Amid the booming research on new and renewable energy, the photovoltaic(PV) industry has been growing around the PV advanced countries such as Japan, Germany, Europe and USA. In recent years, China became a strong performer in the world PV market share, increasing solar cell production rapidly. Both world solar cell and module production and installation rose steadily in 2007 like recent bumper years. In 2007, the PV industry produced 4.28GW and the installations reached a record high of 2.83GW, representing growth of 60percent over the previous year.
As global warming due to burning fossil fuels and natural resource depletion issues have emerged, the development of renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics (PV) has been brought to recent interest. Amongst the vast efforts to harvest and convert solar energy into electricity, the module integrated converters (MIC) has become a worthy topic of research for grid-connected photovoltaic systems. Due to the required high-boosting qualities, only a restricted amount of DC/DC converter topologies can be applied to MICs. This paper investigates the possibility of a tapped-inductor boost converter as a candidate for PV MICs. A dual-inductor interleaving scheme operating slightly above the boundary of the two conduction modes (BCM) is suggested for reduction of input current ripple and minimization of component stress. A digital controller is used for implementation, assuring maximum power tracking and transfer while providing sufficient computational space for other grid connectivity applications, etc. For verification, a 200W converter is designed and simulated via computer software including component losses. High efficiency over a wide power range proves the feasibility of the proposed PV MIC system.

In this paper, a machine learning model by using a regression algorithm is proposed to estimate the power generation performance of the BIPV system. The physical model formula for estimating the generation performance and the proposed model were compared and analyzed. For the physical model formula, simple efficiency model, temperature correction model, and regressive physics model for changing an irradiance were used. As a result, when comparing the regressive physics model for changing an irradiance and the proposed model with the actual generation measured data, the respective RMSE values are 0.1497 kW, 0.0451 kW and the accuracy values are 86.44%, and 96.56%. Therefore, the proposed model implemented in this experiment can be useful in estimating power generation.

The photovoltaic(PV) industry has been growing around the PV advanced countries such as Japan, Germany, Europe and USA. In recent years, China became a strong performer in the world PV market share, increasing solar cell production rapidly The global photovoltaic (PV) market grew by over 40% in 2007, with approximately 2.3GW of newly installed capacity. The global cumulative installed capacity has reached 9GW. The cumulative installed power of PV system in Korea tremendously increased to 74.7MW at the end of 2007. Up to Sep. 2008 The cumulative installed power of PV system in Korea is approximately 377MW. The value chain of photovoltaic in Korea is creating actively. Thus Korea is predicted to see 800MW of modules installed in 2010. Korea's renewable energy is also targeting to take 5% of the total energy consumption by 2011.

On BIPV systems, especially roof-top PV systems, the power generation is easier to be reduced due to the shades of facilities nearby, or roof itself. To secure profitability of roof-top PV systems, the optimal design of solar arrays through the precise shading analysis is an important item of design considerations. In this paper, an optimization system for array design of roof-top PVs is to be developed using three-dimensional Geospatial Information System(GIS). The profitability of income and expense is considered through the shading analysis of entire roofs. By applying the system to project for validation, the adequacy and the improvement of NPV of the system were verified compared to expert's design. The system has significance by reason that PV modules are placed through rules established with expert knowledge and geometric rules were applied to reflect the constructability and maintainability.

Increasing energy prices and growing concerns about global warming address the need to improve energy self-sufficiency in many industrial and municipal sectors. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are representative of energy-consuming facilities in Korea, accounting for 5% of national energy consumption. We present renewable energy technologies and energy self-sufficiency scenarios in a municipal WWTP ($30,000m^3d^{-1}$) located in Yongin, South Korea. By employing photovoltaics (PV, 135 kW), small hydropower turbine (10 kW), and thermal energy from treated effluent (25 RT: refrigeration ton) within the WWTP, a total of 142 tonne of oil equivalent (toe) of energy was estimated to be generated, accounting for $365ton\;CO_2\;yr^{-1}$ of greenhouse gas emission reduction. Core renewable technologies under consideration include 1) hybrid solar PV system consisting of fixed PV, dual-axis PV, and building integrated PV, 2) low-head small hydropower plant specifically designed for treated effluent, 3) effluent heat recovery system for heating and air conditioning. In addition to these core technologies, smart operation and management scheme will be presented for enhancing overall energy savings and distribution within the WWTP.
Lightweight and flexible photovoltaic (PV) modules are attractive for building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) applications because of their easy construction and applicability. In this study, we fabricated lightweight and flexible c-Si PV modules using ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) front cover and shingled design string cells. The ETFE front cover instead of glass made the PV modules lighter in weight, and the shingled design string cells increased the flexibility. Finally, we fabricated a PV module with a conversion power of 240.08 W at an area of 1.25 m2 and weighed only 2 kg/m2. Moreover, to check the PV module's flexibility, we conducted a bending test. The difference of conversion power between the modules before and after bending shown was only 1.7 W, which showed a power reduction rate of about 0.7%.

The energy demand in the world is expected to exceed 740 million TJ by 2040 and our dependence on fossil fuels needs to be switched to sustainable and renewable energy sources like solar energy. Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) is one of the best approaches to extracting solar energy. There are more than 200 BIPV products in the market currently but when it comes to integrating these products into the technical aspects such as buildings' structural integrity, thermal, daylight retainment and aesthetic prospects to be considered. The share of BIPV integration potential of different building types in the world of residential, agricultural, industrial, commercial and other buildings account for 66%, 4.8%, 8.1%, 19.9%, and 1.2% accordingly. Many solar technologies developed to achieve architectural requirements, but the main problem is the trade-off between efficiency and aesthetic appeal, which is less than 10% in coloured and transparent solar modules. This paper discusses the different applications of solar photovoltaics (PV) in building architecture, technical requirements, and different module technologies. The article provides a comprehensive guide for researchers and designers working on the development of BIPV integrations.
