For the magnetic field analysis or design, it is important to know the behavior of the magnetic field in an interesting space. Magnetic field mapping becomes a useful tool for the study of magnetic field. In this paper, a numerical way for mapping the magnetic field within the cylindrical center volume of magnet is presented, based on the solution of the Laplace's equation in the cylindrical coordinate system. The expression of the magnetic field can be obtained by the magnetic flux density, which measured in the mapped volume. According to the form of the expression, the measurement points are arranged with the parallel cylindrical line (PCL) method. As example, the magnetic flux density generated by an electron cyclotron resonance ion source (ECRIS) magnet and a quadrupole magnet were mapped using the PCL method, respectively. The mapping results show the PCL arrangement method is feasible and convenience to map the magnetic field within a cylindrical center volume generated by the general magnet.
Single-grain (c-normal or c-parallel) and multi-grain YBCO superconductors were prepared by a melt growth process with/without seeding. The magnetic levitation force and trapped magnetic field at liquid N2 temperature (77 K) of the YBCO superconductors were investigated. Samples for the levitation force measurement were zero-field cooled (ZFC) to 77 K, and samples for trapped field measurement were field-cooled (FC) using Nd magnets. As for the magnetic levitation force, the c-normal, single grain sample showed the largest value, whereas the multi-grain sample showed the lowest value. The trapped magnetic field of the c-normal and c-parallel single-grain samples was 4-5 times that of the multi-grain sample. In addition, as the external magnetic field (the number of magnets) increased, the both properties increased proportionally. These results were explained in terms of the orientation dependence of the levitation forces and the magnetic field trapping capability of the YBCO superconductor.
This study used fowl sperm from three White Leghom rooster reared at our laboratory. Semen samples were exposed to the magnetic field strengths of from 650 to 5700 Gauss for one. two, or three days to investigate the influence of magnetic field on the orientation of fowl spermatozoa. Fowl spermatozoa were found to orient with their long axis of heads perpendicular to the magnetic field direction. The fowl spermatozoa were initially influenced when magnetic field intensities were from 650 to 5700 Gauss and the highest values (70.67, 72.49 and 71.79%) were found in the 5700 Gauss treatment at one, two, and three days exposure, respectively. Although percentages of the perpendicular oriented fowl spermatozoa increased along with the enhancement of the magnetic field intensity, the degree of orientation was only significantly higher in the treatments having the magnetic field strength from 1500 to 5700 Gauss than that in the control treatment at all exposure time. In addition, the experimental results also showed that the percentages of all orientational types of fowl spermatozoa (perpendicular category including upward perpendicular and downward perpendicular and parallel type consisting of leftward parallel and rightward parallel) in all treatments tended to be stable during exposure time. From the results of this study. it is suggested that (1) the diamagnetic anisotropy of the inside structural components of fowl spermatozoa induce them to orient perpendicular to the magnetic field direction, (2) the degree of orientation increased according to the enhancement of magnetic field strengths, (3) fowl spermatozoa had not an high sensitivity to the magnetic field, and the level of perpendicular orientation of fowl spermatozoa in this study is nearly similar to that of cattle sperm in the study of Suga et al. (2000).
We find the characterizations of the curvatures of Legendre curves and magnetic curves in Kenmotsu manifolds with C-parallel and C-proper mean curvature vector fields in the tangent and normal bundles. Finally, an illustrative example is presented.
This paper describes the magnetic orientation of bull sperm separated into the head and the flagellum treated by DTT or heparin in a 5,400G static field. Semen samples collected from four bulls (Japanese Black) were mixed to the same sperm density. One percentage triton X-100 was used to extract the plasma membrane. The intact and demembranated sperm suspensions were treated with 20, 200, 2,000 mM DTT, 100, 1,000 or 10,000 units heparin solutions at $4^{\circ}C$ for 6 days. The decondensation of the sperm nuclei treated by DTT or heparin was examined by measuring the head area at 1, 3 and 6 days. After measuring the area, each sample was exposed to a 5,400G static magnetic field generated by Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets for 24 hours at room temperature. Results showed that the sperms were separated into the head and the flagellum through the DTT treatment. Almost of the separated heads showed that their long axis oriented perpendicularly to the magnetic lines of force, and most of the long axis perpendicularly oriented heads showed that their flat plane oriented perpendicularly in a 5,400G magnetic field. Also, the demembranation of the head tended to increase those perpendicular orientations, while those perpendicular orientations of the head declined with the decondensation of the sperm nuclei. These findings suggest that strong magnetic anisotropy for the perpendicular orientation of the long axis and the flat plane of the head occurs in the sperm nuclei in a 5,400G magnetic field. The separated flagellum showed lower parallel orientation, and the separated and demembranated flagellum showed parallel orientation to the magnetic lines of force in this magnetic field. These findings suggest that weak magnetic anisotropy of the parallel orientation of the flagellum occurs in the inside components in a 5,400G field.
