The purpose of this study is to identify parental stress of working mothers with young children and to fine its rented variables. subjects were consisted of 108 working mothers who had children from 3 to 6 ages. The measurement instruments are the questionnaire which consisting the following parts; Parenting Daily Hassles, Employment Subjective Expected Utility, Beck Depression Inventory, Emotionality, Activity, Sociablity Temperament Scale. The data were analyzed by the statistical method based on frequency, percentile, t-test, F-test, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression. The main results were as follows: 1. Parental stress of working mother had a significant correlation with working mothers' negative attitudes for their occupations. 2. The higher working mothers' depression resulted in the higher working parental stress. 3. There was a significant positive correlation between children's difficult temperament and parental stress of working mothers. 4. The influential variables on parental stress of working mothers were mothers' attitude to her occupations and children's temperament.
Although the globally known one-child policy in China was abolished in 2016, the overall fertility rate in the country declined to 1.3 in 2020. In this study, we examined whether the achievement of major developmental tasks during the childrearing stage was associated with intentions to have a second child among Chinese married women. Based on family development theory, we included parenting adaptation, division of childcare responsibilities with the partner, and marital adjustment as key developmental tasks during the childrearing stage. The participants of this study were 315 married Chinese women who lived with a spouse and a child who had not yet entered elementary school. Data were collected through an online survey in February and March 2021. A multiple regression analysis of the data revealed that a lower level of economic parenting stress, a higher level of fairness in dividing childcare responsibilities with the partner, and a more positive change in their marital relationship after having the first child were associated with greater intentions to have a second child.
The purpose of this study was to examine: (1) how mothers generally react to children's negative emotions; (2) whether there were relationships between children's temperament and mothers' reactions to children's negative emotions; (3) whether there were relationships between mothers' depression and parenting stress, and their reactions to children's negative emotions; (4) whether there were relationships between mothers' reactions to children's negative emotions and children's behavior problems; and (5) whether there were relationships between mothers' reactions to children's negative emotions and children's social competence. The subjects were 246 preschoolers and their mothers. It was found that emotion-focused socialization and problem-focused socialization were the most frequently used reactions by mothers to cope with children's negative emotions. Relationships between children's temperament and mothers' reactions to children's negative emotions, those between mothers' depression and parenting stress and their reactions to children's negative emotions, those between mothers' reactions to children's negative emotions and children's behavior problems, and those between mothers' reactions to children's negative emotions and children's social competency were all partially significant. Sex differences were found in some of the relationships found significant.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the factors that may affect quality of life of mothers who delivered premature infants. Methods: With survey design, data were collected from 145 mothers of premature infants with corrected age of 2 months to 12 months from January 9 to February 2, 2017. Quality of life was assessed with two measures of direct survey in the selected hospital and online survey. A self-report questionnaire was administered regarding personality of the mothers and the infants, postpartum depression, parenting stress, social support, and the quality of life. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. Results: The quality of life of the mothers of the premature infants was influenced by postpartum depression, parenting stress, parents-infant dysfunctional interactions, and social support accounted for 65% of the variance. Conclusion: These results indicate that early screening and continuous management of postpartum depression during postpartum period are important to improve the quality of life of the mothers of the premature infants. Education program and information and social support systems need to be developed to monitor mother-infant interaction and their role development.
