A simplified single degree of freedom analog with mass-spring-dashpot is proposed in this study. The simplified analog can describe the dynamic behavior of a rigid circular footings whose contact pressures are parabolic. The analog proposed in this study shows remarkable agreement when compared with the elastic half-space theory the analog is also compared with vertical vibration test results of model concrete footings. For the vibration experiments, 11 circular footings with different mass ratio are constructed. The elastic half-space is represented by compacted sand layer. A constant force excitation vibrator is used for the dynamic loading. The frequency range for vibration tests is 30 to 100 Hz. From the dynamic experiments, it is found that the measured resonant frequencies agree very well with the analog results, however, the ratio of theoretical and measured resonant amplitudes vary between 0.5 and 1.7. It is also found that, when the dynamic force is increased, the resonant frequency is decreased slightly and the resonant amplitude is increased slightly.

In this study, an analytical studies were carried out for the buoyancy preflexion method to improve structural performance of concrete floating structures. The buoyancy preflexion means that the preflexion effects were induced to the floating structure due to the difference in buoyancy between the pontoon modules composing the floating structures. In order to verify the buoyancy preflexion effects, an analytical studies were carried out for the floating structures. The size and dimensions of FE model were determined through the structural design process. The parameter of this analytical study was length ratios of central module part, which induces buoyancy preflexion effects, to the total length. The analysis results were pre-compression on the bottom concrete slab and displacement of freeboard due to buoyancy preflexion effects. These results were processed according to the loading step, buoyancy preflexion loads on the bottom and live loads on the topside. Then, the buoyancy preflexion effects on structural performance was analyzed. As the results of this study, it was found that the buoyancy preflexion significantly influence on structural performance of floating structures. According to the length ratio, the buoyancy preflexion effects have a tendency of parabolic form and maximized at the length ratio of 40~60%. The buoyancy preflexion method is simple in principle and easy in application. Also, it can effectively induce pre-compression on the bottom concrete slab. Therefore, it can be concluded that the buoyancy preflexion method contribute to the improvement of structural performance and decreasing of the cross-sectional depth of floating structures.
The CCD photometric observations of W UMa-type eclipsing binary AB And were made from September 1994 to October 1996. New four primary minimum times were obtained from these observations. The analysis of times of minimum light for AB And confirms other previous studies that the orbital period of AB And have been changing as a form of sinusoidal variation. In this paper, we calculated the new orbital elements with linear and nonlinear quadratic term, and the best fit equation is derived with the assumption that the period variation of AB And changes sinusoidal pattern. From the sinusoidal term of this orbital element, we calculate period variation as 92 years with amplitude of $0.^{d}059$. However this result considering only sinusoidal term, was not satisfied with our recent observations. Thus, by assuming another parabolic period variation with the sinusoidal pattern, we derived the best fit orbital elements. From the quadratic coefficient of this orbital elements, we calculated the secular variation of 0.73 seconds, and from the sinusoidal term, the period variation turned out to be 62.9 years with amplitude of $0.^{d}024$. If we assume only the sinusoidal period variation of AB And, the period has to be decreased within 10 years. However if we consider quadratic term with the sinusoidal period variation of the light elements, the period is expected to be increased. Therefore long-term observations of this binary system are required to confirm this issue.
New twenty 2-(n-octyl)-3-(n-propyl)isothiourea derivatives(S) were synthesized which is modified from the insecticidal Buprofezine (Applaud) in the selective insecticidal activities in-vitro against Diamond-Back moth (Plutella Xylostella Linnaeus). The structure activity relationships(SAR) between the insecticidal activity$(pI_{50})$ and a various physicochemical parameters of the substituent(Z) of S were analyzed by the multiple regression technique. The activities would depend largely on the MR, ${\pi}$ and $L_1$ parameters. The SAR was rationalized by parabolic function of MR, ${\pi}$ and $L_1$ constant, where the optimal values of the constants were $L_1=5.22{{\AA}}$, $MR=15.70\;Cm^3/mol$ and ${\pi}=1.60$, respectively. The steric effects play an important role in determining insecticidal activity. The SAR suggest that the S derivatives having a substituents with a small breadth and an appropriate length as Z group showed potent activity. From the results, the iso-propyl group(Z) substituent (5) with three carbon atom was the most effective compound.
If an active displacement occurs on a wall with finite size, the ground behind the wall forms shapes of 3-dimensional wedges and 3-dimensional active earth pressure are applied on the wall. In the previous studies, shapes of 3-dimensional wedges were measured and the resultant of 3-dimensional active earth pressure has been calculated. In this study, the magnitude and the distribution of 3-dimensional active earth pressure depending on the size of a rectangular wall, which was defined by the aspect ratio (h/w), that is, the ratio between the height and the width of wall, were measured and compared with previous 3-dimensional models. The result shows that, the horizontal displacement (S) of the wall is approx 0.12% of the height of wall (h). The resultant 3-dimensional active earth pressure is similar to that of Karstedt (1982). The distributions of earth pressures on the wall are parabolic shape. The peak earth pressure was measured at the 0.5~0.55 depth from the ground surface. The reduction factor of 3-dimensional active earth pressure against the 2-dimensional earth pressure (${\alpha}$) depending the aspect ratio (h/w) is presented by the diagram.
