Data were collected from 514 elementary school students from 1st to 6th grade with questionnaires on Parental Behavior, Bullying, and Peer-Victimization. Sixth graders reported the lowest perception of warmth-acceptance, and 1st graders reported the highest perception of rejection-restriction by fathers. Males perceived more parental rejection-restriction. Children perceived more warmth-acceptance from mothers, and they perceived more permissiveness-nonintervention from fathers. Parenting behaviors were significantly related to bullying and victimization. The Bullying/Victimization group reported the lowest parental warmth-acceptance. Both Victimization and Bullying/Victimization groups showed higher parental rejection-restriction than other groups. The Victimization group showed highest paternal permissiveness-nonintervention. Victimization and Bullying/Victimization groups reported higher maternal permissiveness-nonintervention than other groups.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the personal traits of children's characteristics as well as those of mothers' on the children's maladjustment behaviors. The study subjects were 345 preschooler-mother pairs. Results revealed that boys exhibited more maladjustment behaviors than girls, as expected. The results of a three way ANOVA analyses indicated that the multiple interactive factors of the children's temperament, cognitive outcomes, and parenting attitudes significantly affected the children's maladjustment behaviors. This trend was only representative across the sample of boys. In this study, the interaction effects of negative parenting attitudes and the children's lower levels of cognitive development on the children's maladjustment capacity were accentuated among boys with temperamental vulnerability.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of paternal parenting sense of competence, paternal satisfaction, conflict-coping behaviors, and preschooler's emotional regulation on preschooler's social skills. Participants were 85 5- to 6-year-old preschoolers(41 boys, 44 girls) and their fathers. The Social Skill Rating Scale(Suh, 2004), the Parenting Sense of Competence(Shin & Chung, 1998), the Parental Satisfaction Scale(Seo & Lee, 2002), Conflict-coping behaviors(Cho & Kim, 2000) and the Emotional regulation(Kim & Kim, 1999) were used. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis. The major findings were summarized as follows: (1) there were no differences between the boys' and girls' social skills. (2) parental satisfaction and emotional regulation explained social skills - cooperation. (3) conflict-coping behaviors(rationality and request for others) and emotional regulation explained social skills - self-control. (4) emotional regulation explained social skills - assertion. In conclusion, parental satisfaction, conflict-coping behaviors, and preschooler's emotional regulation influence differently according to the subscale of preschooler's social skills.
This study examined relationships between parenting attitudes and young children's injury risk behavior by age and gender. Subjects were 161 3- to 5-year old children and their parents. Instruments were the revised Parenting Attitudes Questionnaire (Reitman et al., 2002) and the Injury Behavior Checklist (Speltz et al., 1990). Data were analyzed by MANOV A. Results were that: 1) Fathers were more permissive to daughters; mothers were more permissive to younger children. 2) Older children had more injury risk behaviors than younger children; boys engaged in more injury risk behaviors than girls. 3) Fathers' authoritarian and mothers' permissive attitudes were positively related to children's injury risk behavior, respectively. Fathers' and mothers' authoritative attitudes were negatively related to children's injury risk behavior.
The purpose of this study is to examine the moderated mediation effects of parenting functioning on the relations between deviant peer's influences and delinquent behaviors in adolescence. To investigate the moderated mediation effects, simple slope test and bootstrapping method based on multiple linear regression(MLR) model were used. This study used data from wave 1-2(2003-2004) of the Korea Youth Panel Survey(KYPS). Results showed that poorer parenting increased the probability that adolescents would affiliated with deviant peers, and more association with deviant peers, in turn, was related to delinquency. There was statistical significant interaction between affiliation with deviant peers and parenting in the model for delinquency. It implied that the relation between deviant peers and delinquency depends on the quality of parenting. Finally, indirect effect of earlier parenting on delinquent behavior through affiliation with deviant peers was moderated by later parenting. These results help clarify the conditions under which exposure to parenting behaviors can buffer the negative effect of deviant best friends on delinquent behaviors in adolescence. Practice and policy implications as well as further research topic were discussed to aid the search for highly effective preventive and treatment interventions.