Purpose: The study was done to investigate behavioral problems in toddlers who were born prematurely and to analyze related factors. Methods: A cross-sectional explorative study was conducted with 72 preterm birth (PTB) children at 24 to 41 months of corrected age who were born at 28 to 37 weeks' gestation. During home visits, behavior problems were assessed using the Behavior Rating Index for Children (BRIC). Using a BRIC score of ${\geq}30$, children with suspected behavior problems were grouped in the non-regular behavior group. Results: Of the children, 38.9% belong to the non-regular behavior group. The mental development index score for the Korean-Bayley Scale of Infant Development- II was higher for the non-regular behavior group compared to the regular behavior group (t=2.26, p=.027). Logistic regression analysis showed that lower maternal attachment (<96, OR=3.4, 95% CI[1.1, 10.4]) and higher parenting stress (${\geq}97$, OR=4.8, 95% CI[1.3, 17.3]) were independently related to non-regular behavior. Conclusion: PTB Toddlers are at risk for behavior problems which are associated with low cognitive performance. Maternal-child attachment and maternal parenting stress were strongly related to behavior problems in these children. More attention is needed to understand possible behavior problems in young children with PTB, particularly focusing on maternal-child interaction and maternal mental well-being.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors influencing the interaction between mothers and preschool-age children and construct a structural equation model based on the factors identified. Methods: The data were collected from the mothers of children aged three to six years enrolled in kindergartens in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Chungbuk, and Jeonbuk. A total of 328 questionnaires were used for the analysis. Analysis was performed using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 26.0 programs. Results: The child's self-regulation (β = .42, p < .001) had the most significant influence on the interaction between mothers and preschool children, followed by the mother's parenting stress (β = - .23, p = .008), social support (β = .17, p < .001), and the child's active temperament (β = .15, p < .001). The child's gender, emotional temperament, social temperament, and mother's education level had indirect influences. Conclusion: These results suggest that interventions considering the child's temperament, mother's parenting stress, and social support are required to promote the interaction between preschool-age children and mothers.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of care burden among mothers of children with developmental disabilities on depression and the moderating effects of formal and informal social support. Method: The self-report questionnaires were administered to 200 mothers of children with developmental disabilities (aged 6~20 years) in pre-adulthood in Gyeongi-do. A hierarchical regression analysis was conducted. Result: First, There is a need to provide a mental health program that can relieve depression. Second, Individualized intervention strategies for mothers' psychological counseling and support programs for intensive case management and parenting stress management programs are needed. Third, Individual visit case management is required. In addition, it is necessary to expand the eligibility for care services and to maintain long-term programs. Conclusion: The findings suggested that there is a need to provide mothers with not only personal assistance program but also services such as mothers' psychological counseling, peer mentor program, and parenting stress management.
The purpose of this study was to identify a couple's parental efficacy combination and, then, analyze parental role-sharing and parenting stress according to this combination type. The subjects were 307 couples who have a child in 1st or 2nd grade. The main results were as follows: First, fathers and mothers, as a group, did not differ in terms of parental efficacy. Secondly, some demographic variables related to parental efficacy. Thirdly, there are more couples who have similar levels of parental efficacy than those who have different levels of parental efficacy. Fourth, no significant difference in parental role-sharing was found among the 4 types of couple's parental efficacy. Fifth, mothers had low parental stress when both of the couple had high levels of parental efficacy while fathers perceived low parental stress if only he, himself, had a high level of parental efficacy.

Grit or perseverance as a factor for student success and life has gained increasing attention. Statistical methods have been the norm in analyzing various aspects of grit, but they do not address the transient and dynamic behavior well. We, for the first time, developed two linear dynamical models that specifically address the feedback structure of a child's desire to achieve a high grade point average (GPA) and the necessary effort that will increase stress between parents and a child. We call the dynamical model as GSES (Goal, Status, Effort & Stress). The two dynamical models incorporate the positive (i.e., achieving a high GPA) and the negative sides (i.e., effort and elevated stress and thus unhappiness) for being gritty or perseverant. Different types of parenting style and a child's characteristics were simulated whether parents and a child are empathetic or stubborn to their expectations and stress (i.e., willing or unwilling to change). Simulations show that when both parents and a child are empathetic to each other's expectation and stress, the most stable situations with minimal stress and effort occur. When a stubborn parent's and a stubborn child were studied together, this resulted in the highest elevation of stress and effort. Stubborn parents and a complying or empathetic child resulted in considerably high stress to a child. Interference from parents may unexpectedly result in a situation in which a child's stress is seriously elevated. The GSES model shows the U-shaped happiness curve (i.e., reciprocal of stress) caused by the increasing and then decreasing goal
