A Study on The Performance of ATM Cell Transmission over Wireless Link (무선채널환경에서 ATM데이터의 전송성능분석 및 개선연구)

  • While ATM technology results in considerable advantages(less overhead, increased throughput) in an optical networks, It causes severe problems(single and burst error) when ATM is transmitted over an error-prone channel, such as wireless link. In this paper we describe our investigation on ATM over wireless network. we first evaluate performance of ATM data transmission over a wireless link. Secondly we analyze performance improvements of Forward Error Correction(FEC) or ARQ(Automatic Repeat reQuest) scheme applied to wireless ATM link and provide performance comparison between FEC and ARQ through the use of packet error rate and throughput. Lastly we suggest error control architecture to overcome the impact of the bit error characteristics of a wireless link on wireless ATM network.

  • Mobile healthcare is a fusion of information technology and biotechnology and is a new type of health management service to keep people's health at anytime and anywhere without regard to time and space. The WBAN(Wireless Body Area Network) technology that collects bio signals and the data analysis and monitoring technology using mobile devices are essential for serving mobile healthcare. WBAN consisting of users with mobile devices meet another WBAN during movement, WBANs transmit data to the other media. Because of WBAN conflict, several nodes transmit data in same time slot so a collision will occur, resulting in the data transmission being failed and need more energy for re-transmission. In this thesis, we proposed a MAC protocol for WBAN with mobility to solve these problems. First, we proposed a superframe structure for WBAN. The proposed superframe consists of a TDMA(Time Division Muliple Access) based contention access phase with which a node can transmit data in its own time slot and a contention phase using CSMA/CA algorithm. Second, we proposed a network merging algorithm for conflicting WBAN based on the proposed MAC protocol. When a WBAN with mobility conflicts with other WBAN, data frame collision is reduced through network reestablishment. Simulations are performed using a Castalia based on the OMNeT++ network simulation framework to estimate the performance of the proposed superframe and algorithms. We estimated the performance of WBAN based on the proposed MAC protocol by comparing the performance of the WBAN based on IEEE 802.15.6. Performance evaluation results show that the packet transmission success rate and energy efficiency are improved by reducing the probability of collision using the proposed MAC protocol.

  • 6LoWPAN (IPv6 over Low Power Wireless Sensor Network) standardized by IETF does not support the mobility of wireless sensor nodes. Since the wireless sensor node, subject to a lot of constraints in the CPU, memory, a battery is not easy to apply to existing protocols such as Mobile IPv6. In this paper, we propose a novel mobility management architecture and methods to work with 6LoWPAN based on the analysis on FPMIPv6 (Fast PMIPv6) the host is not a handover procedure performed in order to support the mobility of such sensor nodes. It was suggested the use of a dispatch code pattern that is not currently used in 6LoWPAN for inter-working, MAG and MAC, MAC in order to reduce packet loss caused as the authentication delay in the handover process to minimize the power consumption of a sensor node that is caused by the re-transmission the new concept of temporary guarantee (temporary guarantee) and trust relationships (trust relationship) between AAA and introduced.

A Handover Method Based on the Position Information of a Mobile Terminal (이동 단말기의 위치 정보를 이용한 핸드오버 방법)

  • It is widely accepted that the coverage with high user densities in mobile multimedia environments can only be achieved with small cell such as micro- and pico-cell. The smaller cell size causes frequent handovers between cells and a decrease in the permissible handover processing delay. This may result in the handover failure, in addition to the loss of some packets during the handover. In these cases, re-transmission is needed in order to compensate errors, which triggers a rapid degradation of throughput. In this paper, we propose a new handover scheme in the next generation mobile communication systems, in which the handover setup process is done in advance before a handover request by predicting the handover cell based on mobile terminal's current position and moving direction. Simulation is focused on the handover failure rate and packet loss rate. The simulation results show that our proposed method provides a better performance than the conventional method.

  • With the development of smart on-devices and communication technology, demand for non-stop services is increasing. Therefore, the high availability for continuously providing services in the event of system failure has been spotlighted. Meanwhile, because most internet-based services are provided by using TCP, an efficient TCP session recovery technique for providing non-stop services is required. However, the existing TCP session recovery techniques are inefficient because it has a high recovery cost or does not support failover operation, To solve these problems, in this paper, we propose a TCP session recovery technique for high availability in smart on-devices. For this, we first recover the TCP session without re-establish the TCP session by correcting a sequence number and a acknowledgment number. Second, we synchronize the TCP session recovery data between the master and the server, and then we operate the failover operation when master server fails. Finally, we provide the non-stop service to peer by using the virtual IP number and the transmission of GARP (Gratuitous ARP) packet.

