The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between foreign investment and carbon emissions in the Korean electricity sector, the causal relationship between the foreign investment invested in the electric power sector in the 16 regional regions and the carbon emissions in the region, The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of foreign investment on these sectors and the carbon footprint of these sectors using Panel Random Effect Analysis, Panel VAR and OLS models. A panel analysis of foreign investment and regional carbon emissions showed that there was a causal relationship. Based on this analysis, OLS analysis showed that 7 out of 16 metropolitan areas were foreign investment And carbon emissions were significant. In the remaining six regions except Gwangju, there was a causal relationship between foreign investment in the local power sector and the reduction of carbon emissions. After categorizing the electric power industry by device, process, purpose and number of employees, causality also appeared in relation to foreign investment in these sectors and their carbon emissions. Through this study, the authors suggest that foreign investment can be a way to solve not only the financial burden of carbon emission problem, but also the development of national economy and industry through the inflow of capital and advanced new technology.
Precast concrete(P.C.) large panel structures have usually weaker stiffness at joints than that of monolithic in-situ reinforced concrete structures. But structural designers do not in general take into account this characteristics of P.C. large panel structures and use the same analytical models as for the monolithic structure. Therefore, the results of analysis obtained by using these models may be quite different from those actually occurring in real P.C. structure. In this study, the change in force and stress distribution and deflections of structure caused by applying lower shear stiffness at vertical joints are investigated through trying several finite element modeling schemes specific for P.C. structures, Finally, for engineers in practice, a simplified model, which takes account of the effect of lower shear stiffness at vertical joints, is proposed with the understanding on possible amount of errors.
This paper is focused on the buckling and post buckling behaviour of rectangular corrugated board panels simply supported and subjected to compression load. The aim of the work is to understand the failure mechanism of investigated structure in order to quantify the effect of design parameters on the strength of a panel of given geometry. Two numerical models were developed adopting the finite element method. In the first one the corrugated board is represented by means of shell elements adopting an equivalent material, in the second the local structure is described in full detail modelling both straight and corrugated layers by means of shell elements and representing the connection between layers by special interface elements. The model correctness was checked by the comparison between out of plane central displacement predicted by the models and the experimental values found in literature. For the same case the effect of panel planarity error was evaluated. Finally a parametric analysis to investigate the effect of design parameters was carried out.
A numerical study is carried out to assess the dynamic response and damage level of one- and two-way reinforced concrete (RC) panels subjected to explosive loads by using finite element LS-DYNA software. The precision of the numerical models is validated with the previous experimental test. The calibrated models are used to conduct a series of parametric studies to evaluate the effects of panel wall dimensions, concrete strength, and steel reinforcement ratio on the blast-resistant capacity of the panel under various magnitudes of blast load. The results are used to develop pressure-impulse (P-I) diagrams corresponding to the damage levels defined according to UFC-3-340-02 manual. Empirical equations are proposed to easily construct the P-I diagrams of RC panels that can be efficiently used to assess its safety level against blast loads.

An active-matrix LCD using thin film transistors (TFTs)has been widely recognized as having potential for high-quality color flat-panel displays. Pixel-Design Array Simulation Tool (PDAST) was used to profoundly understand the gate signal distortion and pixel charging capability, which are the most critical limiting factors for high-quality TFT-LCDs. Since PDAST can simulate the gate data and pixel voltages of a certain pixel on TFT array at any time and at any location on an array, the effect of the new set of capacitance models on the pixel operations can be effectively analyzed, The set of models which is adopted from VLSI interconnections calculate more precise capacitance. The information obtained from this study could be utilized to design the larger area and finer image quality panel.

The purpose of this study is to outline the analysis procedure for evaluating the performance of moment resisting steel frames. For this purpose, three ordinary moment resisting frames are designed in compliance to UBC 1994. The evaluation is performed by nonlinear static procedures using two analytical models. Only one analytical model using panel element can reflect the panel zone deformation explicitly. The limit values in FEMA 273 are used as guidelines of predicted demand parameters by which the performance of OMRFs may be assessed.
The purpose of this paper is to show the empirical analysis way for measuring the seaport efficiency by using the previous radial model and the newly modified non-radial models( panel additive model, panel RAM model, and panel SBM model)with Spearman rank order correlation coefficient(SROCC) for 20 Korean ports during 11 years(1997-2007) for 1 inputs(port investment amount) and 4 outputs(Number of Ship Calls, Port Revenue, Customer Satisfaction Score for Port Service and Container Cargo Throughput). The main empirical results of this paper are as follows. First, consistency ratio of SROCC in terms of efficiency scores between radial and panel Additive model was over about 76% and overall consistency ratio was about 71.6%. Second, an efficiency of panel RAM model was higher than that of radial model with similarity. However, panel SBM model shows the very similar efficiency scores with panel radial model. Third, the slack size of radial model is smaller compared to non-radial model. Models' ranking orders in terms of efficiency scores, number of efficient ports are panel RAM model, panel SBM model, and radial model. The order from the minimum efficiency scores was the same order like just before. The policy implication to the Korean seaports and planner is that Korean seaports should introduce the new methods like non-radial models(panel additive model, panel RAM model, and panel SBM model) for measuring the port performance.
Rehabilitation and retrofitting of structures designed in accordance to standard design codes is an essential practice in structural engineering and design. For steel structures, one of the challenges is to strengthen the panel zone as well as its analysis in moment-resisting frames. In this research, investigations were undertaken to analyze the influence of the panel zone in the response of structural frames through a computational approach using ETABS software. Moment-resisting frames of six stories were studied in supposition of real panel zone, different values of rigid zone factor, different thickness of double plates, and both double plates and rigid zone factor together. The frames were analyzed, designed and validated in accordance to Iranian steel building code. The results of drift values for six stories building models were plotted. After verifying and comparing the results, the findings showed that the rigidity lead to reduction in drifts of frames and also as a result, lower rigidity will be used for high rise building and higher rigidity will be used for low rise building. In frames with story drifts more than the permitted rate, where the frames are considered as the weaker panel zone area, the story drifts can be limited by strengthening the panel zone with double plates. It should be noted that higher thickness of double plates and higher rigidity of panel zone will result in enhancement of the non-linear deformation rates in beam elements. The resulting deformations of the panel zone due to this modification can have significant influence on the elastic and inelastic behavior of the frames.

In this paper, we empirically analyzed whether carbon leakage really happened in EU by comparing before and after the period of EU ETS. We regarded foreign direct investment outflows as indicator of carbon leakage and analyzed panel regression between production cost including environment cost and this FDI variable. Also we consider foreign market potential to analyze market oriented FDI. According to this analysis, carbon leakage was observed in some models for manufacturing industry. However carbon leakage did not prove consistently in a variety of models and it is hard to speak carbon leakage was happened in EU ETS. Notwithstanding relatively short time series of data, in the view of the fact that carbon leakage was tested in some models, Korea also should keep in mind the possibility of carbon leakage and design emission trading scheme.
