediction methodology, all components should be managed as the analysis objectives. However, in some reliability prediction of weapon systems, fastening parts, e.g., screws, bolts and nuts, have been frequently ignored because some organizations related to weapon systems have emphasized that those parts are not significant in their failures rate and functions. In this paper, failure rates, modes, and distributions were presented to prove that fastening parts should be included in reliability prediction objectives. Also, failure rate prediction methods of fastening parts are presented and compared.

Customer centered supply chain Management is becoming a very important issue for manufacturing and distribution company. Increasingly, leading companies improve their competitiveness by shorting the time to delivery from warehousing to delivering, increasing the level of customer service. They also do their best to collaborate with suppliers and customers based on the information sharing. This case introduces a integrated approach to develop a logistics automation and information system for the spare parts distribution center of L electronics. We pursue to optimize the supply chain by implementing intelligent logistics system which has the capabilities of responding to the changes in market demands. This would provide many implications to the clients in solving logistics problems and secure superior competitiveness.

As computing paradigm of the next generation, Ubiquitous Computing has emerged owing to growing of the Internet and computer networking technologies, and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) which is the core technology to achieve(realize, actualize) the Ubiquitous Computing environment, is being noticed. MIT's Auto-ID Center has proposed PML(Physical Markup Language) which is based on XML (Extensible Markup Language), is a standard language for describing physical objects, in order to interchange of data between each of these RFID application systems. The PML defines only core parts to describe physical objects, but on the other hand the other parts to be needed in practical application have to be defined with extended definitions separately. In this paper, therefore, the object information data model was designed, which defines the type of the object in order. to process electronic tag information in the RFID application service based on PML Core of Auto-ID Center and is applicable to the distribution service parts.
Demand forecasting is one of the most critical tasks in defense logistics, because the failure of the task can bring about a huge waste of budget. Up to date, ROK-MND(Republic of Korea - Ministry of National Defense) has analyzed past component consumption data with time-series techniques to predict each component's demand. However, the accuracy of the prediction still needs to be improved. In our study, we attempted to find consumption pattern using data mining techniques. We gathered an 18,476 component consumption data first, and then derived diverse features to utilize them in identification of demanding patterns in the consumption data. The results show that our approach improves demand forecasting with higher accuracy.

The purpose of Container Terminal Facilities Arrangement is efficiently arrangement of each unit logistics parts. Facilities Arrangement is rationally accomplished to be minimize moving time, prevent reverse trip, optimal space utilization, benefit of worker, minimize handling cost. Thus, It is important that expert knowledge and mathmatical analysis method to rationally facilities arrangement. In this paper we framed SLP(Systematic Layout Planning} Procedure and described to the process of application.

This paper presents a method for designing layout on the yard and evaluating alternative designs of the layout by applying simulation. The design method is based on the concepts of the conventional port container terminal with yard layout, In general, yard design of the container terminal is consists of the two major parts. One is to divide yard area between the number of sections and the number of runs and the other is to decide the number of equipment that is the yard truck and yard crane. In the past days, this design was depended on the experience of the terminal operator and the reproduction of the conventional terminal layout because it is a very complex decision problem. In this paper, we suggest the method of yard design as a conceptual procedure and estimate the efficiency of the container crane and the optimal number of equipment using simulation. In the experiment results, the number of sections and runs on yard area, the number of yard truck per container crane and the number of yard crane per run are decided. In addition, the traffic flow among blocks on yard layout is estimated in terms of rate.
