Objectives : This study aims to identify sexual behaviors in sexually abused children to assess the Child Sexual Behavior Inventory(CSBI) score of sexual behaviors reported in children by their parents to analyze the relation of these sexual behaviors to demographic variables, familial variables, and characteristics of sexual abuse variables. Method : A large sample of 2-13 year old children(N=121) were rated by their caregiver via parent report consisting of CSBI, the Child Behavior Checklist(CBCL), and a questionnaire assessing characteristics of family history and sexual abuse variables. Results : There were significantly related to the CSBI score; younger children(2-5 year old group) had significantly higher scores than older children. Maternal education also related to the CSBI score, in that mothers with higher levels of education report more CSBI scores than less educated mothers. There were significant differences according to characteristics of victim victim with penile penetration of vegina and genital exposure of offender had higher score in the CSBI than others. Also, when perpeturator was an acquaintance, the CSBI scores increased. Conclusion : Sexual behavior related to childs age, maternal education, penile penetration of vegina, and genital exposure, parental emotional state and personality traits. Findings were primarily similar to previously published studies. The suggestions and the limitations of this study, and directions of future study were discussed.
This study is an attempt to give basic information for sex maleducation, which is the integration of emotional, moral and social aspects as well as generative and physiological ones. It is concerned with both students and parents' sexual knowledge, attitude and need for sex education. The participants for this study are consisted of 193 parents, and 492 boys and girls high school students in Seoul. The main results of this study are as follows: 1. General Characteristics 66.5 percent of students is the girl and 38.8 percent of students is christian. Regarding parents age, 73.6 percent of them is 40~49 year old and 30.6 percent of them is Buddhist. 50.5 percent of them is graduated from high school, almost of them are keeping on being married(90.9%). 2. Sexual Knowledge: The boys score higher grade(average 8.98) than the girls. (average 7.51) (p<0.001) The Parents appear to record average 11.5, higher than the students' 8.01(p<0.01). However, there is no difference between them depending on their age, educational level or marital condition. 3. Sexual Attitude: The boys have more affirmative and positive feelings on the generative and physiological sides than girls. They also have a positive attitude to usual sides such as marriage, sexual intercourse and pregnancy, compared with girls. The girls have negative and irrecipient attitude to unusual sides like divorce, premarital sex or extramarital sex, while the boys are recipient(p<0.01). The parents' sexual attitude is positive feelings on the generative and physiological sides, and they also have a positive attitude to usual sides but they have a negative attitude to unusual sides. 4. Correlation between sexual knowledge and attitude Both the students and parents have positive correlation between sexual knowledge and attitude to generative and physiological sines and usual sides. The higher scores. of the sexual knowledge are, The more positive attitude they have. But parents only have positive carrelation between sexual knowledge and attitude to unusual sides. The lower scores of the sexual knowledge are, The more negative attitude they have. 5. More than half of the parents educate their high school children in sex: menstruation(75.0%), sexual hygiene (59.1%). intersexual fellowship(69.7%). marriage(62.0%) and chastity(51.9%) 6. Need for sexual education The students and the parents have almost the same opinions on this subject. Regarding pregnancy. delivery, family planning, dilatation and currettage and divorce, however, the students want to learn in high school. while the parents expect sex education later in high school.
The handicapped frequently suffer from inappropriate food intake often resulting in overweightness, malnutrition, and poor growth and development. Our study was done on 7 to 12 year old mentally retarded children attending a special education school in Seoul. We administered questionnaire surveys and 3-day dietary recalls of the subjects, with help when needed from their stay-at home or their care-giving teachers. The questionnaires covered the general characteristics and dietary behaviors of the subjects. The degrees of handicap of the 142 children ranged from the trainable (54.9%), the educable (31.0%), and the non-trainable (14.1%). Of the children studied, 70.4% had ‘breakfast always’, which was higher than normal. Appetites were highest in the Down's Syndrome group. We found that the more serious the handicap, the higher the breakfast eating ratio and appetite level. The main reason for their missing breakfast differed according to the handicap level: ‘late rising’in the educable and non-trainable groups but ‘no appetite’in the trainable group. Most of the children (52.2%) spent less than 20 minutes eating their meals, the parents described their children's dietary habit problems as a pica (22:3%) or overeating (17.3%) , and they indicated that teaching the children how to use spoons and chopsticks (33.1%) was the most stressful. Actually more than 85% of the subjects could not use chopsticks, and skill of using cutlery was significantly different according to the degree of handicap. The food preference for milk products was the highest. It was interesting that the handicapped who had serious food pica didn't like food groups such as grains/starches, meats/fishes/eggs/beans or vegetables/fruits.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of oral health care including some of dental caries activity test on dental clinics of regular visiting on primary school children. The dental surveys and initial caries control and some of dental caries activity test (Alban's, Lactobacillius, S'mutans, un-stimulation saliva test)were performed by trained dental hygienists with dentist from on 6 to 13 years old patients of S dental hospital in Gwangju Metropolitan Cities. The sample size of 39 children (18 in oral health care group, 21 in control group ) and accepted to their parents. The results of caries activity test score(Alban's and Lactobacillius test)were reduced 1.4 to 1.6 times in oral health care group(OHCG). Oral Hygiene Simplified Index of OHCG was reduced 1.6 times during six months and 1 year. DMFT index of OHCG was reduced 1.4 times more than Control Group(CG) after 1 year. DT index of OHCG was reduced 12 times more than Control Group(CG) after 1 year. Dental health capacity of the first perment molar of OHCG was reduced 1.02 times more than CG after 1 year. From the above results, long life related incremental oral health care system has reinforced to primary school children in dental clinic with oral health professional teams.