  • The National Competency Standards (NCS) was designed to implement a competence-based society and solve the problem of inconsistency between the industrial field and education, training, and certification system. This study designed and developed the Korean NCS core vocational competence system, in accordance with the NCS, as an infrastructure to solve fundamental problems such as re-education and the social costs that are incurred in the workplace. Further, this study designed and developed standard indicators to evaluate the technical performance of the system for the global advancement of the Korean NCS core vocational competence system. The NCS core vocational competence system has been developed as an appropriate response type for multiple devices such as computers, tablet PCs, and cellular phones. For the global advancement of the Korean NCS core vocational competence system, this study designed and developed 10 performance evaluation indicators in accordance with 10 global standards, such as linkage-target operating system, interface protocol, packet format, encryption, class component, simultaneous access number, supervisor-to-testtaker response speed, server-to-admin response speed, auto-recovery speed for test answers, and real-time answer transmission speed.

On Alternative Path Setup for Directional Antenna Based Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (방향성 안테나에 기반을 둔 이동 애드 혹 네트워크에서의 대체 경로 설정)

  • Mobile ad hoc networks suffer from the re-construction of the routing path as a node on the path moves away and/or fails. In this paper we propose a multipath routing scheme, designed for the network based on the directional antennas, in which a new path is quickly recovered by do-touring to an alternative neighbor called braid. Simulations are conducted in random networks with 50 nodes uniformly deployed in a $1,000m{\times}1,000M$ area where, all nodes have a transmission range of 250m and the average node moving speed varies from 0 to 10m/s. The proposed approach under the ideal antenna with K(>1) directional sectors achieves better results compared with the case of K=1, the omnidirectional antenna model, in terms of the metrics: packet delivery ratio and average number of hops for the routing paths. As further study, a scheme to alleviate the heavy amount of latency accompanied by the rout setup is urgently required.

Multiplexing of UHDTV Based on MPEG-2 TS (MPEG-2 TS 기반의 UHDTV 다중화)

  • In this paper, a method of MPEG-2 Transport Stream (TS) multiplexing for Ultra HDTV (UHDTV) and its design and implementation as a SW tool is described. In practice, UHD video may be divided into several HD videos and each video is encoded in parallel. Therefore, it is necessary to synchronize and multiplex multiple bitstreams encoding each HD video for transmitting and storing UHD video. In this paper, it is assumed that 4 HD videos partitioning a UHD spatially are encoded as H.264/AVC and two 5.0 channel audios are encoded by AC-3. Therefore, 4 H.264/AVC elementary streams (ESs) and 2 AC-3 ESs is mainly considered in the TS multiplexing of UHD. For the carriage of H.264/AVC and AC-3 over MPEG-2 TS, PES packetization and TS multiplexing are designed and implemented based on the extended specification of the MPEG-2 Systems and ATSC (Digital audio compressed standard), respectively. The implemented UHD TS multiplexing tool emulates real time HW operation in the time unit corresponding to the duration of one TS packet transmission in a given TS rate. In particular, in order to satisfy the timing model, the buffers defined in the TS System Target Decoder (T-STD) are monitored and their statuses are considered in the scheduling of TS multiplexing. For UHD multiplexing, two kinds of multiplexing structures, which are UHD re-multiplexing and UHD program multiplexing, are implemented and their strength and weakness are investigated. The developed UHD TS multiplexing tool is tested and verified in terms of the syntax and semantics conformance and functionalities by using a commercial analyzer and real-time presentation tools.

Development of JPEG2000 Viewer for Mobile Image System (이동형 의료영상 장치를 위한 JPEG2000 영상 뷰어 개발)

  • Currently, as a consequence of PACS (Picture Archiving Communication System) implementation many hospitals are replacing conventional film-type interpretations of diagnostic medical images with new digital-format interpretations that can also be saved, and retrieve However, the big limitation in PACS is considered to be the lack of mobility. The purpose of this study is to determine the optimal communication packet size. This was done by considering the terms occurred in the wireless communication. After encoding medical image using JPGE2000 image compression method, This method embodied auto-error correction technique preventing the loss of packets occurred during wireless communication. A PC class server, with capabilities to load, collect data, save images, and connect with other network, was installed. Image data were compressed using JPEG2000 algorithm which supports the capability of high energy density and compression ratio, to communicate through a wireless network. Image data were also transmitted in block units coeded by JPEG2000 to prevent the loss of the packets in a wireless network. When JPGE2000 image data were decoded in a PUA (Personal Digital Assistant), it was instantaneous for a MR (Magnetic Resonance) head image of 256${\times}$256 pixels, while it took approximately 5 seconds to decode a CR (Computed Radiography) chest image of 800${\times}$790 pixels. In the transmission of the image data using a CDMA 1X module (Code-Division Multiple Access 1st Generation), 256 byte/sec was considered a stable transmission rate, but packets were lost in the intervals at the transmission rate of 1Kbyte/sec. However, even with a transmission rate above 1 Kbyte/sec, packets were not lost in wireless LAN. Current PACS are not compatible with wireless networks. because it does not have an interface between wired and wireless. Thus, the mobile JPEG2000 image viewing system was developed in order to complement mobility-a limitation in PACS. Moreover, the weak-connections of the wireless network was enhanced by re-transmitting image data within a limitations The results of this study are expected to play an interface role between the current wired-networks PACS and the mobile devices.