We present photometric results of the δ Sct star V1162 Ori, which is extensively monitored for a total of 49 nights from mid-December 2014 to early-March 2015. The observations are made with three KMTNet (Korea Microlensing Telescope Network) 1.6 m telescopes installed in Chile, South Africa, and Australia. Multiple frequency analysis is applied to the data and resulted in clear detection of seven frequencies without an alias problem: five known frequencies and two new ones with small amplitudes of 1.2-1.7 mmag. The amplitudes of all but one frequency are significantly different from previous results, confirming the existence of long-term amplitude changes. We examine the variations in pulsation timings of V1162 Ori for about 30 years by using the times of maximum light obtained from our data and collected from the literatures. The O − C (Observed minus Calculated) timing diagram shows a combination of a downward parabolic variation with a period decreasing rate of (1/P)dP/dt = −4.22 × 10−6 year−1 and a cyclic change with a period of about 2780 days. The most probable explanation for this cyclic variation is the light-travel-time effect caused by an unknown binary companion, which has a minimum mass of 0.69 M⊙. V1162 Ori is the first δ Sct-type pulsating star of which the observed fast period decrease can be interpreted as an evolutionary effect of a pre-main sequence star, considering its membership of the Orion OB 1c association.
The theoretical study is developed for predicting the thermal expansion changes of composites which include complex inclusion, which is used three-dimensional ellipsoid model ($a_1>a_2>a_3$), which has two aspect ratios (the primary aspect ratio, $\rho_{\alpha}=a_1/a_3$ and the secondary aspect ratio, $\rho_{\beta}=a_1/a_2$). We can predict the feature of general thermal expansion factors by theoretical approach of matrix with aligned ellipsoidal inclusion using the Eshelby's equivalent tensor. The coefficients of longitudinal linear thermal expansion ${\alpha}_{11}$ decrease to those of inclusions, ${\alpha}_f$, as both aspect ratios increase. The coefficients of transverse linear thermal expansion of composites ${\alpha}_{33}$ initially increase and show the parabolic corves with maximum values, as the concentrations of filler increase. The coefficient of thermal expansion, ${\alpha}_{22}$ in the transverse direction decreases, as $\rho_{\alpha}$ increases, however, ${\alpha}_{22}$ increases as $\rho_{\beta}$ increases. The coefficient of linear thermal expansion of composites, ${\alpha}_{33}$ in the normal direction increases, as $\rho_{\alpha}$ increases, while ${\alpha}_{33}$ decreases as $\rho_{\beta}$ increases.
The relationships between the quantitative structure of benzotriazoles and their post-emergence growth inhibiting activity$(pI_{50})$ against Oryzae sativa L. and Echinochloa crus-galli were investigated using a generalized quantitative structure activity relationships (QSAR). According to the QSAR analysis, the free radical parameter $(E_R)$ is a very important factor and the growth inhibiting activity values showed parabolic relation to $E_R$ parameter of para-substituents(X). The activity of (3) was superior to those of (4) and (3b) is selected as the most highly effective compound. The optimal values of $E_R$ parameter of the growth inhibiting activity aganist E.crus-galli are $E_R(3)=0.52\;and\;E_R(4)=0.15$, respectively. From the result of molecular design, the substituents(X) of electron withdrawing properties and $E_R$ parameter of optimal value(0.52) were most desirable for high activity of the benzotriazoles. And in view of this, benzotriazoles may also be effective in blocking the photosynthetic electron transfer.
An intensive analysis of 148 timings of V700 Cyg was performed, including our new timings and 59 timings calculated from the super wide angle search for planets (SWASP) observations, and the dynamical evidence of the W UMa W subtype binary was examined. It was found that the orbital period of the system has varied over approximately $66^y$ in two complicated cyclical components superposed on a weak upward parabolic path. The orbital period secularly increased at a rate of $+8.7({\pm}3.4){\times}10^{-9}$ day/year, which is one order of magnitude lower than those obtained by previous investigators. The small secular period increase is interpreted as a combination of both angular momentum loss (due to magnetic braking) and mass-transfer from the less massive component to the more massive component. One cyclical component had a $20.^y3$ period with an amplitude of $0.^d0037$, and the other had a $62.^y8$ period with an amplitude of $0.^d0258$. The components had an approximate 1:3 relation between their periods and a 1:7 ratio between their amplitudes. Two plausible mechanisms (i.e., the light-time effects [LTEs] caused by the presence of additional bodies and the Applegate model) were considered as possible explanations for the cyclical components. Based on the LTE interpretation, the minimum masses of 0.29 $M_{\odot}$ for the shorter period and 0.50 $M_{\odot}$ for the longer one were calculated. The total light contributions were within 5%, which was in agreement with the 3% third-light obtained from the light curve synthesis performed by Yang & Dai (2009). The Applegate model parameters show that the root mean square luminosity variations (relative to the luminosities of the eclipsing components) are 3 times smaller than the nominal value (${\Delta}L/L_{p,s}{\approx}0.1$), indicating that the variations are hardly detectable from the light curves. Presently, the LTE interpretation (due to the third and fourth stars) is preferred as the possible cause of the two cycling period changes. A possible evolutionary implication for the V700 Cyg system is discussed.

The simplified plate theory is presented for static and free vibration analysis of power-law(P) and sigmoid(S) Functionally Graded Materials(FGM) plates. This theory considers the parabolic distribution of the transverse shear stress, and satisfies the condition that requires the transverse shear stress to be zero on the upper and lower surfaces of the plate, without the shear correction factor. The simplified plate theory uses only four unknown variables and shares strong similarities with classical plate theory(CPT) in many aspects such as stress-resultant expressions, equation of motion and boundary conditions. The material properties of the plate are assumed to vary according to the power-law and sigmoid distributions of the volume fractions of the constituents. The Hamilton's principle is used to derive the equations of motion and Winkler-Pasternak elastic foundation model is employed. The results of static and dynamic responses for a simply supported FGM plate are calculated and a comparative analysis is carried out. The results of the comparative analysis with the solutions of references show relevant and accurate results for static and free vibration problems of FGM plates. Analytical solutions for the static and free vibration problems are presented so as to reveal the effects of the power law index, elastic foundation parameter, and side-to-thickness ratio.