A survey on the traditional management of dietary life, seasonal diets, and frequency of using traditional fermented foods, was conducted from six hundred forty housewives living in rural areas of Yosu and Yocheon district, and the following results were obtained. 1. Majority of the subjects was in the range of 50-59 years old (43.1%), elementary schooling in education (38.1%), composition of family with parents and children (57.5%) with 3-4 family members (40.6%), and annual income of 5-8 million Won. 2. Korean style-house (36.7%), modernized kitchen (58.5%), and liquid fuel (69.7%) held the majority of the living environment. 3. Most of the households possessed refrigerator (98.9%), kitchenette range (98.4%) and electric rice pot (97.9%). 4. Access to traditional dishes was mostly prompted through elders or friends (84%). Preparing a meal was regarded to be a troublesome duty (41.5%). Husband's preference was the major factor for the meal preparation (53.7%) and about 30 min was spent for preparing dinner (53.7%). 5. Cooked rice was a main staple (99.5%) while three kinds of Kimchi (55.3%) were served as prime side dishes in the diets. Most Kimchi(94.7%) was prepared at home. To this basic menu, two or three side dishes were added at breakfast (77.2%), lunch (76.1%), and dinner (65.4%). MSG (mono-sodium glutamate) was consumed by 62.2% of the households. 6. Most rural households prepared traditional dishes on the traditional holidays in lunar calendar including New Year's Day (98.9%), First Full Moon of The Year (81.4%), and Autumn Full Moon (96.8%). 7 Traditional fermented foods prepared at home comprised Kimchi (87.2%), soybean paste (75.5%), red pepper soybean paste (73.9%), and soy sauce (70.7%).
The aim of this study was to examine trajectories in and predictors of marital satisfaction among parents with one year old baby. Latent growth modeling was used with a sample of 984 households. Data from Panel Study on Korean Children conducted by Korea Institute of Child Care and Education were used. The study results revealed that for both fathers and mothers, marital satisfaction decreased over time after the birth of the first child. However, fathers' marital satisfaction decreased more steeply than mothers'. Furthermore, mothers' employment was associated with the changes of fathers' marital satisfaction. Father involvement and marital conflict predicted changes of mothers' marital satisfaction. These findings show that factors such as father involvement and marital conflict are more highly associated with changes in mothers' marital satisfaction than fathers'. Also, the study suggests that parent education should be systematically organized to promote father involvement and to resolve marital conflict.
This study assessed the nutrient consumption of children from lunch at day care centers and kindergartens. A total of 184 lunch plates were selected in two child day care centers and two kindergartens in Seoul. Weights of the menus in planned meals were measured and amount of served and consumed lunches were calculated using a digital photography technique. Nutrients of the planned, served, and consumed lunches were assessed using CAN-Pro 4.0 and the Index of Nutritional Quality (INQ) was calculated for each meal. Compared with the estimated energy requirement for lunch for 3-5 year old children, the planned meals of the child day care centers and kindergartens contributed 42.8% and 98.8% of the daily energy requirements, respectively. At a child day care center, a served meal provided more nutrients than a planned meal since some children requested more servings after eating the served meals. This showed that the planned meal did not meet children's needs as well as the nutrient requirements. At the other child care center, children were served less than the planned meal by 6.8%, which resulted in serving less energy, calcium, potassium, and vitamin C than the required nutrients for lunch. Kindergarten A served meals with the energy requirement for lunch of 101.8%, but Kindergarten B served a meal with the energy requirement of 83.5%. Since the served portions were too small to meet nutrient requirements of the children, they consumed almost all the food served, and their nutrient consumption was similar to the nutrients served. Even though they consumed all the food served, their nutrient consumption did not meet their nutritional requirements. When assessed by INQ, the quality of the meal was good; children could consume enough nutrients when served proper quantity. Teachers who are responsible for serving meals need to be educated on proper portion sizes and how to encourage children to practice healthy eating. To promote healthy eating among children, parents need to provide children with messages consistent with what they have learned at institutions and to be a good role model in daily dietary life.