I devised a parenting training program in order to help female international marriage immigrants address child behavior problems. The target ethnic group for this study was south-east Asians, in particular Filipino mothers. Two group, each containing 7 mothers, were provided with 8 parenting training sessions. The participants, all with Korean husbands, were already trained in Korean traditional parenting value and positive parenting behavior. To test the effect of this program, pre-, post-, and 6-months follow-up tests were conducted. Resulted showed that the parenting training program improved positive parenting behavior, enhanced parenting self-efficacy, and reduced the children's problem behaviors.
This study investigated the relations among a child's emotionality, mother's depression and parenting behaviors in predicting a child's happiness. Participants were 384 children(175 boys, 209 girls) and their mothers. The teachers completed the rating scale to measure a child's happiness. A child's emotionality, mother's depression and parenting behaviors were assessed by a mother-reported questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlations, and hierarchical multiple regressions. Results showed that child's emotionality was negatively related to their happiness. Mother's depression had a negative relation to child's happiness. Mother's warmth-encouragement, overprotection-permission, and reject-nonintervention was significantly related to a child's happiness. Hierarchical regression analysis indicated that the interaction of child's emotionality and mother's reject-nonintervention predicted child's happiness. Child's emotionality, whose mother demonstrated a higher level of reject-nonintervention, was associated significantly with happiness. In addition, the association between mother's depression and child's happiness was mediated by mother's warmth-encouragement and reject-nonintervention. Results suggest the importance of mother's role in the context of intervention planning for child's happiness.

Objectives: This study aimed to review the relationship between parenting daily hassles (PDHs), parenting burden and maltreatment as perceived by Korean and Japanese mothers raising children. In addition, the influence of parenting support, efficiency and satisfaction on child maltreatment were also reviewed. Methods: Data were gathered through self-administered questionnaires given to the mothers using the childcare center in both countries. As for the final procedure, 820 Korea and 700 Japan mothers were statistically processed, and data were analyed through factor analysis and path analysis. Result: The results showed that in both countries, parenting burden caused by PDHs significantly affected physical and mental maltreatment. parenting efficiency and satisfaction as a buffering factor could inhibit mental maltreatment. However, among buffering factors, Korean parenting mothers chose parenting efficiency and Japanese parenting mothers did parenting satisfaction. Conclusions: Based on the findings, it is needed parenting mothers are offered on opportunity to take health education programs and to understand their child's behaviors and learn parent's roles of parenting. In addition, local community support is desired.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of parent - child interaction therapy on parenting skills and children's problem behaviors by meta - analysis and to provide a basis for intervention methods. Methods : This study was conducted from January 2007 to March 2018 and the study was conducted using the parent-child interaction program for children with disabilities. PubMed and CINAHL, EBSCOhost, Science Direct were used to search for studies, and reference searching was also conducted as a secondary search option. A total of 7 studies was selected to meet the selection criteria, and the final 7 studies were assessed by using the Jadad scale. Statistical tests were performed using the R-meta-analysis program. Results : The effect size of parenting skill was large and the size of the effect of parenting stress was moderate. The children's problem behaviors also showed moderate effect sizes and all p-values were statistically significant (p < .0001). Conclusion : This study examined the effects of parent-child interaction therapy on parenting skills, parenting stress, and children's problem behaviors. Future research is needed to establish the basis for intervention for family involvement in pediatric occupational therapy.
The purpose of this study was to examine the main and interaction effects of day-care experiences and maternal parenting behavior on preschoolers' externalizing and internalizing problem behaviors. A total of 248 preschoolers(112 boys and 136 girls) and their mothers participated in this study. Mothers provided information about their children's day-care experiences(i.e., age of entry, hours per week, days per week, and number of day care centers attended by the preschoolers), their parenting behavior, and their children's problem behavior. Data were analyzed using correlations, multiple and hierarchical regressions, and post-hoc analysis suggested by Aiken and West(1991). First, preschoolers who frequently changed day-care centers showed higher levels of aggression. Second, maternal logical explanation, coercive and neglecting parenting behavior significantly influenced preschoolers' externalizing and internalizing problem behavior. Finally, interactions of day-care experiences and maternal parenting behavior were significant in predicting preschoolers' problem behavior. These findings suggest that day-care experiences need to be considered with other family variables in predicting preschoolers' developmental outcomes.