We have fabricated YBCO SQUID 1st order gradiometers on $30^{\circ}$STO bicrystal substrate. The pickup coil size was 3.8mm$\times$3.8mm and baseline was 5mm. Three types of SQUID gradiometer were designed and tested for unshielded operation; solid pickup coil, pickup coil consisting of 4 parallel $ 50\mu\textrm{m}$-wide loops, and solid pickup coil with flux dam. We have investigated external magnetic field dependence of the SQUID gradiometers on the magnetic field noiseproperties. Significant increase of low frequency noise with the application of static field has been observed in the case of parallel and flux dam type pickup coil above threshold field of $1.3 \mu$T. Magnetic field noise at 1 Hz measured in the magnetically shielding room was 30, 165, 480 fTcm/sup -1/Hz/sup -1/2/ for solid type and slot type and parallel loops type, respectively.
Magnetization losses of HTS depend strongly on the orientation of external magnetic field because of anisotropy characteristics. For parallel and perpendicular magnetic field, analytical models to calculate the loss are well known but there is no analytical model for magetic fields which are applied to surface of HTS with arbitrary angle. In this paper, magnetization losses are measured for various incidence angles($15^{\circ}$, $35^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$) and compared with parallel and perpendicular loss. As a result, magnetization losses in HTS are strongly affected by perpenducular magnetic field component of external magnetic field.
In this paper, coupling factors are calculated based on numerical analysis in order to assess various non-uniform low-frequency magnetic field exposure situations. Two types of non-uniform magnetic field sources are considered; circular coil and parallel wires with balanced currents. For each magnetic field source, source current values are determined so that reference magnetic field magnitude can be measured at the specified point on the human model. Various exposure situations are investigated by changing parameters such as the distance between source and human model, radius of circular coil, and the gap between parallel wires. For equivalent human models, prolate spheroid model and simplified human model from IEC 62311 standard are used. The calculated coupling factor values are compared with those obtained by 2D uniform disk human model, and the dependence of coupling factor on the choice of equivalent human model is analyzed.
In high field (> 3 T) MR imaging, the magnetic field inhomogeneity in the target object increases due to the nonuniform electro-magnetic characteristics and relatively high Larmor frequency. Especially in the body imaging, the effect causes more serious problems resulting in locally high SAR(Specific Absorption Ratio). In this paper, we propose an optimized parallel-transmission RF coil element structure and show the utility of the coil by FDTD simulations to overcome the unwanted effects. Three types of TX coil elements are tested to maximize the efficiency and their driving patterns(amplitude and phase) optimized to have adequate field homogeneity, proper SAR level, and sufficient field strength. For the proposed coil element of 25 cm ${\times}$ 8 cm loop structure with 12 channels for a 3.0 T body coil, the 73% field non-uniformity without optimization was reduced to about 26% after optimization of driving patterns. The experimental as well as simulation results show the utility of the proposed parallel driving scheme is clinically useful for (ultra) high field MRI.

The spin-orbit interaction has received great attention in the field of spintronics, because of its property and applicability. For instance, the spin-orbit interaction induces spin precession which is the key element of spin transistor proposed by Datta and Das, since frequency of precession can be controlled by electric field. The spin-orbit interaction is classified according to its origin, Dresselhaus and Rashba spin-orbit interaction. In particular, the Rashba spin-orbit interaction is induced by inversion asymmetry of quantum well structure and the slope of conduction band represents the strength of Rashba spin-orbit interaction. The strength of spin-orbit interaction is experimentally obtained from the Shubnikov de Hass (SdH) oscillation. The SdH oscillation is resistance change of channel for perpendicular magnetic field as a result of Zeeman spin splitting of Landau level, quantization of cyclotron motion by applied magnetic field. The frequency of oscillation is different for spin up and down due to the Rashba spin-orbit interaction. Consequently, the SdH oscillation shows the beat patterns. In many research studies, the spin-orbit interaction was treated as a tool for electrical manipulation of spin. On the other hands, it can be considered that the Rashba field, effective magnetic field induced by Rashba effect, may interact with external magnetic field. In order to investigate this issue, we utilized InAs quantum well layer, sandwiched by InGaAs/InAlAs as cladding layer. Then, the SdH oscillation was observed with tilted magnetic field in y-z plane. The y-component (longitudinal term) of applied magnetic field will interact with the Rashba field and the z-component (perpendicular term) will induce the Zeeman effect. As a result, the strength of spin-orbit interaction was increased (decreased), when applied magnetic field is parallel (anti-parallel) to the Rashba field. We found a possibility to control the spin precession with magnetic field.