The research has been carried out to examine how sensory processing ability of children of multicultural families in farming areas can affect their social maturity. Short sensory profile and social maturity scale were conducted to fifty four children of multinational parents who live in Gyeongsangbuk-do and Jeollanam-do. The data were analysed by statistics process. The result of the analysis revealed three findings. Firstly, there exieted certain delays in sensory processing ability and social maturity. Multicultural children had an average point of $154.33{\pm}21.24$ regarding sensory processing ability and with regards to social age and social quotient of social maturity of them were 1.76 year old and $91.28{\pm}18.31$ point respectively. Another interesting finding is that significant differences of the influence, in which sensory processing ability of the example group affected social maturity, were found in categories of movement sensitivity, underresponsive/seeks sensation and low energy/weak of social age part(p<0.05). There were significant differences between auditory filtering as well as movement sensitivity, underresponsive sensation and low energy/weak of social quotient area(p<0.05). Finally, variables of the impact on social maturity of the group of children were analysed to examine to what extent sensory processing ability of the children had affected and the influencing rate of social age and social quotient of social maturity, with 45.3% and 66.3% respectively.

To investigate the response rate for family examination and the morbidity of family members, we reviewed the medical records of 1,525 tuberculosis patients at health center of Sunsan county in Kyungpook province from January 1981 to December 1990. The response rate for family examination in the first period(1981-1985) was 20.0%, and that in the second period(1986-1990) was 78.8%. The response rate for family examination was rapidly increased with the year. The kinship between the tuberculosis patients and examinees was very closely related with the response rate of family examination. The radiological finding was closely related with rate for family examination was 63.0% in the children of patients, 28.9% in wives or husbands of patients, 28.8% in other relatives and 19.9% the morbidity rate of family examinees. The severe the radiological finding, the higher the tuberculosis morbidity rate of family examinees. The prevalent rates of family examinees were 6.2% in parents, 4.3% in wives or husbands, 1.1% in children, and 1.5% in other relatives of parents. The results of this study suggest that the response rate for family examination should be increased especially for the old people, such as parents of tuberculosis patients.
Purpose: We measured anti-H. pylori IgG in Korean elementary school children living in Shinchon area of Seoul, Korea to evaluate the influence of environmental living standards on H. pylori infection. Methods: IgG antibodies to H. pylori were measured in plasma using a commercial ELISA kit (GAP IgG Helicobacter pylori, Bio-Rad Laboratories Inc., Hercules, CA, USA). Information on environmental status such as place of birth, parental income, type of housing, number of persons in the household, parents' occupation, family history of peptic ulcer disease and gastric cancer was obtained. Statistical analysis was done by Chi-square and logistic regression test using SPSS $7.0^{TM}$ for Windows. Results: Study subjects consisted of 571 children, and the age distribution ranged from 6.0 to 13.6 years with a mean of $9.6{\pm}1.8$ years. Male-to-female ratio was 1.1:1. The seropositive rates of H. pylori infection ranged from 10.4% in children aged 6 years to 30.9% in 12 year-old group, overall 16.8%. The prevalence of H. pylori infection progressively increased with age, but there was no significant difference in seropositive rates among children in different age groups (p=0.06). Seropositive rates of anti-H. pylori IgG on the basis of gender, place of birth, parental income, type of housing, parents' occupation, family history of peptic ulcer disease and gastric cancer showed no statistically significant difference. Interestingly, however, seropositive rate of anti-H. pylori IgG showed statistical significance in relation to number of persons in the household (p=0.003; Odds ratio 1.50 by logistic regression test). Conclusion: These results suggest that number of persons in the household is the most important factor among environmental living standards, and that risk of H. pylori infection increases by increment of 1.5 times as the number of persons in the household increases by one.
