Three isocyanate groups of IP-$75^{(R)}$ and one hydroxyl group of various amino alcohols were applied for preparing cationic type water-borne polyurthane (PU) having ionic center onto flexible side chains. Average particle size, dispersion stability, viscosity, contact angle, surface energy, glass transition temperature ($T_g$), and adhesion strength of prepared water-borne PUs were measured and analyzed with different NCO/OH mol ratios, ionomers, and neutralizing agents. It was characterized that the prepared PU has a smaller particle size and a better dispersion stability than the conventional cationic water-borne PU containing ionic centers onto main chains.

The purpose of this study was to investigate and to compare the performances of silicone laminated materials sold for swimming cap in market, to get the basic data for product development. We selected 4 specimens and tested their air permeability, waterproofness and breathability. We also tested the physical and mechanical properties of the specimens using KES system. Silicone-laminated material was not bursted on high hydraulic pressure since silicone membrane gave waterproofness while PU/Polyester substrate gave elasticity. It didn't have air permeability and breathability at all. Any toxic materials such as Formaldehyde, Deldrin, PCP, Amin, TDBPP were not detected in silicone-laminated material and other materials. Silicone-laminated material had higher stretchability with the low force but it had lower elastic recovery and shape stability comparing to PU laminated material. It had lower flexibility than PU laminated material. It had lower unrecoverable amount in shearing direction. Friction coefficient was higher in silicone-laminated material than PU laminated material due to its surface stickiness. It was compressed easily and its compression resiliency was higher with compared to PU laminated material.
Two methods, IDMS (Isotope Dilution Mass Spectrometry) and controlled potential coulometry are compared by the determination of Pu for the NBL, CRM No.122, $PuO_2$. The recovery of Pu was found to be $1.002176{\pm}0.000452$ within the relative standard deviation of 0.045% (95% conf. level) although a small size of sample ($0.9{\mu}g$-Pu) was used in IDMS. The recovery using controlled potential coulometry were obtained in the range of 0.9923~0.9960. The analytical results of IDMS and controlled potential coulometry were good agreement within 0.6~1%. Base on these experiment results, The plutonium in HANARO irradiated fuel rod that separated portion of top, middle, and bottom were determined. The measured values of Pu are 1.155 mg, 2.483 mg and 1.920 mg in one gram of sample(fuel+clad), respectively.
Polyurethanes containing poly(dimethyl siloxane) (PDMS) unit, PU-Si, were synthesized and their thermal and shape memory properties were investigated. Various amounts of PDMS units were incorporated via a solution polymerization method using mixed diols of poly(tetramethylene ether glycol) (PTMEG) and PDMS-diol as the soft segment (SS) and methylene diphenyl diisocyanate and 1,4-butanediol as the hard segment (HS). Two series of PU-Si samples with an HS content of 23% or 32% were prepared and analyzed. For PU-Si with an HS content of 23%, both the cold crystallization temperature ($T_{cc}$) and melt crystallization temperature of the SS domain moved higher temperature with increasing PDMS content, while the melting temperature ($T_m$) of the SS domain remained unaffected. The increase in HS content from 23% to 32% resulted in the increased $T_m$ and disappearance of $T_{cc}$. The shape recovery of PU-Si flim with an HS content of 32% increased while its shape retention decreased as PDMS content increased.

Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer(PU-TPE) and energetic thermoplastic polyurethane Elastomer(E-PU-TPE) were prepared from Hexamethylene diisocyanate(HDI), 1,4-BD/AA ester polyol and glycidyl azide polymer(GAP-2400) as an energetic material by the addition polymerization. The PU-TPE and E-PU-TPE were characterized by FT-IR and GPC. Viscometer, DSC and UTM were used to investigate the viscose behavior with a various solvent, thermal properties and mechanical properties of PU-TPE and E-PU-TPE, which are of potential interest for the development of high performance binder of energetic solid propellants. It was found that $M_w$ of PU-TPE and E-PU-TPEs are over 100,000 and decreased with increase of GAP-2400 contents. $T_m$ and ${\Delta}H$ as thermal properties decreased and also tensile strength and elongation at break as mechanical properties decreased with increase of GAP-2400 contents.

Dispersion and electrical resistance (ER) properties of polyurethane (PU) type topcoat were evaluated using carbon nanotube (CNT) with different CNT weight fraction. CNT was dispersed in PU type topcoat using ultra sonication dispersion method. CNT/PU topcoat was coated on carbon fiber reinforced epoxy composite (CFRC) surface using gravity feed spraying method. Static contact angles of CFRC and CNT/PU topcoat were performed using 4 types of solvents to calculate the work of adhesion between CNT/PU topcoat and CFRC surface. Surface resistance of CNT added PU topcoat was measured to determine CNT dispersion. Adhesion property between CNT/PU topcoat and CFRC was determined via cross hatch cutting test based on ASTM D3359. The optimized condition of CNT weight fraction was found.

Objectives : We tried to uncover the anti-lipogenic effect and underlying mechanism of Laminaria japonica on an experimental cellular model of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Methods : Ethanol extract of Laminaria japonica (LJ) was prepared. Intracellular lipid content of palmitate-treated HepG2 cells was evaluated with or without LJ treatment. We measured the effects of LJ on liver X receptor ${\alpha}$ ($LXR{\alpha}$) and sterol regulatory element-binding transcription factor-1c (SREBP-1c) expression, transcription level of lipogenic genes, including acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), fatty acid synthase (FAS), stearoyl-CoA desaturase-1 (SCD-1), and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) activation in HepG2 cells. Results : LJ markedly attenuated palmitate-induced intracellular lipid accumulation in HepG2 cells. LJ suppressed $LXR{\alpha}$-dependent SREBP-1c activation, and SREBP-1c mediated induction of ACC, FAS, and SCD-1. Furthermore, LJ activated Nrf2, which plays an important cytoprotective role in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Conclusions : Our study suggests that LJ has the potential to alleviate hepatic lipid accumulation, and this effect was mediated by inhibiting the $LXR{\alpha}$-SREBP-1c pathway that leads to hepatic steatosis. In addition, the anti-lipogenic potential may, at least in part, be associated with activation of Nrf2.
This study compares and analyzes inorganic components of four different Pu-erh tea species consumed in Korea. The criteria for the inorganic components was based on the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) recommendations. Out of the 19 general items: potassium, manganese, silicon and fluorine were detected in amounts exceeding the maximum allowable concentration by 5~23, 57~91, 1.6~1.8 and 9~18 times respectively. Out of the 15 potentially harmful elements: aluminum and nickel were exceeded the Maximum allowable concentration by 9~14 times and 0.8~1.2 times respectively. To reduce the concentration of inorganic elements in excess of the maximum allowable concentration, the extraction time of tea should be less than 1 minute in addition to limiting the amount. The amount of Pu-erh tea for extraction was about 0.1 g manganese, about 0.3 g potassium, about 0.5 g fluoride and about 2 g silicon. Therefore, the maximum amount of tea for extraction should be 0.1 g in regards to the safety of Pu-erh tea. Based on the recommended maximum daily intake of inorganic ingredients by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, it is desirable that the number of extractions be less than three.
